Lifesaver. I'll get this done tomorrow. Mine started as a leak, and I thought I'd tighten the hose clamp and Wham-O. The elbow just broke off. This is a great fix, cheers bud.
Nice vid, just finished doing the mod saved mega dollars I didnt remove the small heater hose at the firewall but rather cut the aluminium pipe then the rest broke away from the heater hose because the elbow was completely cracked. Dug out the broken bits left in hose then fit a new elbow I bought from the auto shop then cut short length of 3/4 inch heater hose to bridge the gap to the aluminium pipe All up cost me $28 dollars for a pipe cutter,3 clamps,1 elbow and 50cm of hose which I only ended up using 30cm of. Sure beats $500 that Nissan wants for the whole assembly not to mention hassle of fitting or getting them to do the same.
The plastic crap near the firewall is what breaks first, that bulkhead deal is such a poor design. I cut the aluminium pipe so that it would give me more room to attach the rubber hose (just 25mm heater hose) and double secure it using 2 hose clamps. If this video helped and got you out of a barrel, I am happy to share a fix for these awesome vehicles although the service back up sucks. It cost me $35.00 because I didn't have a pipe cutter that cost $10.00. Thank you for your comment and keep on truckin'
Mate! you sir, are a legend. I can't believe they want over $400 and force you to replace the entire essembly over a small plastic fitting. That's some really bad industrial design right there.
Glad to be of help, Nissan AU does not keep any parts in stock. Another recommendation is put a K&N filter in Lieu of stock. Better fuel economy and a few extra horsepower.
Good to hear.. follow my channel for all sorts of crap... Includes Navara / Frontier probs . BTW the truck is doing some insane Km's/Miles and has not missed a beat since the repair...
Also check your brake lines, they can fail if there is another line near them and might rub they are as thin as a cond*m. Also not in stock from Nissan...
Just make sure that you bleed out any air bubbles, and use a great coolant, I use Nulon, so far so good after so many years this fix just rocks! Thank you for watching and your comment.
Hey mate, i had this very thing happen to me today, what dogs Nissan are to put a plastic pipe in where there is high heat! Anyways, love this solution, what size is the heater hose? Cant seem to find a general hose at supercheap
Just what I want to hear. Every day e descend a 2.2km road falling 400m with 8 hairpin bends. Already one accident and 2 deaths in 2022 from failed brakes.
Hi mate. Same just happened to my 2009 Navara d40. What is that whole pipe called? I'd like to eventually replace it but I'll definitely use your idea. Looks cheaper and easier. Will it work as well at original pipe and last long?
Yes it will. Try and find a mechanic friend that has a venturi effect style cooling system bleeder if you need to bleed the system. I was lucky and only lost a very small amount of coolant and when I refilled (overfilled) the system the motor sucked up what was lost and there were no air pockets.
@@kpskingdom thanks man. Saved me heaps of cash. Ive looked in the engine bay of other navs, some have that bleed hole, some dont. Didnt need it anyway.
How did everybody remove the flexible heater hose off the original fitting where it comes out of the fire wall? I can't get it off. There is a very tight clamp I can't remove..?!
Hey mate, great video! I just did this quick repair, however after a 20 minute drive my car began to overheat again. (Previously began to overheat when pipe broke and dropped the coolant) Any other ideas why? Also the heater still only blows cold air. Cheers!
I was lucky and had a mate check for any leaks with an air pump. When this event occurs it can overheat and a head gasket can blow. I overfilled the overflow tank and it sucked through the coolant. It might be an idea to get a radiator specialist bleed it for you (supply the correct coolant to save you $$$) I use the recommended Nulon brand. There are great suction units available that use the venturi effect to remove excess air(but they can be expensive.)
The nipple was plastic on mine and it just snapped. Just like the rest of that transition block. I cut the inlet metal line from the motor and connected it directly to the heater box inlet with old school heater hose.
very nice , please help me I have a Nissan pathfinder 2010 se , there a plastic thing in the oem heater hose pipe tube assembly which was broken and leak water through it , how can I do like you
It should be exactly the same as the modification that I did. If it is the other side just get longer heater hose and a piece of metal pipe to go between them. Good Luck!
It was pretty stuck on the firewall side so i twisted the hose until it loosened. Job was complete within 30min. Sprint auto parts had the pipe cutter too, saving me a seperate trip to bunnings. Thanks for the video. Without it I would have had to leave my car where it was.
that part just broke on me. did the same thing you did. just making sure someone else did it before me. great video!

