I have to agree with the very last one about friends, and relate to you when you say you were a shy kid. I was too, started working at Best Buy seven months ago and was afraid to use the radio / walkie talkie at the start of it, but eventually it became routine. I used to never want a job because I wanted to avoid social interaction, and when I did get a job it would be one in a warehouse or overnight, but hated that no one wanted to talk. I wanted to talk, but was afraid to talk. I am happy where I am now for sure and have made so many great friends working here.
Shopping addiction is your problem, not Best Buy’s.

Best Buy is great company, like other companies. their values that are been implied on their employees year by year are making the company grow. like any other employer you might work for in the future they will set expectations like best does it with their employees, no right or wrong answer and everyone is free to say whatever they think.

As a ex-mobile associate Best Buy employee I totally agree with everything he says. They always says “customer first” but reality they’re looking more at sales and revenue than anything else, not to mention there’s too many rules that can make anyone easily fired. Too much work, too much expectation, too much rules but don’t get me wrong I loved my work and I love shopping even without (now) the employee discount but there’s always something better

I've worked as an inventory specialist at best buy for about 8-9 months now and honestly he's not wrong about most of the stuff in this video... one thing that I strongly agree with is the pay... inventory employees start around $10/hour but the position is very physically draining and during the holidays you can easily be there for 10+ hours (4pm - 2am for me personally) despite being scheduled until 10pm... there are definitely days where I do not feel like I'm being paid well enough for the hard work that we do but I don't regret working for best buy at all... the community and discounts are very good and hard to come by so overall if you're looking to work for best buy, definitely do some research before applying

My store coworkers and managers are pretty fucking awesome honestly. And the starting pay is well above most jobs around my area. Even my fiancé who has a Bachelor degree makes less than I do.

current PC sales associate, i hated the job the first week, but eventually i understood how it was to grind when there’s traffic, help customers understand which computer fits the best needs and wants they have, attach other accessories like GSP, TTS and show them the value :) been working there since october and i still love my job, best co workers, supervisors & managers, and the customers are fucking awesome too!

I work at best buy, I do really feel for the mobile people they get the worst treatment from customers.
Damn I didn’t know they expect their employees to make X amount of dollars. Those employees that I made two separate huge purchases... I must’ve blessed their day that day.

All Retail has a Sales Quota! Working at restaurant just demand you to be on the clock but it is very, very, very exhausting and stressful than retail. My regular hourly rate is $15/hour.

You’re so wrong. The Best Buy “Beast” is so hard to manage and dealing with 3 dealers (sprint, at&t, and Verizon) it is so hard to really get the system to work. If you haven’t worked at a Best Buy it’s hard to know how bad it is.

When you talked about having to be able to sell things that really bummed me out. (I mean I can do it, but if it's a high goal that's a regular day standard... oof) I've been super excited about the possibility of working for best buy after my first interview yesterday. I'm kind of shy though and I am unsure if I could actually push products until I made a certain amount of money per day. :(

I am 3 weeks in and everyone has been really supportive. Just today my numbers were not so hot and my peeps would direct customers to me or let me close a sale. Hopefully you have the same kind of support!

4:45 I rather have that than co-workers picking in you for doing a very a good job that your Restaurant managers like you for your hard work and not ever be on check at a restaurant. When I used to work at a restaurant I would get harassed by co-workers acting like they upper management. Retail sounds good but the pay is crap. Restaurant is a better recovery for easy money.

i wonder how large of a percentage of the company's revenue comes in from employees. Is it majority? They're standing around window shopping most of their shift. Even when they are working, their brains are constantly screaming "I want this, I want this, I want this," with every item they handle. Doesn't matter whether or not you have a shopping addiction - it's human nature. Some have greater willpower than others. Retail employees in the stores might be corporations' largest customers. I wonder if some might say that makes the underpayed workers suckers in the grand scope of things.
I would probably work there just so I can get games, consoles and phones before anybody else.

I personally don't recommend working for best buy. I worked in the warehouse so I was immune to having to get cards and memberships. Best buys only interest is getting customers to sign up for the best buy credit card and total tech membership. That's all they acre about. If you want to be pushed to get more and more regardless of how well you do then work their, If you want to get treated like a human and not a robot work else ware.
I just attended a hiring event Yesterday and got hired customer service seasonal.

You can never be disciplined for metrics regardless of the context. So you could miss every month but so long as you are showing some sign of improvement or willingness to learn and try new methods to interact with clients then you'll be more than good and prob get top scores in annual reviews.

There Customers service sucks they might fire the lady I was on phone with. I specifically told her I need to ship to different Adress What she do put my name on Both.
Figure out the politics, drive, work you put in, and your ethics, and only then will you see when it will be worth it. Don't and you will be shiit out of luck. Best buy will be around. Mark my words. You have one job, unless you're in operations. Be the best at what you do. And if you don't, then you suck. Period.
You make it sound like Amazon is far beating best buy which is not true. I always have loved to ask questions before purchasing anything and amazon just sucks at that even with the FAQs. Their share value has doubled the last 5 years
I can activate and set up a new phone in about 5-10 minutes. I set up all my family’s new electronics and I wish I got paid for it.

