The way you explain things is on another level. The grabbing analogy when referring to the attack and release finally got me to fully understand. Your mixing back ground, teaching and beat making ability along with your age work in your favour big time! Keep it up bro you killing it
bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the way the way you explain this concept was amazing. i understood everything. i like the way you demonstrated the the way the compressor works using your hand. Your a fantastic teacher bruh. thats one of you strength
Omg the way you explain it make it sound so simple sheesh thank you! Imma try this as soon as I’m home. All I’m missing is that feeling in the kicks and bass in my mix if it was analog days I would be fine lol thank you! Def gonna follow
Dude u r amazing. I’m loving this tutorial. Very clear, especially regarding the influence compression has on the trancients. And u can hear and see the big difference with this 2 simple compression settings. Awesome
Setting a slow attack on a compressor to enhance the transient of a kick will normally result in a loss of low end. Something like a pultec eq after the compresor in your kick chain is normally needed. Unless you're going to use paralell compression which is ideal for exagerating your transients.
Great video. So much good info here... This is a great visual explanation of how attack time and threshold work. And really not trying to hate, but unfortunately your release time never really changes. You have the release time control set to automatic the entire video... which makes this particular plugin ignore the adjustments you made to the release slider. If you click on the ARC (Automatic Release Control...) button in the upper left it will turn blue and switch to manual and behave in the manner I think you actually described and intended here. Great video though with that one small caveat... Look forward to checking out some of your other content.
I was not taking into account the threshold on the process...there´s something that catches my attention, would you say that a fast attack with a long release would be better as well for an 808 maybe? Thanks!
I use a lot of waves plugins, I have horizon bundle from them. You can buy it on the waves.com site. Lots of free plugins out there that are great just read through some forums for free compressor vst's
I’ve been struggling to fit all elements of a song together. How do you make something like Rhodes just sit in the background while having other instruments blend in or stand out without being over bearing?
Usually something that is far away from you doesn't have a lot of high end and has more echo, You can use reverb and eq to shape a sound to sound more in the background maybe for bass a high pass filter could make a bass sound more soft and for a more higher/mid range sound maybe low pass filter could work so that it has less highs, It can also work the other way around, If you want to something to sound in your face it is usually volume matching and a lot of high end compared to other instruments that has less high end for example and also volume so that it is more far away volume wise , Also it is usually about contrast, If you want something to sound more in the background you have to use an instrument that is more in your face so that it contrasts between the two :) I hope that makes sense =D
I have a question, what is that plug in that you are using to analyze the waveform post compression? I'm kinda new to all of this so I don't know the types of plug ins, that particular one looks quite useful
I have a question. Why should we compress thing like kicks 808 etc.... When we buy a sample pack, does these samples are already mixed or something ? If i buy your sample pack, will all these sample be mixed or whatever ?
Thanks for your effort but I couldn’t hear one difference in any of the kicks. Seeing the frequency on a picture shows there’s a difference but if you can’t hear it what’s the point
How would you compress a bass if you want the bass to lead a track instead of the kick?, Say for example the bass doesn't have an attack, Btw really informative video once again!! Could you also make one for multiband compression? :D Thanks in advance!
If you want to set attack at a higher value and let the transient plays out before compressing happens, why bother compressing it in the beginning? I don't get it.
This channel underrated, No one explains it better than you ngl 💪🏻
S A L thank you so much! I appreciate you watching

Describing compression in terms of 'grabbing' is a very common way of talking about it.

I have a question. Why should we compress thing like kicks 808 etc.... When we buy a sample pack, does these samples are already mixed or something ? If i buy your sample pack, will all these sample be mixed or whatever ?
samples are usually mixed pretty well but you may want to mix them further more to fit in with your song
You make this look easy, thank you!
Thanks for your effort but I couldn’t hear one difference in any of the kicks. Seeing the frequency on a picture shows there’s a difference but if you can’t hear it what’s the point
