He was a Garter snake who got hit by a lawnmower and it shaved off one of his eyes, and Emily had the other one surgically removed because it risked rupturing.
Zolrain I think they all technically can hear to an extent but it would be somewhat like if we were always covering our ears with our hands or if we were underwater. They’re mostly picking up on vibrations so many sounds may not be detectable to them
@@eliduran902 actually snakes dont have any thing relating to sound. They cant hear you talk or anything, its only vibrations that you let off and heat for most of them. Lizards and such have ears, if snakes had ears there would be holes in the sides of their heads too.

Nearly headless Nick was a good little Garter Snake, and got ran over by a lawnmower, tho he lost one of his eyes he kept fighting, though do to his injuries his other eye swelled up so he had to get surgery to get it removed, and he sadly passed away 1 year and 28 days after she got him, he lived much longer than expected, I hope that little guy is doing well.

Have you considered getting a x-ray of his skull? I think it would be very interesting to see how the skull looks with the eye naturally being in their place and if there is any difference from snakes with eyes
They said with Rex that they dont want to X-ray out of curiosity, just out of medical necessity so I don't think they will. Probably because of the radiation.
I love how with almost every snake they get that has such a chance of dying, us viewers always get attached right away and start getting names for them
I don't think anyone could beat Entirely Eyeless Iris, but you could name him Zoobat since that's one of the only eyeless pokemon (and Zoob for short cuz that's just adorable)
My cat was eyeless. But he miraculously actually had so little eyes that we didn't notice until his eyes started to grow and they grew into his eye sockets
Humans' eyes don't grow, but some animal eyes do a little. From what it sounds like, there was just a birth deformity where the eyes were choked while developing, and then it may have managed to develop a little further after birth. I'm no vet though, take what I say with a grain of salt ^^

Yea, I love Iris. It means rainbow in Spanish and has the "eye" sound at the beginning to complement that unique trait. Also, It's just plain and pretty, so even if you're not a fan of names with lots of meaning, you can just enjoy its simplicity.

Fun fact: it's generally believed that snakes _do_ have the cognitive ability to remember things and navigate through an environment. They did experiments with water snakes and observed them learning and navigating the maze more quickly after a few practice runs. They also are capable of understanding cause and effect, and remembering and learning from negative experiences (proven in an experiment with garter snakes that I'm not entirely sure is super ethical). How far that cognitive ability goes, can't say. But I think it's cool that they actually are capable of a little bit

The vet shrugged and said (paraphrased, because this was like 15 years ago, but it really stuck with me) "You know, if you'd asked me a year ago, I would've said no. But this woman, right around your age (I was 18), brought in her rock python with a benign mass that had to be removed. She dropped off the snake, and it took four people to finally get him sedated. I had blood dripping down both arms. The thing was just vicious. When she came to pick him up, I brought him into the room and she immediately kissed him directly on his nose. I was shocked and showed her all the places he'd bit me. And she told me he went through a phase where he'd bite her a lot, too, but she just worked with him until she earned his trust." He said, "I don't know if they're capable of love, but they're definitely capable of _something."_

I had pet rats which are the best pets next to a dog ! This channel and a couple others got me into liking snakes which I always feared!! I happened to get my 1st baby corn snake on an impulse buy and I don't regret it. I didn't know how I could feed it pinkies but it's not as bad especially when they're not alive. I will always love rats and now I will always have an appreciation and a heart for snakes. I'm on my quest for a ball python now! Lol
I own three pet mice and a rat snake. It can be done, just make sure everyone is locked up tight, and wash your hands well when you're done handling one or the other (which you should be doing anyways ;)) to avoid bites from either party.

I had pet rats which are the best pets next to a dog ! This channel and a couple others got me into liking snakes which I always feared!! I happened to get my 1st baby corn snake on an impulse buy and I don't regret it. I didn't know how I could feed it pinkies but it's not as bad especially when they're not alive. I will always love rats and now I will always have an appreciation and a heart for snakes. I'm on my quest for a ball python now! Lol

I own three pet mice and a rat snake. It can be done, just make sure everyone is locked up tight, and wash your hands well when you're done handling one or the other (which you should be doing anyways ;)) to avoid bites from either party.
