Back in the late 70s a mate of mine this identical motor. He had it on an old 14ft bonwood. It was affectionately known as the gangster boat. It reminded us of something out of an old black and white movie.
I see that it has a single line fuel system! Nice upgrade, like you said they are great motors... I currently have two of them, one is nice and tight and the other has a bit of slop in the connecting rods but still runs great. Thanks JP! I enjoy your videos.
@pryan05p71 It is because of one of these 5.5 OMC’s that not once, but twice I got back into the antique outboard hobby after getting rid of every engine I had. They just run so darn well. Those bushed rods sure like a 16:1 mix for the long haul. Thanks for watching. I’m just having fun with these things. I guess you are too!
I have one just like yours. It's sure not that fast but ir runs great. That old timer is the last year for the automatic reverse lock. First year for the clam shell opening hood. It is one of OMC's best! Thanks.
Hello, I'm from Brazil and I'm finishing restoring an engine like this. I would like to know what oil/gasoline ratio you use. And if it's mineral or synthetic? Thank you...
I bought a 63 10 hp Evinrude at the flea market a couple of years ago. I payed $40.00 for it. Both spark plug holes were shot. I had to get another head plus some other bits from ebay. It's realy fast.
Cool video! What size/type of boat? I recently restored a qd-15, pushes my little 11 foot flat bottom Grumman pretty quick, but looking to upgrade to a 14 foot v bottom aluminum jon boat to handle chop better and wondering about how fast this motor would push it. I’m not sure how fast I was going, but 27 mph is wild, didn’t even know that was possible with a 10 hp.
That thing sounds amazing. I love old machines.
@44thala49 me too!
What a classic! 27 MPH on 10 HP! Ya gotta love it!!!!
@NotchFox Back when men were men and engines put out. 😂💪
My dad bought one just like it in 1955. Ran it into the 1980’s when he gave it to a local kid who still runs it. Great motor😊
@eddiehaskell5578 👍 I’m not surprised it’s still going!
I remember seeing those quite often when I was a young boy back in the sixties. Nice to see one running like a champ !
@USNVA11 Thanks. They’re still around, and will be for a long time thankfully.
Wow thats one hell of a runner for sure
@scrapahaulik5893 It’s one of my favorites!

@GlenB1963 well it sure isn’t flashy, but it’s got some guts and gets the job done!
I had a 1954 Evinrude 5.5 to use on my 24ft sailboat, pushed it no problem against the Detroit River current and so reliable!
@dankennedy4763 those 5.5’s run so sweet!

@labradorguy5311 she’s a keeper!
I'm impressed, the old gal gets up and goes!
@ShopKatIndustries I find it hilarious that a brand new modern engine of the same hp rating won’t run any better or go faster.
Very cool !!😊
@InflatableBoatsOutDoors 👍🤙

@tatomontagnolli4454 Hello, and thanks for watching. The ratio is 16:1 and I use mineral based oil.
I wish I ran as well as this motor. We have the same birth year. Still have my original parts though:)
@marksmith9295 😂 heck, I wish I ran that well too!

@JD-hh9io I haven’t found a QD I didn’t like! Enjoy yours.
She's a runner for sure
@fleetwin1 💪
GO GO ! Fast old 10 HP ..
@rareform6747 great engine. It’s faster than any newer 9.9hps I’ve run on the same boat.
Idle sounded pretty clean, was ready to hear a cough.. Good job just fat enough!..
@terrypikaart4394 she’s in good health 👍💪

@@stuffandsuchyeah5182 I run all of my engines on a Sea Nymph 12K
what prop are you using?
@odie-v7j It’s a custom prop that I made from a banged up Michigan 2 blade. It’s nothing like it was originally and is tuned to this engine and boat.
