Once upon a time, ol' Grandpa Joe sat on his creaky porch, gently rocking back and forth in his trusty rocking chair. He took slow sips of ice-cold lemonade, savoring the sweet and sour taste as it refreshed his old bones. Bessie, his loyal dog, lay sprawled beside him, her head resting on Grandpa Joe's lap. Her ears perked up every now and then as the wind whispered through the trees, carrying secrets from a time long gone.
"Now, Bessie," Grandpa Joe began, "lemme tell you a tale, an unusual tale 'bout two remarkable Sony cameras, the FX3 and the Sony ZV-E1." Bessie tilted her head, curious to hear what her master had to say.
"Y'see, Bessie, these cameras were magical, and the photos they captured held the power to transport you back in time." The old man chuckled, remembering how times had changed since his youth. "Oh, those were the days! Back when lil' Billy and Timmy were just knee-high to a grasshopper, growin' up in the 1950s."
He continued his story, painting a vivid picture of the two young boys, exploring the world with the wonder and innocence of childhood. "One day, Billy and Timmy decided to roll a huge tractor tire off Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They heaved and ho'd, pushin' with all their might until the tire began to roll." Bessie's eyes widened, following the tale with rapt attention.
"As the tire rolled down the ridge, it picked up speed, and then it hit a part of the street that was just like a ramp. Oh, Bessie, you should've seen it! That tire flew high into the sky like a bird set free, and then... BAM!" Grandpa Joe clapped his hands, and Bessie jumped, her ears flopping as she barked in surprise.
"Down came that tire, right on top of a fancy convertible car, smashin' it flat as a pancake! The poor fella who owned it, he just stood there, jaw on the ground, swearin' up and down he'd seen a big black UFO come out of the sky, stomp his car, and take off again!"
Bessie wagged her tail, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she imagined the man's reaction.
"Now, Bessie, I reckon them two cameras I mentioned earlier were like that tire. They brought memories crashin' down on us, remindin' us of the good ol' days, and the adventures we've had." Grandpa Joe leaned back, content as he sipped his lemonade, the sun setting in the distance.
With a wag of her tail, Bessie snuggled closer to her master, knowing that the memories they shared were worth more than any fancy camera or convertible car. And as the crickets began their nightly serenade, Grandpa Joe and Bessie drifted off to dream of days gone by, when tires flew like UFOs and cameras held the magic of time travel.

I was out using the FX3 to film my kids tennis match yesterday. Even in the warm sun, it performed perfectly shooting 4K/60. The FX3 is a seriously capable stills camera too. It’s quickly becoming my favorite camera of all time.
yeah - overall it’s the best camera for video you can buy and it does take great stills. Hopefully it will get some more updates soon!!
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis like today with the 3.0 firmware
I ordered an FX3 and am waiting for the EV1 to come out. The FX3 will be A cam and the EV for flying. My cutaway rig is an old 6100 which I may replace with an FX30. I got nervous about the overheating reports on the EV1. Can't have that. Love the stabilization on the EV1 and how light it is. I'm shooting for weight reduction.
Love this review man, super helpful and you laid out all the pros/cons so well, thanks! ✨
More cameras than less cameras. Words to live by.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it.
It's not about cameras anymore, just watching for entertainment, and nice videos!
haha - well, I’m just glad you’re here
So true)
Thank you for this review, by far the best one I have seen. all other reviews and comparisons have been biased or from a "youtuber" stand point instead of just laying out the key differences and similarities of the camera!
Thanks!!
Excellent points. Maybe for my studio i could do the zv-e1 and have the fx30 as a B-cam and to take outside. I live in florida so i need it to be better with rain and heat. Great vid thanks!👏
While I will never need either of these cameras, Doug fits my needs for my uses. I really enjoy your videos and recommendations.
thanks!!
‘These are the only clothes I own’…and we only see you from the waist up! Another great video Mark! You’ve almost sold me on the E1 but I will need to sell my more extensive set of clothes to afford the new lenses.
