    Beauden and his brothers actually lived in Ireland for a year when he was 8 believe it or not. They were playing for GAA teams and all the rest of it. Admittedly we were only crawling off the floor from being useless at rugby then. Wouldn’t mind seeing him at Leinster or even one of the other Irish provinces for a stint. Top quality player.

  • @ierikopj
    @ierikopj Рік тому

    We don't have the money to pay our NPC and Super rugby players. NZRU needs to find the money to keep our top players in NZ. Loyalty as an incentive is not going to last in keeping All Blacks in NZ. I feel for our game because money is everything and we don't have a lot. This is why many people don't go to club games, NPC and Super because our top players are playing overseas which makes our local games unattractive. We should look at NRL and develop something similar with rugby. And avoid what is happening with the English national soccer team suffering from having far too many foreigners playing their competition.

    NZ rugby unfortunately have forgotten that rugby is international game & since the game has gone professional the like of French Japan & another nations that's on the move very quietly & is opening up is the United States & New Zealand eg needs to embrace that the young players are now going overseas to where they get payed & play rugby as they said in previous episodes there is only a limited number they can retain on the books and so NZRU with the future of young player are not going to hang around to wear the AB Jersey the opportunities is that they can play for the required time to be eligible to become a citizen of that country & play & represent that country we seeing this in Ireland Japan that NZ born players are representing there adopted country to play rugby & may never get the opportunity to play in the AB Jersey times are moving very fast it the way of the future.

Attract global talent to our league instead of other comps attracting all of our players. Bring back tribalism and real rugby rivalries back to Nz rugby, get rugby back playing in the smaller cities where they actually appreciate it. Rugby is dead in NZ if they don’t do this, and we’ll just end up like Brazil in football, just a breeding ground for talent for other countrys to come and profit off.

      SA had been threatening to leave Super Rugby long before Covid put the competition on hold which was when SA decided to leave and now they're playing the victim. They've also made no secret of wanting to join the 6 Nations. In my opinion if the 6 Nations want to add another team it should be Georgia if they want to grow the game in Europe. Rugby player numbers and spectators have been in decline for the past few decades in NZ. Rugby union is also competing with rugby league, basketball, MMA and other sports. More school kids play basketball than rugby union and MMA is the fastest growing sport.

    • @Geezweez788
      @Geezweez788 Рік тому

      @@wellingtonian2009 whaaat, kids there are mad, why would one choose basket ball over rugby. What is the reason for the decline? I see rugby league is big over there, was shocked to see how packed the stadiums at rugby league games are. There's no playing the victim here, New Zealand was too careless with superugby during covid, did they forget how much they enjoy Playing South African teams, even new zealand coaches were complaining.

    • @wellingtonian2009
      @wellingtonian2009 Рік тому

      @@Geezweez788 the demographics in NZ have changed dramatically. NZ has a large immigrant population from non rugby playing nations. Also many of our young basketball players have been offered scholarships in the US and some are playing in the NBA. Even a lot of NZers are fed up with all the rule changes and stop starts in rugby union. Rugby league is faster and less stoppages.
      South Africa had been threatening to leave Super Rugby every time they couldn't get their way. The conference system for example insured weaker SA teams made the playoffs regardless. One year the Lions were given a home semi and final despite having less points than all the NZ teams. Then SA demanded more SA teams and all that did was made SA teams even weaker because it diluted and spread their talent even thinner.

    A clue to the problem with "Super Rugby" is in the name. The whole thing is a corny, trashy "America but worse" franchise entertainment sh*tshow. Awarded Franchise synthetic leagues have never brought crowds outside the US, and in fact don't in the US either unless the teams/league predates it in some form, thus having ingrained local roots of some sort. The partial exception of the URC is entirely due to the success of the Irish teams, which they achieved by DIRECTLY converting their provincial teams into pro teams, without any coating of trash branding or catchment areas or whatever. The provincial union has a team, it competes, that's it.
    Granted, the geography in Ireland made it easy - to create similarly viable union set ups you might have to merge some unions along the lines of defunct provinces or whatever, but you have to actually do it - not parcel out "catchment areas". Basically, a professionalized NPC, with merged unions if you must.
    The wrong headed approach taken in Super Rugby of "entertainment business first, sporting competition second" is highlighted by the worthless effort to create "more scoring". People don't turn up to watch lots of scoring, they turn up to watch something they care about, a team which represents them. Meaningful, intense competition is what puts bums on seats.
    The very first thing that needs to happen is stop calling the teams by their crappy nicknames. Even in the states they don't use the nickname on the in-match scoreboard. Its Wellington vs Canterbury, not Crusaders vs The Hurricanes. Super Rugby sucks ass in every conceivable way, and needs to be converted from a failed entertainment business into a healthy sporting competition.

      @@tafatapaleao4588 I get that but there is never an opportunity missed by a SH commentator or You Tuber or journalists to raise the number of foreign born players in NH teams, especially when the SH team are playing them and especially when they lose to that NZ team. I also have a bee in my bonnet about Goldie when it comes to playing Ireland. Nov 2021 we beat NZ in Dublin and his response was “but we all know that when then come down here in the summer we beat the pants off them”. 1st game in the June Series, NZ win and he’s proud as punch. Nothing wrong with the NZ team then. Perfect working order. 2nd game, Ireland win, he says “well it’s not 15 on 15”
      So we didn’t really win. It took the 3rd game to give proper credit and even then it was largely evidence that NZ were shite at the moment (conveniently forgetting who great he thought they were just 2 games before), rather than that Ireland were world beaters. 6 Nations 2023. Goldie - France are the best team by far. Ireland win a grand slam in a nature which hasn’t been seen by another team since at least Englands 2003 win. All matches bar 1 had a 6 try bonus point and we could have had that last one twice, so near perfect score. Least amount of tries conceded and 20 tries scores. 2nd highest after France at 21 (thanks to that shocking England game). And after we win? No time in The a Breakdown to discuss it, save for Goldie to say that regardless France are the best. A little respect would go a long way towards likening someone or respecting his views. Especially when the respect you seek has been well earned time and time again.

      You do realise that New Zealand is part of Polynesia right ie its not in Europe. I am over 50 and it has always been since childhood that Polynesian players aim to play for the All Blacks as Maori are Polynesian. It has always been this way.
      We did not draw territorial lines in our sand like England, Ireland, Wales etc and have long history of waging war and deceit so we therefore benefit from not having such a negative history which would otherwise prevent future generations to focus on representing one team.
      So the backward view held by Europeans esp the British and Irish view that NZ poaches players (we all know you’re talking about Polynesians located within the pacific islands) is not a valid point as you don’t understand the Polynesian cultural context.
