She was the star of The Secret World of Alex Mack, a show about a girl who accidentally received magical powers. In addition, she had memorable turns on 10 Things I Hate About You, The Baby-Sitters Club, and even a brief stint on Boy Meets World.
In recent years, however, we haven’t heard as much from Larisa Oleynik, at least until she was cast in the 2020 Netflix series, The Healing Powers of Dude. Did Hollywood ignore her? Did she willingly step away from public life? Here’s why Larisa Oleynik went from child star to Hollywood outcast.

I love The Secret World of Alex Mack! I bought the entire series on DVD a couple years ago. The show still holds up today.

@@gregorsamsa2271 yeah she just looks so freaking adorable, she brings out the kid in me. It's like we could go on adventures together and she would have my back. I think that's really what every guy wants a girl that will have your back and that you can trust in an innocent type of way. I don't know if I'm making sense. I guess in general, a woman who is sweet, trustworthy, feminine and strong enough to take care of herself. Most women nowadays think being a strong woman means that they have to do everything a man does. That only makes them look masculine. A real strong woman knows how to use her femininity, that's where her true power lies.
@@maq3009 Yeah, I get it.. She also has that typical 90's charme and vibe. And something about her feels familiar. She also seems to be still very down to earth, and very classy. Highly underrated actress, but I also kinda like it that she always stood true to her roots. Never got consumed by the Hollywood madness. Definitely a good role model to look up to!

She was such a big star as a tween, besides Alex Mack, I remember she was always on Nickelodeon kid’s choice awards, All That, The Big Help. She was in commercials and guest roles in Boy Meets World. She should’ve been bigger.

Ya know I loved Alex Mac I had the worst upbringing so seeing that one of my all time fav actress/actors has been able to navigate n wave thru into a good, upstanding happy life for herself n her family without succumbing to the incermountable drug n criminal n mental break down part of all celebs lives it makes me feel so much relief n who cares if she lands roles or not. She's done an amazing job at grounding herself into a pretty incredible person n entertainer. The throwback to "Ten Things I Hate About You" film really took me straight back to Heath Ledger's demise, so I'm just truly glad to find her not letting herself slip down the same slippery path that so many child stars sadly inevitably go.♡☆

She's had recurring roles in Hawaii Five-O and Mad Men, she was in an episode of CSI, and more recently in the two Netflix series' The Healing Powers of Dude and Trinkets. She's had steady work in the last 10 years.

I had a huge crush on Larisa Oleynik from her "Secret Life of Alex Mack" days and "10 Things I Hate About You." But that dude who changed his last name to Oleynik and stalked her??!! That s*** is going way too far. Never would I fathom doing anything close to that.

I've been rewatching this via crummy VHS quality videos. Would love to see an HD release one day. Loved this show as a kid and it still holds up today. I hadn't actually gotten to watch all of it as a kid. I'd also forgotten the name of the show for like 10+ years (maybe 20+) when one day it popped in my mind and I saw it online shortly thereafter. All of a sudden, bam, the show name popped into my head. I had tried hard to recall what it was for years haha
She is now starring in a new nickelodeon sitcom called Erin and Aaron. You should check it out because it's a great show.

This bubbly Type 1 woman looks best in tints and crisp fabrics with some fun design and texture. We need that kind of light in the world and wearing the wrong colors, etc. tends to drag us down and dampen that light. I always identified with her while secretly wanting to be Kat. Major crush on her. But what is wrong with people stalking people. Sheesh.
So every other cast member lost their job on a really good thing, even a movie deal too in The secret world of Alex Mack just because she left... I loved the show but yeah I feel bad that the show got canned because of one person.
I hope she does the adult version where she's a mum with kids. Then the rest of the cast can return and get some redemption for being given the cold shoulder.