🤣🤣
Sony just added focus breathing compensation to the FX3 via firmware update today! 👍
I know - amazing. and anamorphic desqueeze!!
That is exactly what I was thinking. I can just get an fx30 for dedicated long video stuff, and zve1 for run and gun video stuff, and keep my A7iv as backup.
Hello, thank you for your video. I would appreciate hearing your recommendation. I'm considering upgrading from my Sony a6400 to a full-frame camera, and I'm facing a dilemma: whether to spend more and get the FX3 or save money and go for the ZV-E1, getting pretty much the same image but with the remaining funds invested in more lenses, etc? I shoot a variety of content, from events to weddings, so my direction is quite diverse. I really want to upgrade and start to make more professional videos, but I’m kinda stuck between these two and don’t know what to choose.
Does clear image zoom on the ZV allow you to use APS-C lenses in a way similar to the IV? That'd be a major plus. Would also love to see overheating tests of the ZV-E1 using something like the third party fan coolers made for the A6500 (with a thermal pad?).
at this point, I just hope that Zv-e1 will succeed in the market so that we still get an updated zv series in the future..
I think it’s going to do well
Best channel ever. You EXACTLY know what users might search for.
Thanks!!
Focus breathing is on the FX30 too. Good video here. Thx.
yes it is. but not the fx3 unfortunately
I’m not sure if buying a fx3 or zve1, I do vlogging streaming on hotels on exteriors or interiors with little light …which you recommend me…? Also for stabilization should I get a gimbal like sr2 ronin or just the handle of the fx3 ?
Mark i have 3 ZVE10 (the APSC) and im not in any need for new cameras anytime soon. But i still watch your videos to be in the know
This makes you. good person
Great tip about the FX30 AND ZV-E1 for the same price as the FX3.
I use them together constantly
Hi Mark. I love your videos . Could you please review and compare Fujifilm XH2S.
The mic! I’m really keen to see some more real world testing of that, lots of situations that it would be nice to ditch the shotgun mic.
to have a full frame with 15 stops of dynamic range, great stabilization AND no need for a mic. might the ultimate mobile setup.
Nice job!
I think the ZV-E1 is a game changer for me. Whenever I get the ZV-E1, I will be keeping my FX30. My plans are to use my FX30 in warmer environments, and use the ZV-E1 in interior and cooler environments. Regarding the single SD card slot, it's not an issue with me. For me, it's the quality of the SD card brand that matters most. I've used the SanDisk Extreme cards for years with no issues or fails. I will never touch Lexar cards, as I've only heard bad news about them more than any other brand. Silly me, I filmed a feature film using one card in a GH5. But, nothing went wrong. Was I pushing my luck? Can't say, as I've yet to experience a card failure.
In the end, I think the ZV-E1 looks like a great camera and I want it.
Very handsome review and comparison video.
I want it too. imma getting it 🤣
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I look forward to your hands on reviews of the ZV-E1. They will keep me inspired enough to work towards getting my own ZV-E1. Both the FX30 and ZV-E1 are able to support my filmmaking needs for a long, long time.
thnx Mark. can you please also make a comparison between Alpha 7S3 vs ZV-E1 please?
I just bought the zv-e1 6:00 - but I can't seem to make Focus Breathing COmpensation work in the 120p 4k mode. Is this not possible? I can't find anything on the sony website that says that it shouldn't work...
love the idea having 2 cameras for same money as fx3 Subscribed🤝
Very useful
Ooohh...GREAT one!
5:05 thanks Mark. You are the best. Mark is my favorite and go-to name for the antagonist whenever I am writing a script for a short-film.
To the point about the Time Code. Well, I can always Sort/arrange the file in a folder/Finder on Mac according to date of creation. And it works for me. What do you think? Love and peace! ✌🏼
There are also time code jammers from places like tentacle sync
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis thanl for sharing Mark. You are just the best...
