A half-year after playing this game, I met a French girl at my college who was studying abroad for the year. I like to think Elizabeth and her brief moment in her own heaven inspired me to learn French and ask that mademoiselle out. It's been a lovely two years, and I owe it in a small way to Elizabeth.

      Kyaw Thu
      It’s been 3 years.
Shoving the memories aside, you step out of the que line, tugging the massive suitcase behind you as you are basked in sunlight, people chattering along the street as a man waits by the taxi.
“Bonjour Monsieur,” he greets before offering a hand.
With a smile you hand him the case “Merci.”
With a nod, you’re off in the streets. The car moving slowly along the road as traffic is declining. You tune out the French radio as your eyes glue to the sights, the rugged buildings and cobblestone roads.
As the sun turned the sky into a orange-purple dusk, the taxi pulled into your destination. A small hotel by the Seine, as the taxi drives off you march up the path and open the door.
The bell is out into the background as you here the old record. Édith Piaf.
      Life in Rosy Hues.
Biting your lip, you quickly finish with the receptionist before hurrying to your room, a small place with smooth wooden floors, old fashioned lights and four poster bed, and hurriedly shutting the door.
      It’s been 3 years.
With a groan you flop onto the bed. It was a video game, just a video ga-
      “Come along.”
      Freezing, you shoot up.
      No way.
      “Yes I understand.”
Rushing to the door, you throw it open to
See the trailing edge of two individuals, a man and woman with light brown hair and tan clothes.
“This experiment is not going to-“
The words died as they rounded the corner.
You followed hastily, as the pair talked more they went down the hall towards a simple door. They both entered, light pouring out so bright you needed to cover your eyes. As it faded, they were gone.
Clenching your fist, you marched straight to the door, turning the knob and opening it.
      Light hit you.
The smell of Freshly baked bread filled your nose along with sour grapes, wine.
      You were in Paris. But...different.
Horses pulled carriages, with people in fancy clothing, men in suits and women in long dresses.
The Eiffel Tower glimmered like the crown jewel of Paris.
As you stared, memories stirred. You knew this place...3 years ago.
      “Booker! Booker come on!”
      You turned.
There she was, Elizabeth, her dark hair bouncing as she giddily slipped across the way. Her fingers trailing over every thing they came across, the thimble winked in the light.
You followed her gaze to see him. Booker. A simple white shirt with a dark vest, but a Rose
pinned to his lapel. As Elizabeth went onwards, he followed, close enough to keep her in sight.
You smiled brightly. Nothing could take this away.
3 years...and they finally made it to Paris.
3 years and you finally saw them.

    Spoiler Alert
After watching Cry play and then playing myself, I realised how many foreshadowing events rhere are in the Paris opening!
I mean I think the beauty was all linked to Rapture's image of being perfect and just amazing but when she got to Sally, it showed how the little sisters kind of changed everything, mainly because of their ADAM.
When you walk through Paris, things have turned chaotic amd vile, you head down the path and a pack pf cards blows past your face, leaving the ace lingering in the air longer than the others. Ace In tje Hole.
Then the thing that caught my eye the most was the lobotamy place, I can't remember exactly but after the cards there was like a clinic for it.
Then when you turn, there's the statue of the Angel from Columbia, the one Elizabeth lived it, kinda proving a return to Columbia...

***** Although do agree with you, that the Anna that lives with booker now is not exactly the same person, the fact that Booker recalls Columbia leaves me the entertaining thought that the Anna there is the same person but at the same time is not. I have always liked to think of it like this. Anna probably didn't resurface in her home dimension until after Elizabeth dies in Rapture in that alternate dimension, so with that in mind, you could almost say that through the constants and variables of the multiverse, Anna is now a reincarnation of Elizabeth, just reincarnated in the same manner. Another way I've seen it is, if Booker recalled Columbia and is probably the same Booker we were following along with all this time, then why can't Elizabeth/Anna?

I’d like to think after Elizabeth’s death, everything was reset and instead of being a tortured soul with a missing pinkie who’s locked in a tower for most of her life...she now goes by Anna and is happily sitting in Paris with booker living the life she always dreamed about.
No songbird. No tower. No pain.
Just a girl in Paris, listening to Edith Piaf play on a nearby record player as she watches the sun rise over the Eiffel Tower.
Wearing the pendant of HER choice.

Even after probing the net for hours for countless theories that could give me closure, with some almost if not entirely a bullseye compared to others, i still feel this void left in me.. The realization and demise of Dewitt/Comstock in the main game's end really made me depressed then followed by the death of Elizabeth in Burial at sea 2, her death really hammered the last nail in the coffin for me.. It was by far the most depressing moment i have had with games, even though it was through her going back to rupture that would set in motion the events for bioshock 1 and 2 and that in the end she realized it too, with jack all of this would end.. I still hoped that Elizabeth didnt die, seeing her smiling face as she tries to reach sally who's singing la vie en rose to comfort her as she slowly passes away made me tear up, (honestly a first time, i wasnt expecting it too) i just wished that she didnt have to die...

I think that it's just like the lion with a thorn in the paw, Sally knew Elizabeth was trying to save her from Rapture, but Atlas was never going to let her go away, even with the Ace in the Hole, so Elizabeth set the stage for the events of Bioshock so Sally was saved by Jack. Sally recognized it and thanked Elizabeth for this. That scene made me cry for hours, I couldn't think to that :'(

    • @Logan-yp9zc
      @Logan-yp9zc 10 років тому

I didn't cry that long but yeah it was a tear jerker and I cried too. I guess it was kind of like Songbird being helped by Elizabeth when she was a child, right? So Sally in a sense was Elizabeth's songbird.

Rapture was pretty cultured in the beginning. Maybe she was french but just lived there or heard that song somewhere. Although an eight year old (I'm guessing 8) memorizing a full song in french is pretty hard. So she's probably from a french family but born in Rapture.

"I was sad that I knew deep inside the fact that Elizabeth wasn't really gonna get what she wanted and this was just a fantasy setting" But the when when thay stupid bird stands on your finger and sings it fucking ruined everything! Lol it's one thing to have us make believe that something so fantastic could happen, like every townsfolk singing to the same song in harmony, but then suddenly pulling a Disney on me was a real killer. Thankfully Sally was close by to finish everything off.

Not exactly. Although Irrational has split, 2k has taken over. The company that co-developed all Bioshock games. The company explained that there are still things to see of the shining city of Rapture.
However, with the development of the new game for the PS4, The Black Glove; We may not see news of a new Bioshock in a while, or ever.
Personally, I think that the series is wrapped up well, with a nice little bow on top. And adding more to the Bioshock franchise might mess it all up. This is one of those cases where we don't NEED another Bioshock, we WANT one. Like the Portal series. c:

Il me dit des mots d'amour,

C'est lui pour moi, moi pour lui dans la vie,

    Et dès que je l'aperçois

Des nuits d'amour à ne plus en finir
Un grand bonheur qui prend sa place
    Des ennuis, des chagrins, s'effacent
    Heureux, heureux à en mourir.
