I'm Australian and live in a small country town, our fields aren't the best quality but they do the required job. When I was in high school we played a game of Rugby against a team from the city, where they used the stadiums of the professional teams so they're fields were well manicured. The game in my small country town occurred not long after we had been through a very big flood 3-4 meters of water or the field for a week. When the flood subsided and the field dried out it turned into concreate. We were in the locker room getting ready and you could hear our boots on the concrete floor, when we left the locker room and ran onto the field the sound beneath our feet was even louder. The game was subsequently ended early by the referee due to safety concerns as the city team had 11 ambulances come to the field and 9 of their players were hospitalised. us country folk are tougher than those city folk

I forgot how great Jerome Brown was until I watched a full game recently and he just tore through the hogs on every play. He often wasn't the guy making the play but he flushed ball carriers into tacklers on any play where the ball stayed between the tackles for longer than half a second.

It’s because so many injuries happened. Yes, football isn’t as action packed as back then but the humans on the field are safe and can go back home to their families in one piece.