Can I ask why you prefer full size hdmi?
Usbc video out has been proven better quality vs the hdmi which takes up so much space.
because most monitors and accessories that ask for the Audi/video output do not accept USB-C. HDMI and SDI are usually used for Audi/video transfer with cameras to connect to gear. So on the zv-e1, you’ll still be using the hdmi for connection, and a full size one is better. You can use the usbc for streaming though in limited ability. (no picture profiles, or log output)
Hey Mark I love your videos, I have a question, can I use Sigma 16mm 1.4 on A7III for video?
you can yes. it will go into apsc crop mode and give you a 24mm look (same as on an apsc camera)
thanks mr Nolan
PLEASE HELP: so I’ve always bought Nikon starter cams (Nikon d3200, and I own a d3400) I make content for people, sometimes even music videos for clients. I want to upgrade but I can’t afford my dream cam a Sony as7iv series. Is the Zve 1 proper for the music videos and stuff? I never had a cropped and mirrorless cam
I think you should look at the fx30. It's an APSC camera like the d3200 and d3400 but it's amazing for video, will not overheat, and has two card sloths. You could also look at the full frame A7IV if you don't need 4k120
+1 fx30
Hahaha laughed out loud at intrigued? No? Please watch anyway You're always entertaining all while being informative, love it !
🤣
Hey, what was on your right side in this video? You looked so often to the right! ;-) I think the ZV E 1 is hyped in these days. Not worth the money. Mini HDMI Slot - so no Ninja V or Monitor. 4K 120 only in the future. Overheating? Seems to be an issue. So, I will stick with my A7SIII, FX30 and A7C. Thanks for your great work!
you can still use the Ninja - you just need a micro HDMI port to Full size. I do it all the time with my other cameras.
How does audio recording /monitoring compare?
Can the headphone volume be adjusted wile recording? (unlike the FX3)
I'll check it when it arrives - but since you can't do it on any of the Sony's I have - I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully, you'll be able to custom key it to the new touch screen.
Pls pls make a comparison video between zve1 and a7r5. Thank you!!
just a heads up, the fx3 does now have breathing compensation due to a firmware update
yes - and anamorphic mode - great additions
When I first held the FX3 first thing I noticed was I wish the screen was larger The screen to camera body ratio feels off everything else 100%
Question, on my ZV-E1, if I'm in very low light, the camera going between ISO10k and 12.8k is jarring, the image keeps flickering between beautiful/clean and super noisy. Does this also happen on the FX3 or is this a ZV-E1 specific issue? -- Any advice for that other than setting the ISO manually?
this would be the same on the fx3 if you’re using auto iso because the 2nd base iso is 12,800 so the image will clean up. it’s best if you’re close to that level to manually set it as 12,800 for the best results.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I see, if I understand correctly Cine EI is a way to work around this on the FX3, but unfortunately this is missing on the ZV-E1 that only has Flexible ISO.
Can you do a ZV E1 vs Lumix S5ii comparison? Thanks!
Yeah Mark. Thanks!
I have noticed that Sony has flashing on and off when the settings need to be changed. I see it on mine A7c all of the time. So I get tired of seeing this so I put it on Auto then forget about it. 😊
I know this is random but how long does the battery last on the zv e10 asking for future podcaster
the battery lasts about 90 mins, but you can plug in a usb power bank and get at least 5 hours (because the battery still drains slowly while powered by usb)
Fx3 is dual 800 and 12800. What is native iso of ZVE1? And is it dual?
the ZV-E1 is the same as the A7SIII - dual at ISO 640 and 12,800
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis don't know why FX3 being identical inside with A7S3 shows 800 as lower native onenas opposed to 640. So if low light is also good them this new camera is excellent!
i have a friend that works in production, he has the fx3, he says he's had overheating issues with it.
