Here's a tip for probes that seems like junk on continuity tests. Find some really fine grit sandpaper like 3000 or higher. Give it a quick twisting motion rub and try continuity test again. I bet it will improve 10 fold. Nothing against probemasters. They are fantastic probes for $17. I own a pair. Just want to help people make cheap probes nice and fast.

I just yesterday got my very first set of Probmaster 8017S gold probes and wow what a difference, like night and day and well worth the money. Overall quality of the wire, ends and contacts is way above most all others that have come with a meter. I have this same 8268 Mastech meter and mine also did not respond as well as my other meters did with the probemasters in the continuity test but its still noticeably better, and based on the excellent response from my other meters I have to think its due to the Mastech meter not being latched. My Anengs all respond very well to the Probemasters with fast clean continuity beep and lower resistance. I LOVE the Probemasters and will be buying more from them. I ordered direct from Probemaster and got lightning fast and free shipping.

I'm really glad you like the Probemaster leads..they really are great at making a good meter a great one! They are excellent for probing circuits and I'm using them almost exclusively now.

All quality probes will be Gold plated. Probe Master makes good stuff; if you go to their web site, you can also order up most any custom leads/ends combinations you can imagine.

Simply clean your probe tips with isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel or clean rage. The human ear would not be able to distinguish the speed of continuity connect between any of the probes. There is a fine film on the metal probe tips that protects them during shipping and storage before being sold. Hope this help you and others.

A couple of quick thoughts... stainless steel develops a surface 'passivation layer' (see 'Passivation (chemistry)' in Wikipedia), and often causes meter continuity to sound scratchy etc. However, stainless is cheaper. Stainless probes are better for punching through paint/rust & related spooge and no big loss if destroyed. Gold plated probes, like your Probe Master's are better suited for electronic solder joints & 'finer' work. Also, far as the plug ends go... the straight ends if banged around can break a meter jack, and should always be unplugged if/when transporting a meter. 90° plugs 'can' also break jacks, but are much less likely to do so. Don't ask how I know. Probe Master makes most any probe/plug/length combination imaginable, along with scope probes & related... all industrial quality. Take a look at their website. Reasonable prices too, and with proper care will last years on end 'Pomona' is another good Mfg of leads and the like.

I've found most new meter leads need a thorough cleaning before use. They seem to be covered in a clear protectant that can be removed with alcohol or circuit cleaner. It makes a big difference in contact continuity. My Fluke TL175 and ProbeMaster leads seem clean right out of the package and are both considerably higher quality than other leads I've used.

i should get a set of those... for my bench meter i end up cutting the shrouds off probes because that meter has ordinary banana jack inputs

Top notch probes. own a couple sets, replaced factory fluke leads with then, some of the new fluke leads are junk, that lead me to these. Made in America too.
