South Africa is holding its general election today. Almost 28 million registered voters will decide the country's fate. These are the most competitive elections in South Africa in 30 years. Since 1994, South Africa has been ruled by the African National Congress Party. Under Nelson Mandela, the ANC managed to bring an end to Apartheid, so the party has been rewarded with electoral wins ever since. But today, South Africa has the worst unemployment rate in the world and crime is on the rise. Will young voters continue to support the ANC, or will they opt for one of the opposition parties for economic growth?

@ NQA1209 ZANU is Zimbabwean political party in government since the beginning of their democracy and they have good relations with ANC. ANC has allowed open borders . South Africa has 15 million illegal immigrants from both Zimbabwe and Mozambique combined. Some of this illegal immigrants have identity books and we know they vote all the time to keep ANC in power. That’s why ANC makes it hard to documents this guys in the country
As a South African, I can tell you that even if the ANC manages to dodge a bullet and hold on to power, nothing will change. The decay is likely to continue.

Why were the computerized voter registers continually going offline? Did a Gupta computer company get the tender? It doesn't matter whether its the IEC, Dept. of Home Affairs, SASSA, etc, the computers are always offline.
I was born Indian citizen in Ethiopia in 1967, raised in Zambia and when my folks moved to S Africa in 1982, I went to Kerala to do my pre university - 11th / 12th and 1st degree in Karnataka. Back here to South Africa and here since 1990 and citizen.
Few things - life for Indians is better here since 1994. Also for Africans here and in the rest of the continent. There is an over emphasis on for e.g Zimbabwe as black failure, but that country's failure has more to do with western sanctions and nobody talks about it. That fear mongering is affecting media sentiment towards South Africa - west promotes such. Yes the govt is corrupt. Tell me which govt is not. Yes, the leaders in the ANC are self serving but their policies are fair. The ANC is good re policies- the leaders, not as good.

I have travelled to over 30 countries in Africa, Asia, UK & Europe, US and Brazil. There is no place like South Africa. Best people, weather..everything! Yes crime is bad, abd has always been - almost as bad as south side of Chicago. Remember there was no free press before 1994. Black (including Indian) deaths did not matter. Stability in govt - hopefully we dont go as bad as the UK with the swinging door at 10 Downing and lied to Brexit.
Apart from India and many asian countries, all countries at best have maintained. S Africa may have regressed when balancing many years of Aparthied so not as good for wealthy, and growing pains for all, but decline is not as bad as the west

I think Malema wanted to make South Africa a communist state by nationalizing all businesses, abolishing the current national anthem, expelling all minorities, and so on. Coalition government should be topic of the outcome of this 2024 elections. Political parties need each other to form coalitions. Whether they like it or not.
