Mr. Skinny bee man, one thing I do to go thru a mean hive is move it!!! Move it 20 feet or so to another stand before going thru the frames. Most of the mean ones fly back to their stand! Just thought I'd mention that trick. Great video!
There is nothing worse then a mean hive of honeybees and for some reason we end up with one just about every year. When you dread opening a hive up that takes all the fun & enjoyment out of it for me. Glad to see you are doing well Joe !! Stay Safe
I had some of the same nasty attitude bees this yr also! Climbing on legs and shot gunning face !, made 20 splits from 3 dbl.deep hives with swarm cells from other hives,19 queen right new laying queen's ! Mine had also been gentle last season, but came out of winter fat and sassy this spring! Do you add any supports to your starter strip frames, like wire or fishing line? Thanks for your time! Have great wkend also!
Start off with a strong hive. Attempt a walkaway split End up with 2 weak hives. Lose hives to hive beetles. Story of my life. Nice video. Good to see an expert at his craft.
I usually have 1 mean colony every season for whatever reason? About a month ago I had one and I just pinched the queen and hoping for the best. So far they are much better. Usually I buy a mated queen. No need for mean colonies.