I saw another channel use a DC computer fan(1.5"in size) with a little battery. He claims it helps cool the cameras. Do you still have the ZV-E1? I wish channels would have experimented with fans to see if that worked. Another idea is an insulated cage for hot days, with the fan.
The compact size of the ZV-E1 is a selling point. I can literally put it in my jacket pocket and forget about it. Or pants pocket with lens separate.
On occasions where I might want to record longer, I would love to find custom solutions.
One solution to not being water sealed is an UMBRELLA! :) I am not water sealed either so if I am using a camera in the rain, I will have an umbrella. Perhaps a small coldshoe mount umbrella.
they never sent me a zv-e1, but I have one on order. iPhonedo used to always use a fan with his a6300 back in the day - so it definitely could work.
Fx30 rules!
not sure why i cant stop watching your videos about the zv-e1, you dont even have the camera but for some reason i trust your opinion more than someone who DOES have the camera 🤨
It's because I love them all so I leave no stone unturned. I can talk about them for hours. Just imagine when I DO get the camera 🤣
Soultion ! Get both 🙃
There’s a new update for the fx3 that fixes the focus breathing issue
yes and adds an anamoophic mode - great news. This video was released prior to the update

Sony ZV-E1
Hello can you please answer my 3 questions I would be grateful. 1: at 4k 120 FPS or FHD 240 FPS which stabilizer can you activate? E.g. you can activate the speech stabilizer. 2: 120 FPS and 240 FPS focus training works? 3: at low light is the same as FX3 and A7siii?
Oh yes! 🎉 FF vs FF 🤪
Very informative...from Nairobi Kenya.
Version 3 firmware FX3 has focus breathing
Yes - this video was posted before the update - so that that's great news. Also - anamorphic desqueeze!!
Pros shooting anything in 4k60 might aswel use a phone as it over heats after a few minutes outdoors
you definitely want an fx30 or fx3 if you're professionally shooting and want to use the higher frame rates,
@Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis yea but £2200 is a professional price and they gave us the 4k60 framerate with a 4k120 on the way, just remember it was unacceptable for Canon to give us 8k that overheated within 30 minutes so 4k60 is unacceptable, it's a camera for the fan boys who don't question anything
Dear Mark i really like your nice videos specially your apple juice 😂 TNX a lot
FX30 + ZV-E1....It is going to be glorious Mark, glooooooooooooooooorious. You need to start a club and have t-shrits made.
Yeah it's like an FX3 if an FX3 overheated after a half an hour.
You forgot to mention that ZV-E1 has the Anti-Flicker option in video mode, which is basically a variable speed option which the FX3 (a "cinema camera") doesn't even have (even after Update 3.0). As a videographer and FX3 owner, I wish I had most of the options listed on the right... I just can't wrap my head around Sony's decisions to not include some of these options in the latest firmware update. Guess we'll have to wait for a FX3mkII and pay the big price again.
it’s puzzling for sure
would be nice to have time stamps
The whole things is just a list. You can skip to the end and see everything listed on the screen - but I'll try to add them if I can find the time
Hahaha the best intro
For $1,800 I’m sticking with the FX30.
great camera for sure. Does pretty much everything
What happened to drinking beer? I love the entertainment.
I still do it, but a lot of people are very sensitive and like to judge and complained a lot 🤣🤣
Someone get this man new clothes!
It's my youtube uniform!!
What about the ze-v1 vs Panasonic S5 IIX ?
Yes, Mark, This is a real consideration. If i spend $2,000.00 on a Sony ZV-E1, I might as well get a Panasonic Lumix S5IIx. Please compare them in depth. Thanks.
@@TheChadWork2001 exactly!!
Overheating is enough reason for picking the FX3 over the plastic overheating ZV-E1. At least for 70% of the earth's population.
the fx3 is a reliable workhorse for sure
Not turning on the back lights anymore? Pretty faces need pretty lights. Now flip those switches!
it’s just to write the words on the screen for these comparison vids 🤣
