This is all great! One thing I would add for someone looking to join a coven is to also consider their own long term contribution to the group. It's easy to approach joining with a mindset of "what do I want to get out of a coven," but if we're talking teaching covens, these are people who will dedicate unpaid time and effort to your education and development, so it's important to view it as a mutual relationship rather than just a transactional one. A large part of this is just showing up on time to things, actually doing your assignments and so on - simply respecting everyone's time. Just something to keep in mind! :)
My husband and I belonged to a coven in FL for about 7 years. It was a very interesting experience and yes the coven leaders spend a ton of personal time and money to running their covens. It's very normal to help provide food for feast, ritual supplies and other items needed for gatherings. If you are going to belong to a group you should be willing to put in your time, energy and when needed, money. Thorn has made great points on distinguishing from the different types of groups there are but don't put up with being mistreated. That is never ok.
I remember part of my training in Blue Star, which may have been specific to my teacher, was learning about the Advanced Bonewits' Cult Danger Evaluation Frame (ABCDEF). I think it's a great tool to help possibly locate red flags that someone may not initially identify as red flags. And I just like Bonewits too I guess lol
Wonderful video! I love how you get into the details. When I was looking for a local group, I started at the local Pagan shop. They did regular classes on different things, but they also had a group based out of there, called Crossroads Tradition. I had a weird feeling about it, did 2 Tarot and 2 Rune castings, and they all said the same thing, Bad, Danger, Run! I heard from other people later that were in the group that the leader was manipulative and toxic. I did find a BTW group, did a year and a half study and was initiated. It was great, until my car died and I had to leave just a year after initiation. It was an awesome experience, and I learned a lot. Sometimes, books just don't compare to experience.
Thanks for this. I've been looking for a group to learn, grow and socialize with in my aria. Something like I use to belong to years ago that I met through "The Witch's Voice" before they shut down. From there I found a Yahoo group , when "Yahoo groups" use to be a thing. The best group of women I ever met. We got together once a month. We were all diverse in our beliefs. That sometimes may cause friction between people during discussions but always with respect. For us it worked. I met my lifelong spiritual sister this way. She and I now live hundreds of miles away, but the bond between us is still strong. Looks likes I might have to double down my efforts to seek online for groups. I alway thought that a coven was out of my league, but maybe not so much now.
Honestly that last point about making sure you like people is so key. I've encountered prominent local community members who just flat out told bigoted jokes on a first meeting, and then been like "really?? is THIS what I have to put up with if I want to train as a wiccan in this city???" I'd rather just keep doing solo work till I can find the *right* people than put up with that for however many years of my life I need to dedicate to initiatory training tbh 😵👍👍
is there a wiccan or pagan temple that has an image/s of pagan god and goddesses just like those pagan religions thousand year ago. in the Philippines we only have correlian wiccan. but I hope someday I want to part/member of gardnerian👍😉🔺
Maybe! Probably the new year too-lots of people want to try new things and set new goals. I’d forgotten that Deborah’s book just dropped, and I’ll be curious to see if that interest grows!

I recently got diagnosed with BPD and I know you’re saying that they’re coven that will take mentally ill people if they’re on medication but in my case there is no medication should I follow my gut feeling that I love my future family so much that I just stop to not put them in danger because of my reckless, impulsive and embarrassing behavior because of my disorder😅 sorry if this it too much 🫥

Dude, your eyes, hair, and sweater all match! Totally superficial but totally kick-ass lol. Thanks for the words, as always.

This was a great video - Thanks Thorn!
Thank you! 💙
Very informative. Had a few experiences in coven life in 20-plus years in the Craft (both good and bad)
Covens are a serious matter
Very interesting and informative 👍 hail to the journey of understanding and knowledge and thank you for sharing.

All very good advice.
I wonder if the uptick in coven searches has something to do with Deborah Blake's new book that came out this week?
Maybe! Probably the new year too-lots of people want to try new things and set new goals. I’d forgotten that Deborah’s book just dropped, and I’ll be curious to see if that interest grows!
Hi Thorn be blessed Always, Thorn do you have a podcast? If you have it you can say me where to find it?
I don’t! But thank you for the interest! I’ve appeared on a few, but it’s not a medium I’ve ever explored on my own! 💙
@@drawingKenaz thanks for the answer, if you have one (it will be amazing if you do it) please let us know.
