- Comptine d'un Autre été (Rhyme from another summer) is from the OST of the film Amélie released in 2001. The film itself is set in Paris, France and focuses on a young girls' journey of discovery. The piece was originally written for piano but here it is transcribed for guitar. The entire soundtrack was composed by Yann Tiersen except for 3 tracks written by others.
The piece itself is actually fairly simple and is broken down into 4 distinct yet related sections. The key to playing this piece well is to give emphasis to the melodic notes and keep the bass notes in a purely supportive role.
I suggest learning the right-hand patterns for each section first and then shifting focus across to the left-hand chord shapes.

Edit: I learned the whole thing! I find the trickiest bit to be the chords - if I don't press the barres down enough there's this weird twangy sound so I'm still learning how to improve that. Also, acoustic guitars *hurt* (metal strings) but totally worth the sound once I got the sections down-pat. Would recommend softer guitar strings (classical or electric) if just starting out or don't have callouses yet. Cheers & thanks again Joshua for this arrangement!

There's a bunch of little tricks like that which can really help your guitar playing. Sometimes we get stuck playing things in a certain way (to our detriment) and we fail to look at things from another perspective. I'm launching a beginners guitar course in April which covers so many of these little tricks n tips.

Thankyou for this tutorial. I first heard this song while watching a short cartoon that used this for the soundtrack. I loved it and couldn't stop listening to it. I had no idea who the composer was but finally tracked it down. So I found this and your tutorial which is like private lesson instead of just tablature. I decided today that I want to learn playing guitar. I definitly want to learn this song as it is a song that reminds me of my grandparents that passed away 2 years ago. @@Lena-sf8pt Hi! After all this time, i'm able to play it quite continously from start to end. There is a moment (00:38) where i get stuck almost everytime but i noticed that, if i exercise 2-3 times a week, it starts to disappear. So, like everything else, it's all about practice!
