I clean & grease the blade bolts every time we sharpen them. Makes life easier.

What a great idea, I will do that next spring...

@@stevekopcial129 also anti-lock solutions but they're out of reach for me so I use grease. The threads direction in relation to the forces shouldn't let these go loose if you tighten them just enough with an impact drill or a suitable torque wrench without overkilling it. Much luck!

Great video! The next time you get a frozen nut or bolt, apply Kroil and let it soak in for a while. If it's really stubborn or badly rusted, let it soak for a couple of hours. You might find it at your local gun shop or you can get it on Amazon. It's not cheap, but it works. I find it superior to PB. As mentioned below, anti-seize is a great idea. I use it on any bolts that get exposed to the elements.

Dude.... you put those blades on waaaay to tight!!!. Literally need to be hand tight. No way you will ever be able to change blades without taking deck off each time

I put the zerk fitting grease gun grease on the blade bolt threads, never lost a blade. Never had an issue loosening the bolts. I’m sure it’s not right but it works.

John nice video. Couple of things you are doing, over tighten the bolts on old blades, 50# torque on these bolts. Should use anti seize on bolts. If you have the correct tap, should run it in each support for the blades. Used a torch overheats and cooks the grease and seals in the support. Heat is LAST choice. Impact guns are a no-no for tightening. Let PB set over night and spray couple of times. Tap bolt lightly to shock it. This will let pb get into threads and help release. Last thing ANTISEIZE the bolts and use torque wrench. Torque to spec. NIce video and help info.

You're using the wrong impact gun. That one is too small

Two words. Anti-seize (for the blade bolts)
    Torque wrench.

Agreed. If he thought the middle one was bad before, it’s going to be 10 times worse when it’s time to change them again.

As we don't have this solution at reach -we use grease. It helps, and it's way way better than nothing I guess

No need to tighten the living jesus out of those bolts!! Even my Ryobi 18 volt impact driver is too much at 150 ft/lb of torque. Also, use anti-seize on those threads!

  • @steveconsalvez4320

My friend. The manual states 50 pounds of torque. Unless you're really wimpy, which you do not look like, you're maybe putting in 80 pounds. It's way too much...

Everybody worried about torque and oil but I'm thinking u put blades on wrong... Been a while for me on mulching blades but I thought cupped part of blade went upward....

You need a DeWalt DCF899B. I have one I keep in my truck that I use to break away stubborn bolts but the situation can be avoided by simply using anti-seize and torquing them to spec so you know you will be able to break them loose when needed.

Get the 1/2" drive Milwaukee 18v fuel impact, guarantee it will be tight enough

Good vid. How do you open and close the baffles? My X380 has wiring and a switch on the console but I am upgrading to the 1023E and would rather there be a simple manual open and close, particularly since I will be taking the deck on/off more frequently

A little tip, Use WD40 on the under side of the mower deck and it will keep the grass from sticking.

Heat and cool with new application of penetrating oil and be very careful about fire.

FYI, there's a torque specified for those blade bolts. I have a 48" deck and the torque is only 50 ft lbs, which isn't a lot really and looks like way less than you put on yours. You don't have to work so hard, man! Great video though, thank you!!!! How well did the kit work? Were you satisfied with the mulching results?

    • @JohnnysTipsandTricks
      @JohnnysTipsandTricks  6 років тому

Didn’t know about the torque rating. Thank you, I will check it out and be careful next time. The kit worked great. It feels a bit different with the kit on. What I mean is, it vibrates occasionally and I keep thinking something is wrong but there’s nothing wrong. The results are much better than I expected and I mean much better. When I cut tall grass there seems as there is nothing there so I would recommend 100%. I am planning on doing a vid on it this weekend to show the results. Subscribe if you haven’t yet. If just started putting on my tractor videos with attachments. I have a few on now, check them out and tell me what you think. Either way good luck and thanks

I know your just looking out but the angle of the camera doesn’t really show how far away he actually was. I could have swung the hammer like a crazy man and he couldn’t have gotten hit.
