This guy is right on the money...i have been struggling with ocd from about 4 years old
Just thought i was going nuts until i admitted that i have it instead of trying to self sooth with 1000 routines, behaviours and habbits

Trying to expose myself so i can be ok with ambiguity... So easy to self sooth... Becomes a bad habit quick

Do you think explore the root fear of the OCD patient will help cure their OCD completely? I know what are my fears(due to the environment, my personality and life trauma), my OCD throughts are revolving them.

I've been suffering with OCD for years (though I spent most of that time undiagnosed), and I used to spend much of that time ruminating on what might have caused my anxiety, if I can pinpoint this one specific point in time and say definitively that "Yep, this is it. This was where my downward spiral began."
I've since learned from one of my self-help books that trying to figure out the root cause of the problem doesn't help and generally just fuels the OCD cycle. Determining a cause is keeping us dependent on having "absolute certainty," but overcoming OCD requires us to let go of that need.
Based on everything I've read and watched on OCD, treatment is pretty much exactly the same--exoposure and response prevention, cognitive behavioral therapy, and maybe medication if your symptoms hinder you from doing the exposures. So, even if you were 100% sure about the source of your OCD, I don't think it would make a difference as far as treatment goes. OCD often has a biological component anyways that may or may not even have to do with past experiences or conditioning.
So yeah, if I were you I don't think I would get too hung up on figuring out where your OCD comes from, because that may be compulsive rumination in and of itself.
I hope this is helpful, God bless you in your OCD recovery. :)

@@victoriaye4724 That's good to hear! I've been suffering from OCD since 2015, and treatment has been incredibly helpful to me since I started back in December. I'm still far from where I want to be and I have lots of setbacks, but I think I'm progressing. I hope CBT will be helpful for you as well! I know all too well how miserable it can be to manage OCD, so I will be praying for you in your recovery journey. God bless!

The root fear is uncertainty. If you accept the thing your OCD is attached to, it literally will vanish.

Have you talked about obsessively thinking about a guy or girl you have a crush on? It’s frustrating. I feel like it’s unhealthy but it’s like my brain can’t stop. I’m tired of it, I know it’s not healthy and I try to fight it (maybe that’s why I keep thinking more?) but it just keeps running in my brain.

Mate, can the theme of one's ocd or obsession be anything? I mean there are the commonly known themes, but what about something arbitrary like lions - Being obsessed with lions to the point you keep searching about them.

Recently I had to make the decision if I wanted a kitten, I decided yes, while still unsure. That night I stayed up for 5 hours to get every information I felt I needed and decided not to do it. Getting a kitten is a 20 year long commitment, should I not have thought about this so much?? And the same for other important decisions, I think about for a very long time, but if it’s something big, like do I want this person in my life or not, like with new friends or a possible partner, shouldn’t you??

      Same here!!
In my opinion its a problem of decision making. Thinking about as many outcomes(mostly negative) possible to take precautionary measures before time.
But we make our decisions on the basis of priorities in that present time and if our priorites that favour a specific decision are inturrepted by any "what ifs" then this is the OCD
      Small experience of mine...

Hey, right now, im going through a weird time. I think and fear of amnesia and forgetting about loved ones. Im 13 years old, is it possible for it to be something serious? I have it for at least 1 month now. It changes but mostly my fears are amnesia and forgetting-related. I think it could be caused by the lock down, where everyone has been closed off any social contacts other than yourself and close family. How can I have more positive thoughts?

Have you been diagnosed with Tourettes? My son was diagnosed with mild Tourettes when he was 8. He was also having a mild vocal tic where he was making a sound. When he hit puberty, his tics completely went away. He is now 21, and has full blown OCD with intrusive thoughts. High dose Prozac and exposure therapy has been life changing for him. Tourettes almost always has OCD with it, and often ADHD as well (my son also has ADHD). My son refers to his OCD as “brain tics”.

    Hi there!
    I have question
You always talk about the phrase "Maybe Maybe not" but for some doubting thoughts that i experience i cant say to my brain "maybe" "maybe not"cz these things seem sooo important to me that the half phrase "Maybe Not" still seems so dangerous to me wether its about my mother father siblings relationships.
So i dont usually use this phrase instead i say to myself "Stop" no 2nd thought
Can u plz tell me if this can also be used as an alternative phrase. Is it safe to use? cz the thoughts really get better with that
    Please respond...

Legally my course is designed as an educational course instead of a treatment course. I cannot make any claims or promises. I know many have taken the course and have given me feedback that they are very confident with what to do with your OCD as far as treatment goes.