It is now 2023 and it has still held together 200,220Kms later
You are a bloody legend mate..! Thanks for sharing this. Really helpful.
Saved me hundreds thanks mate

Thanks so much for this vid, plastic junction broke on me today, will do this fix, your a champion
Did this today to my 2007 navara, worked great!!!👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks heaps

Just saved my life, cheers legend!!
Same. Nearly cooked the engine as the plastic male connector broke at the same time we were having trouble with the turbo.
Also check your brake lines, they can fail if there is another line near them and might rub they are as thin as a cond*m. Also not in stock from Nissan...
Thank you sooo much matey. life saver
Pisser thanks mate. You just saved me $350. I owe you a few frothies :).
Great video, just repaired mine the same, works perfect, cheers
Thanx u saved my day just had same problem.
Life saver brother. Any problems down the line?

25mm or 1" from Repco
Great idea mate! Mine plastic bit is leaking.. I'll do this. New sub from me 👍
Just what I want to hear.
So Cool!!!
what if on my d40 its just the bleed bit knackerd , will this work so i can bypass the whole bleeding section ?
Yes it will. Try and find a mechanic friend that has a venturi effect style cooling system bleeder if you need to bleed the system. I was lucky and only lost a very small amount of coolant and when I refilled (overfilled) the system the motor sucked up what was lost and there were no air pockets.
The oem part has a little hole with a closed off hose attached, this is obviously removed in your fix, did this have a function?
I deleted everything between the metal pipe to the heater box as that "nipple" has no function. Thanks for watching.
@@kpskingdom thanks man. Saved me heaps of cash. Ive looked in the engine bay of other navs, some have that bleed hole, some dont. Didnt need it anyway.
It's clearly a bleeder valve but no function will do hahaha
How did everybody remove the flexible heater hose off the original fitting where it comes out of the fire wall? I can't get it off. There is a very tight clamp I can't remove..?!
We removed the other piping around it then did that one, then cut down the pipe
Hey mate, great video!

You need to bleed the excess air out of the system after this "operation"
KPs KINGDOM oh wow thanks for the quick reply. Any tips to bleed the system on a d40?

Are you bypassing the heater? I'm quite confused. Lol. The little nipple rusted out on mine and honestly don't need it here in the south.
The nipple was plastic on mine and it just snapped. Just like the rest of that transition block. I cut the inlet metal line from the motor and connected it directly to the heater box inlet with old school heater hose.
Legend
Did you get your pipe cutter from Bunnings
Actually Home Hardware/ Mitre 10.. But Bunnings would be alright, but if you want a real quality unit try Sydney Tools.
very nice , please help me I have a Nissan pathfinder 2010 se , there a plastic thing in the oem heater hose pipe tube assembly which was broken and leak water through it , how can I do like you
It should be exactly the same as the modification that I did. If it is the other side just get longer heater hose and a piece of metal pipe to go between them. Good Luck!
the problem is that the design of my car hoses differ from your car , I don't know how to explain it ... do have a facebook page
I'm just about to do this.
Good stuff!! Just be careful that you don't break the other side
It was pretty stuck on the firewall side so i twisted the hose until it loosened. Job was complete within 30min. Sprint auto parts had the pipe cutter too, saving me a seperate trip to bunnings. Thanks for the video. Without it I would have had to leave my car where it was.
Fantastic! I am glad my video helped you out.
For what year of Navara is this for?
This is a 2007 model but I think from 2005-2015 are the same.
Also known as a D40.
