I really like this comparison videos. Great job man!
Still remember when me and my brother used to play it on our Saturn in the 90s.

I loved this game, but could never figure out a proper strategy. I mostly just mashed buttons and hoped for the best.

VF2 blew my mind on the Saturn. I honestly didn't think the Saturn could do the arcade justice but it was damn good.

Yeah, it was really surprising after the first generation of Saturn games. They really did an amazing job with it.

We played the hell out of the Saturn version. You did a great job on this video. The port to Saturn was awesome.

Thanks, absolutely loved it on Saturn back in it's day. I don't know anyone at the time that wasn't blown away by it.

Nice vid! With interlaced, what is 60FPS is kind of a bit grey but yeah on sat it does look phenomenal! It routinely imoresses me more than any other game on any system really when I play it. Just how smooth and crisp it is. Also I didn't think that the floors were too low res, they just have much worse aliasing in the distance where there is no AA or trilinear interpolation or even basic mip mapping I think. I would have said texture inerpolation was more pronounced on N64 than Dreamcast because of the much lower res textures.

Yeah, VF2 was just so incredibly impressive when it came out, it blew everything else away at the point it came out. The floor texture resolution IS much lower than the arcade game, but still looked good for a Saturn game. But overall, a shining example of what could be done on the Saturn!

@@InglebardGaming I suppose it probably is lower. I just didn't notice it as much as the aliasing in the distance. Yes it looks amazing. Especially compared with Tekken.

The flat backgrounds really ruined the Saturn port for me. I think a lot of the people who claim how amazing this port was, had never been to an arcade in early 95. Was the same with Tekken 3 a little later. The home port was flat like a 10 year old. But normies utterly loved it.

Disagree if you want, you're allowed. You can think this wasn't impressive when it came out if you enjoy being wrong. As someone who put over 100 hours into the arcade game before getting the Saturn version when it launched, I can easily attest to the quality of this port in its own time. Of course the $400 (at launch) Saturn didn't exactly match the at-the-same-time thousands of dollars Model 2.
Thanks for stopping by and get well soon.

The port made use of what it had. They couldn't render enough polygons to make the backgrounds how they were in the arcade.

@@laughingfishcreations Yeah, the Saturn COULD have done at least some 3D backgrounds but the tools and developer inexperience didn’t allow for that in 1995. They didn’t have an excuse 2 years later for the PC port however, which already required a for its time unusually powerful CPU like VFPC and later allowed for a 3D accelerator. At least that port did have near arcade perfect character models and Fighting Vipers style lighting as an option.

I agree with both. I was so disappointed by the 2d background on Tekken 3 and VF2. I was always surprised at the time that so many people ignored it. Both were fun, but it did bother me.
