    To be honest the only thing that makes me look at these devices is the shortwave receiving capabilities on a budget, so in my case I´d go for the XHDATA.

    Great compassions. You can’t go wrong with either radio. I will be uploading my review of the Supersonic SC-1080BT shortly. It may already be posted by the time you read this.

    Excellent Comparison. I purchased the Supersonic for its Bluetooth feature based on your original review about a month ago. It sounds much better then similarity sized radios. Great product and great review. Thanks for all of your work!

    I have both and the only point in favor of the xhdata is the better bass response from the small loudspeaker. Otherwise the supersonic is indeed a clear winner : very nice fm/am performance, pleasant sound and the fact that we can use an SD card or a USB key is a welcome addition. That, plus Bluetooth, makes for a perfect cheap "desert island" radio (if it had a solar panel ;)).

    A little side comment on the D-328...two things about it really go well together: the smooth feel of its glossy finish and the smooth feel of the tuning. To me the D-328 is something of a neat novelty radio that can be surprisingly useful reception-wise. I also have the 1080BT and like it very much - but am mystified by the exclusion of 31 and 19 meter SW bands, which you brought up. It's very good that you did mention this, it's an important consideration to SWLs.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  5 років тому +3

      Yes I completely agree. If you want a small, portable, dsp radio mainly for shortwave, the XHDATA is the one to go with. Those extra bands produce.

  • @halibut1249
    @halibut1249 4 роки тому +1

    Thanks for the comparison. The headphone jack is a problem with the Supersonic, prob a non-starter for me. Both radios seem kind of small for SW's, I'm surprised you didn't compare their sizes to your Crane pocket or deck of cards.

    No experiments! In this price category for me its both the Tecsun R-9012 and Tecsun DR-920c. Simply the best! ;)

    You did a great job with this video comparison. Enjoyed it. I purchased the Supersonic in red from Amazon today. Looking for a beater radio and audio quality on voice is the top priority followed by reception quality on all bands especially AM. With good speaker quality I love the fact that I can use it for podcasts from my phone or tablet. I am hoping that Supersonic makes a version that is a little more expensive and gives us a headphone jack and the 31 meter band. Lots of stations broadcast to the 31 meter band. About the only thing that may prompt me to send the radio back is the tipping over with AA batteries. That is my biggest concern. I am already thinking about mods. Perhaps lowering the center of gravity of the radio by melting or otherwise securing lead into the base. Hopefully someone will come up with a solution and share.

      You can also run this radio from the USB jack with no batteries installed. Something to think about if your near an outlet or have a power bank.

    todderbert, i kinda hate and love your videos. I already had Tivdio v115 which has a great sound, but the SW and MW performance is quite bad. After looking at your videos I said wtf, let's try another one. This time a Tivdio v115. I have received a beautiful music channel on SW during the night and I was hooked. The sound of TIvdio v111 nevertheless is so small and metallic. I ordered a tecsun r9012. Unfortunately was lost by Amazon. So I have used the money, added more and ordered an XHdata d808 and this Supersonic. I find it somehow appealing to be able to hear something from thousands of kilometers away without internet. :)

    Two decent- under 20 bucks receivers-. A dial light, it could be a nice option over MP3, BT and another toys, but is my humble and personal opinion. Thanks Pete!

    Could you explain how to use the analog tuner log thing? I've never understand how the numbers work so I have to tune around and find stations I recognize.

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  5 років тому +4

      It's a scale to help locate stations by writing down where on the log scale a station may be. Normally this is good for radios that have a dial that is not super accurate, or to help when a band is rather congested. You could write down, "tuning indicator between Log 1 and 2 is my favorite rock station on FM".

    The option to use easily available AA batteries is a huge advantage!
    Does the XHDATA have the 26-27 MHz CB and Amateur 10m band on it?

    • @todderbert
      @todderbert  5 років тому +4

      no it doesn't, just the additional 31m and the 19m bands that the SuperSonic is missing. Edge goes to XHDATA for that one, I have found mulitple stations on those two bands.

  • @marcosmza1962
    @marcosmza1962 5 років тому +1

    Thanks for sharing. I like the XHDATA display, but you are right. In MW it sucks. I prefer more accuracy. About the sound, I think both are good for it size. For a shirt pocket I prefer the D-328. A real shame that Supersonic lacks that two bands (!!!) Is a good performer! Instead of bluetooth and other toys, both should incorporate a led to illuminate the dial IMHO. Sir another great video about cheap but useful receivers.
