    I've been into it for a long time since late 90's and I ran into a great book with alot of knowledge and information in it, I wasn't gonna get it but it got me lol... Anything you want to know is in this book. Its called how to become a witch The path of nature, spirit, & magic by Amber K & Azrael Arynn k. Yes and it does have alot of history in it.

    I like the video's thumbnail. "Books for absolute beginners that don't suck."
    Do you have a different book list for beginners that do suck? And what criteria do you have for beginners to say whether they suck or not?
    Just kidding. Actually, I've read most of the books on your list. It is a good selection.

    Thanks! Sometimes I ask myself if Wicca evolved to be children’s books... you know? Those hardcover books you’re talking about...Just full of beautiful images and nothing of content. Don’t get me wrong, I do love beautiful images, but I believe that when the book is good, the images contained in it serves to illustrate and not to support it, as it happens with several books of witchcraft or wicca that have been written in the last few years. I have been a student and a practitioner for more than 20 years now, and what I realize is that nowadays everything goes much more around sales than any other aspect. Not that it wasn’t so in the 90's, but at least the authors put more content in the works. Today witch related books are beautiful than anything else, which reminds me of my childhood books ... and I still do not understand why there are no more in-depth books, why the market keeps turning around books and series for beginners ... Anyhow, thanks for the tips.

    Love that you recommended Wicca for Beginners. That’s actually my favorite beginner book. In my opinion, Crowley is great for the the analytical minded and actually made me give Wicca a second chance after Cunningham left a bad taste in my mouth (although he’s now one of my favorites). I’m not super intellectual, but I was very deep in atheistic beliefs but the idea of Wicca or something like it kept subconsciously gnawing at me so Vivianne Crowley was a great entry way if that makes any since. I recommend her to skeptical people who are on the fence about delving into Wicca and the metaphysical.
    Nice list!

    I picked up the Thea Sabin book after watching this & after years of rejecting Wicca for one reason or another I am finding that it is speaking to me in a way I didn't know I needed. I, like so many others, have tried time and again to come at witchcraft from literally every other possible angle and I wish I hadn't been so influenced by certain people in the community and stubborn in my refusal of Wicca. Or maybe this is exactly how I was meant to find it. It makes me wonder if we will see a resurgence of Wicca. I can't be the only one avoiding it only to find it was exactly what I needed.

    I've got a box of books from a car boot sale, just had a look and found the first book by Thea Sabin. I'm eclectic but I read everything. I also found:
    'A Teaching Handbook for Wiccans & Pagans: Practical Guidance for Sharing Your Path' by Sabin
    Wicca Made Easy (2018) by Phyllis Curott
    The Love Spell: An Erotic Memoir of Spiritual Awakening (2005) by Phyllis Curott
    Elements Ritual. Air, Fire, Water & Earth in the Wiccan Circle by Deborah Lipp
    Do you have an opinion on any of these?

    i studied also in the libraries because when i was in school we never had computers to use and instead i went to the library to read and read books of history and religion. i love your videos . also i dont call myself pagan or Wicca i call myself a witch

    I bought two white magick books in the nineties in French but it was just rituals with a big consumerist slant. You had to have that much crystals, that much plants that you harvested under a full moon, exotic plants, colored candles. Nothing about intentions. Nothing about incorporating your creativity, your artistic input, your crochet into your practice. Now, that I'm rediscovering witchcraft through youtubers, I discover that intentions without any instruments is way more efficient than accessories without intention. Plus, I had archeology and religious history class at Uni. So, sometimes people who claim that a practice is ancient when I'm pretty sure it makes no sense to claim that with the archeologic evidences we have for exemple for the Celts, it makes me lightly chuckle. I think I seek books with intellectual honesty. If they invent a ritual it is fine but no need to say we owe it to Thot.

    Interesting list of contemporary resources. I’ve found ‘Folk Witchcraft: a Guide to Lore, Land, and the Familiar Spirit for the Solitary Practitioner’ by Roger J Horne, a slim book, intelligently written. Admittedly it does follow a darker path, but the text and bibliography cite solid, historical source material.

      The earth, the sun, the ocean, and fire have power. You have power. Those who do not wish to summon gods or spirits may summon the power of the elements to cast spells and do divinations. Don't be discouraged, but know this, our religion was around way before the abrahamic religions. Your heart and spirit are free.

      I don’t curate lists of books to avoid! Your best bet for history will be academic books written by historians of that specific region. Barring that, books that cite those historians! Few popular authors are themselves historians, so I’d suggest checking that what you read has citations to credentialed scholars.

      @@drawingKenaz I am actually curious about your opinion on some of the content of the book. Particularly chapter 2 "the roots of wicca" where Crowley states that Paleolithic people are speculated (although she implies this more as a fact than theory) to have worshiped a single god and goddess, and that pantheons came in the later age of agriculture. I would love to see a video on it. This seems to be a theory I've come across a lot in my research of wicca.

      Rosalyn None of them! Read as much as you can! The more you read, the more you’ll see patterns and get a sense of what is true and meaningful. Always use your common sense, keep a skeptical mind, and have fun!

    This video got me when you mentioned the bad history in most of these 101 wicca books hahaha. Man, seriously, Scott Cunningham doesnt even mention from where the heek he get his information. One of his books he said most witches prefer orange and taby cats...I was like what? Thanks for the fantastic vid!

    Do you also know books, that cover ONLY Witchcraft without Wiccan beliefs in it?

    • @drawingKenaz
      @drawingKenaz  3 роки тому

      There are other videos on my channel that address this, but the truth is that even books that purport to be non-Wiccan usually include Wiccan structures, tools, and paradigms (Wicca emphasizes particular practices rather than beliefs, and these have become common-the use of a quartered circle and four elements, specific ceremonially-derived tools, a gendered pair of deities, etc). It’s pretty well intertwined, though increasingly people can’t recognize it.

    • @drawingKenaz
      @drawingKenaz  5 років тому +1

      LunAlis 610 Well, now that you mention it, this process for sure requires newcomers to do some legwork, use their brains, and experiment. Plenty of beginners expect things to just be handed to them. So yeah! The beginner can’t suck either!

      @@drawingKenaz Yes, you definitely have a point! I've just started this journey and I'm still trying to decide which way to go with witchcraft. I just cant bring myself to believe whatever some youtuber says if they don't have any books to back them up.

    Yeah a lot of beginner books are written like they are meant to be read by a 7th grader and not like a deep smart nonconformist 7th grader who is into philosophy and poetry, but like a 7th grader who's main interests are shopping and lipstick...
