  • We've done it again! Another super successful trip to Japan for Japanese fabric shopping! This time, I was there with Caroline of Ancient Arts Yarn, so it was a combo fabric shopping and tourism trip! This video is from our shopping trip to Nippori Tomato in Tokyo; the next one will be our shopping trip in Kyoto, and then I will do a compilation of our tourism portions.
    I will also be doing an "in-person" recap of the fabrics of showing the fabrics to everyone on video instead of just this "as it happened" footage!
    In other exciting news, I have started a "pick your own" bag system where you can select your exterior fabric, and with some have even more customization options (the Luxe Tote Bag having the most options). Or, choose your exterior fabric and let me do the rest. You can see those options here: ateliernekozuk...
    I also restocked the Dede House charms and brooches while we were in Kyoto, which you can view here: ateliernekozuk...
    If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to comment below! And if you liked this video, please like, subscribe, and share with someone you think would also like it!

    This is my first time watching your video. It amazes me that you can bring so much fabric back home. Looking forward to your haul. Just like to ask do you get tax free buying fabric in Tomato?

      Welcome! The next haul video will probably be awhile yet, but I’m also excited to do another!
      I haven’t seen tax free for Tomato, but I do my think I qualify because I’m using the fabric for commercial purposes!
      Nomura Tailor in Kyoto does have tax free, though, if you’re in that area!

      Glad it helped!! Tomato is awesome! There’s a ton of other shops on that street, so my best suggestion is that you plan at least half a day, maybe a full day, to explore it all!

      @@AtelierNekozuki not planning to do much shopping. That's why this is so useful. I now can go straight and pick up some stuff. Won't need to spend too much time exploring.
      I am from India. So plenty of options in fabrics. Plan is to get something different.

      @@DebiSenGupta ooooh, fair! Yeah, if you only want to take a short amount of time, just go to Tomato in Tokyo. First and fourth floors are the cottons, USA cotton on the 5th floor. If you’re in Kyoto, Nomura Tailor will be your best option. Yuzuwaya is a chain in Japan and they also general have a smaller, but robust, fabric selection! There’s one in the basement under Yodobashi at Kyoto Station, though you can find them across Japan!

      @@AtelierNekozuki that's a good suggestion, if I am short of time in Tokyo, then maybe I can try in Kyoto

    This shop looks great! Do you know if they had jersey/cotton lycra there or was it all woven fabrics?

    • @AtelierNekozuki
      @AtelierNekozuki  Рік тому

      Hey! Sorry for the delay in my response! I believe they do on either the 2nd or 3rd floor, which is why I only really shop the 1st & 4th floors! If Tomato doesn’t, there should be another store with those fabrics in stock in Nippori Fabric Town!

    Do they sell remnants/less then 1 meter pieces? That’s what I plan on getting most of since I make small things and it stretches my budget. Leave in 8 days!! Thanks! 💖

    • @AtelierNekozuki
      @AtelierNekozuki  Рік тому

      I don’t know if Tomato has a ton of remnants, but they will do less than one metre. I believe the shortest cut is a half metre, and then 10cm increments from there! If you’re in Kyoto, both Nomura Tailor and Nomura Tailor House have fat quarters and smaller pieces, OR Yuzuwaya (a chain of craft stores across Japan) always has smaller cuts. In Tokyo, explore Nippori textile town (where Tomato is). Across the road there was a shop with smaller cuts. I just cannot remember the name of it right now.

    Is it cheaper there for fabric? On average, how much does the fabric cost?

    • @AtelierNekozuki
      @AtelierNekozuki  Рік тому

      I know I already answered this on stream, but I figured I should come back and respond! With all my travel costs calculated in, the cost of the fabric works out to about the same as a good quilt cotton in Canada, which is 40% less than me purchase through a middle man on Etsy/other shop. Since I can’t use the quantities needed for wholesale orders, this is the most money efficient way to do it right now! (Considering other factors like not being able to order more than a metre of fabrics directly from Japan, etc.)

    Could you in future point out the price on a few bolts so we can know how to read the prices

    • @AtelierNekozuki
      @AtelierNekozuki  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for the comment! I actually purposely don’t talk about the prices in the videos, since I go to Japan to keep my fabric costs competitive vs purchasing them and importing them from a supplier. If you are travelling there and would like to know how to figure out pricing, I’m happy to have a chat in Instagram DMs about how you can figure it out! ❤️