Good video, but if you are a SALES person you would expect to SELL items. That is why they have a revenue goal. They are not going to hire someone into a sales position if they don't plan on selling. In other words, here is an analogy. A restaurant hires a chef but the chef is too lazy or does not want to cook at all... Also saying that "everyone has a sales goal" is 100% wrong. Customer Service, Inventory, BOL, Geek Squad, and so many other non-sales departments do not have a revenue goal. That being said each store is different. The BB that I work at has amazing managers who actually listen rather than take advantage. Also don't forget that the $14 an hour can be waaaay higher if your store hits its revenue target each month. Especially in mobile (mobile department and appliances has one of the best bonus structures vs other departments).

it’s the cost plus 5% unless the item is on sale and is lower than the employee price with the original full price then the employees get the sale price with no additional discount

What tips can you give for someone looking to land a job at Best Buy? What qualities are they mostly looking for?
Hey there, thanks for the question. Best Buy is always looking for tech savvy people. people who love technology and all things geeky. People who smile and have warming personalities. At the end of the day they need their employees to bring in money, not just be nice. So show them your willing and able to bring the store money and sales, while having a smile.

Just like any company they need to make money at end of the day, you will have goals each day to reach or exceed. How much to attach/sale, and most good sups/managers will understand you have good days and bad days, same when it comes to months.
But honestly, ignore it cause that will just stress yourself out you have no control of who you going to work with and what kind of situation you are in, best thing to do just give 110% with each client you meet and you do better than anyone else or people who are "Number trackers". I did better than anyone else with treating any client that comes in as a family member asking me for honest opinion. Be yourself, be good respective person that wants to help the other person looking for perfect gift for themselves or loved one.
Best Buy is a Seller of Dreams, that people come to use their own hard earned money to make all of it worth it. Clients will come back and ask for you, they even will respect your opinion base on the last interaction they had with you, and might even go for bigger sale next time (happened many times, client didnt want to work with anyone else but me), i had clients bring me cookies and brownies that i shared with the co-workers.
Put it simply, at interview, you want to let them know that you want to promote the brand, and make clients for life time not one sale, to make them aware that this is place to buy all their electrical needs, and we are here to make their decisions easier, worries dispear, and more sure that they getting correct information and advice.
Your not commission expect if you work in Magnolia. Be honest, but dont talk yourself out of sale by accident. But honestly, you will learn alot, how to manage people, deal with people, and learn proper service
Company is great i worked myself from seasonal to now in field agent with geek squad. Company great and alot to offer. Highly advice on trying to get hired at best buy, probably one of best retail experiences you will have out of every other retail company out their. 5+ years now, and still loving it. especially the people i work with and some really cool clients i meet, who are even famous.
My work ethic was always, work hard and do your best, and put out numbers that they have nothing to complain or coach you about. I did base on being self motivated, and just focusing on being their for others and helping people out.

Activating phones is a tough job now? Sounds like you were getting paid properly. Also, being paid on commission isn't a new thing. If you can't sell then you can't sell and you need to look for another job, honestly.

FYI, Best Buy employees don't work on commission. They just get hourly pay. Retail employees for actual cell carriers DO get paid on commission.

Scarborough Town Center here in Canada....the amount of Arabs and (not to be racist here) brown people are OTT. I agree Best Buy should be boycotted, but not for the racial profiling (it's very much illegal in Canada for an applicant to be turned down due to religious and racial background). But anyways, they got the worst customer service EVER! You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than getting on a phone with one employee in 10 hours (obviously exaggerating), and it's rare to find an intellectual employee who actually knows their own workplace and where everything is.
Over 80% of the employees in my old store were either Arabic or Kurdish. This was in Tennessee... So I strongly disagree with your opinion.
I have nine months for best buy experience and a good amount I like it has help me build some skills I was lacking on I have a lot more confidence from voice . I have been able to as much I can with what are looking for . When is comes to headphones I show them from Sony Bose beats apple JBL and Sennheiser . So I'm doing 100 percent and half . And the worker and the manger are great people
But what are the bad . One when some try to return and item is way passed its return they demand to speak to a manger . Than you get people who wants to return a subscriptions card even we are not allow to do a return on it . And they go full Karen .
I had some who wanted to trade a MacBook air with a m1 chip it give me 370 . she wanted to be like 650 or something and than demand for a manger to give her more money When I come in to work at frontends I am the only one over there if wouldn't be bad . If wasn't for returns trade in store pickup curbside . And have to keep resetting the device more than once and this so far has happened to be close to 10 times in the last three months .
I really hate when we get PS5 drops in store is always the same group who buys PS5 and sell them for a 200 mark up and one guys to forced me to sell him a PS5 even I saw him buy one and ask for a manger to buy one for his friend . i even say is one per customer .
