I love it for Urban Sketching, particularly since I live next to a major East Coast US City. Finally colors I can use & don’t need to premix before going out. This set is the color of a City a US midAtlantic City … grungy and dark with a touch of bright. The grey is absolutely perfect for the consistency and color of Asphalt. Taxi yellow, brick red, grungy grass green, tree brown, and asphalt black / dark grey. 😊 Someone from Scmincke must have visited DC and noticed there weren’t any good colors to quick paint it … btw, the water here near the shoreline is a weird brown, it isn’t blue. Nice painting!
This message is really great!! It made me feel like visiting east coast again….and sketch it! I can always search a photo…what is a good example as a city? Thanks!
I would recommend Georgetown (Washington DC) for visitors, it’s upscale & safe but still has all the old brownstone houses and a colonial City meets modern City feel.
Honestly, I agree with you: I love the muted range, but I can make a grey by combining the red and green in the set. For this to be truly balanced, the set would need a blue. Anyway, buildings tend to have a cold, blue-y tint to them, especially skyscrapers. Otherwise, my favorite assortment of colours from Schmincke Supergranulating so far! Thank you for sharing it!!
Wow thank you for sharing information about this new Schmincke urban set. The colors in this set may be a bit muted for my taste but the painting you did with them is just gorgeous. I really like Schmincke granulating colors, unfortunately they are very expensive in the USA so I will have to admire them from a distance. I agree that they should have included a blue in this set instead of a grey. You have a nice collection of Schmincke colors. Ciao!
Thank you so much Morrison. I think you have very beautiful paint in the US that is very expensive or even not available here….like Da Vinci or even Daniel Smith. What do they say about neighbours’ grass being greener? (It’s an Italian proverb I’m not sure it exists in English). Anyway I only buy Schminke when it’s on sale! Thanks a lot for your very nice words. Ciao!
it's a lovely collection. I would say that about all the super granulation sets, though. I have both the W&N and Schmincke versions of PY159. It's not the strongest of pigments, but I like it for making granulating mixes
@@WatercolorElisabetta you're not wrong 😂. I'd say the W&N is even weaker than the Schmincke, and it needs quite a bit of soaking when you rewet it. I like the Schmincke version better
So you got the new one! You love urban sets for sure ;) As you said in the comments, it lacks a blue, maybe because we cannot live without blues :) I think you can get a brighter yellow if you apply it on several layers, for example to get the saturation for the taxi in the cover of the watercolour box. I only have the forest and the trio haze set, as well as some half pans. The painting is really nice, even without using blue. The result of this pallete is pretty cool.
Hi Estivaliz! I think they used a different pigment for the taxi 😂…maybe Volcano Yellow…thank you for stopping by! I don’t use my Supergranulation collection as much as I could, they are awesome! And you?
@@WatercolorElisabetta Me neather! I want to use them but they are so special and expensive that I don't want to waste them hahaha. It's stupid, they are just waiting for me! I would like to use them in my whimsical and magic forests.
The palette is very muted for my taste. But it does remind me of the muted colours of cities when there isn’t too much sunshine. I loved your painting, though. You really managed to give the impression of water despite the lack of a blue. 🙂
@@WatercolorElisabetta It does remind me of cities on dreary days, which I suppose makes the palette suitable for the subject, but it’s really not for me. I still find them interesting, though, to try and mix the same paints.
I think I got i ages ago on Ali Express....however on Jackson's Art there are quite a few palettes at very reasonable prices like this one www.jacksonsart.com/jackson-s-ceramic-palette-daisy-porcelain-7-well-6-in-diameter?___store=jacksonsart_en&acc=6e5025ccc7d638ae4e724da8938450a6 Thank you for your comment Marigold!
HI Elisabetta and thank you for showing us this set. Well ... I have mixed feelings for this set. For a start that yellow is very weak and the other colours are very "antique" to say so. Not bad but a very odd combination of colours.
Hello there! I agree that yellow is not the most intense 😳…however I find that these colour look nice together…yes a vintage almost antique look but pleasant to my eyes…thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
@@WatercolorElisabetta Hmmmm… they should not have done that. They should only use paints that are in the palette. I know that other manufacturers do that as well, but I just wish that they were a bit more honest about their products.
Elisabetta the sketch is really good and I enjoy the groovy music!
Thank you! Have a lovely day 😍

Your art is always so beautiful but I don't think this palette is versatile enough for interesting urban painting. Thank you so much for the review!!
Hi Natalie!! Yes I agree you need more colours for proper sketching, but it’s a lovely addition…thanks a lot for your message!

Lovely painting. I agree a blue should have been there not grey

Not my favorite set but you managed to make a lovely sketch nonetheless! I like the Volcano Yellow on its own; I have it on a dot card.

Anyone else noticed that the taxi on the cover is very bright? It looks like pure PY159.
I did! It’s maybe with a touch of cadmium!

My yellow is bright in this kit. Maybe because I used more on my brush … or less water ?
