- Fully automatic shifting and start mode is available with Nexus Inter-5E dynamic internal gear hub, designed specifically for the unique demands of e-bike riding. Automatic shifting provides a smooth and stress-free riding experience by ensuring you are always in the right gear.
With automatic shifting your bike will change gear when you need it to; going up hills or down them, speeding up on the open road or slowing down in traffic. Start mode automatically down-shifts when you come to a stop so you are ready to pedal away with ease and control. With gear shifting done for you city cycling is even more fun and easy!

As a person who has never driven a car with an automatic transmission, I want one so bad, manual is great, no problem with it, but it would be even better if I don't have to shift. Manual is for the track, drifting and overall for fun, but for driving in town, yeah no... it's not annoying, but it's not chill either.
For a bike, I don't understand what's the problem with manual, it makes no meaningful difference really.

Most people do not know that planetary systems even exists. Well at least Shimano managers thought that.
My Bike does this since 2014. It has an automatic Transmission, based on centrifugal force in the hub.
For E-Bikers this is a good idea, because they always are in to high gears. They just can't shift properly.

On the contrary, these internal gearboxes are incredibly reliable and last forever. The main thing that wears out a standard transmission is all the sand that sticks to it. Not a problem with a sealed system.
And how hard is it to change a gear these days? It's not like a car where you need to co-ordinate a clutch. I've never felt 'stressed' changing gears on a bicycle, in fact, it's probably one of the least stress-inducing things that can happen.

For many users which just want to get from A to B this is okay. IMHO if it gets more people on a bike I like it but it's nothing for me.
I have this on a recumbent trike along with the e6100 Steps motor and it is ok for urban stop and go riding, but not so great on the road. Hard to keep a constant cadence when there is 28% gear steps. Also, shifting is not so refined. 1st to 2nd is usually smooth, but the other 3 don't always seem to engage fully and you hear and feel a very loud "snap" occur seconds after shifting.
It does have total manual mode or you can always initiate an up or down shift similar to what you can do in your car using the paddles. When doing this in auto mode, it does try to learn your style of riding and does adjust the auto shift points. One thing that bugs me though is how slow it is to complete the shift after pushing the button, a full 2 seconds. I have tried to stop pedaling on these shifts but doesn't help.
My last gripe will be the indecisiveness in shifts that randomly occur when your speed slows down and getting near a shift point. It doesn't actually shift, but it feels and sounds like it shifts down and then back up. Annoying.

I never wash my bike or clean chain. Only change chain once in a year. I use Eni motorbike lube in spray for chain, once in a month or two. Ride it everyday in any weather conditions. Transfer my kid to kinder garden, goods from shops, some stuff for my job, you name it. Using additional cart I move furniture and so one. One year my bike took a lot of time outside in rain or snow, does not matter. And planetary hub had no dirt or water after two years of usage. And I also had never a problem which was needed to be fixed right away, some minor things happened once in a while, but it does not affect riding process.
Recently I have added outside motor 350w on forward luggage place, and also SA 3 speed planetary gear on forward wheel, which I use to climb hills or to accelerate, or when I transfer some heavy load. Added one more chain, some more weight.
Before that I used Inter 3 hub, it is not so much dirt resistant, but it lasted for 3 years, and still was usable, with minor defects, I serviced it every half a year.
SA hubs also not very complicated, so I can service them myself as Inter 3 hub.
I would not be able to do such bike on classic gearing. It would die quickly in such conditions, and I would had to service it very often, which I have no time for.
This is gonna be fun to ride
Looks like a bunch of potential fail points to have to repair
steady so it's getting tighter
"The Shimano STEPS system used a leaning function". Hilarious.
Fat Joe approved
The problem with these are that there aren’t mechanics in the area smart enough for it when things go wrong! I suggest shimano does something about this maybe have certified shops or something so we are more at ease when something breaks
Release manuals and such to the public on how to service stuff you own
great for e-bikes, NOT E-MTB's! too heavy, will not stand up to punishing mountain terrain. Transmission should be incorporated in or directly behind the motor to save and centralize weight.
What do you mean? Is there something similar to your thing?
It being too heavy has absolutely nothing to do with it. A e mountain bike already weighs 45 pounds. An extra like 200 grams ain’t gonna kill ya. But yes Shimano doesn’t recommend it for MTB use, it’s more for commuters.
Rohloff....
Yes for Commuter style riding this is a great product, will last for years...E-MTBs will need something different ..

But this can't beat the sensation of manual shifting😌
Stress free shifting???? For who???? I've never felt shifting that stressful. If you do, find another pastime.
Pastime? Bicycles are for getting from A to B. This is for mobility, not for playing.
@@difflocktwo Hahahaha, what nonsense. Did you really write that? I can see you have commented similarly on other posts. Were it not for the human tendency to play, cycles along with everything else humans have invented would not exist. Stop being so serious and pull your head out of your bottom. Only someone fully in the grip of modernity could write such crap.
@@daveparsons6956 bro shut up, it‘s mainly for efficency and i also think maybe belt drive is really great on this, bc belt drive bikes always need an internal system and here you have an automatic one
@@iwillwatchyourbacknooneels7850 Hohoho..... Internal hub gears are the least efficient, it'a nothing to do with efficiency, it's a marketing led decision. Don't get me wrong, it's an interesting piece of technology but another example of an over-complex answer to a non-existent problem. Not sure what you are trying to say regards the second point, it seems you're saying belt drives are great because they need an internal hub geared system. I don't follow that reasoning at all, because there isn't any to follow bro.....
@@daveparsons6956 bruh u dumb i said that in general autimatic transmissions are there for efficiency and ease to drive like in cars, cars with automatic transmissions have better miles per gallon and waste in general less energy, so this system for an electric bike would certantly increase range and for belt drive i didnt mean that they are great because they use internal gear hub i said this is a great solution for a problem that many belt drive bikes have… so dont come here with ur bitchy attitude
Does not need a learning function. Just set the the amount of energy you feel comfortable expending on the pedals, and the automatic shifter will give you the best speed. So if 50 watts is my energy level, it will choose the gear that keeps my output to 50 watts.
That's not how humans produce power..
So the Max speed is 20km/hr? That's a slow running Speed! That's why I can't live in Japan anymore, you are controlled at every corner of your life. Japan is the most anticlimatic place of stagnance. They are afraid of everything, act in fear and live in perpetual state of ignorance and stigmas for the general public and leadership of this country. I've lived here for nearly 20 years and everytime I go back to Canada, I realize this. It's not that you can't go further, it makes rules to punish anyone who they deem an economic threat. It allows them to punish anyone they don't like or who brings a competitive edge and have the Mono mind society tear you down for being reasonable and progressive.
it's 25 kph in Europe too
@@pizza.doctor The difference is, here you will go to jail, in a short 1.8m tall jail cell for 3 months before being deported if you catch the wrong cop, that would never happen to Japanese National. It's not the average joe who makes trouble for you, it's the big corperate companies and thier police staff, make it hard for people who bring competition in to the country by hiring prosecutor of a court to collect only dambing evidence on you, never question you, watch your every move until they have so much dirt on you and then raid your house, put you in ropes and chains (NO JOKE) the make you sweat in interigation for 1-3 days non stop before you are even allowed to have a shower which has to be monitored and cavity searched before entering the steel basin on cracked concrete, you also have to share an electric razor with all the inmates in your floor if you wanna shave.
