As many times I've been on youtube learning how to mix "properly" you just blow my mind with your approach to gain staging. It's stuff like this that keeps me from going hard on developing my youtube channel because one minute I learn how to do something and then want to possibly share it by building up through my channel the next I don't because BAM I run into a video like this because the other way I learned how to do a particular thing is totally different BUT your way is more effective than the previous way I learned and applied from somewhere else. Looks like form now own all my mixing knowledge is coming from you.
@@LifeStyleDidIt You right about that bro! I think what it boils down to is whatever i learn from you I apply it in my own way to my own projects and beats then in turn like everything else "pay it forward" by giving the game back to those who follow me and look to learn in the same way because I may find additional cool ways to utilize those same techniques in my sound and teach other that without having that feeling of just regurgitating info from someone else. One of the reasons I haven't came straight out the gate with the traditional "FL Tuts" because it's already so many with that provide those tutorials already like yourself there really is no need to put out the same beginner style teachings or tutorials, IMO
I was not going to watch this as it looked like too much was going on. Started from the beggining without skipping forward and then started laughing to myself as the underwater gem came about with the half time and not forgetting the drums bus section. Thank you so much man , I watch your videos every time without fail when I’m in the studio. keep up the work PLEASE! 💪🏼
I just stopped the video to comment. You should be proud of yourself. Seriously. I kick myself every day bc I didn’t commit more time to studying and perfecting my passion for music. There are several good channels that I watch for tips and information but I have made your channel my go to for my brain meals on music. Your videos are extremely useful and will certainly take ones creativity and production to a new level. Well done sir. Well done. Who knows what kind of skills you will have sharpened by the time you are my age.👏🤝 +k+
Something that can definitely help with those super punchy dynamic kicks is to lo-cut the clip mix. Letting the sub frequencies go through can help maintain a little more bass without having to fix it in EQ (which can suck after you've gotten a good loud clip)
Lifestyle dropping the secret sauce for everyone!! Seriously appreciate these gems, the way you explained gain staging in the other video and this one again was so helpful, Thank you man for real
This is a great tutorial and thank you so much!!! However, it's always best to mix and eq in context with the rest of the music instead of solo mode! Keep making great things!!
@@LifeStyleDidIt I'll always support you man there's a lot of things you taught me and I'm forever grateful to be where I am with my music thanks to you 💯💯
Gonna have to try that JST clipper plugin. Joey Sturgis is a legend for his mixing & production in metal. I like how you made use of a plugin geared to a completely different genre in hiphop. Good shit
Walk Among Kings we actually didn’t mean for that...😂 we made a really bad beat and then we were like “what if we slow it down?” And it saved us haha! But I love that we didn’t like it at first because it shows that not every beat is gonna be fire! And we just kept going and posted it because it was live on camera. But thank you so much!
honestly i didnt understand what tht plugin (clipper) did. drums went to loud but still meter read the same gain... what happened there i really wanna knw
I am so glad I found you on UA-cam. Many of your videos have really helped me progress with my thinking and with unique ideas. Best of luck with your channel, homie. Keep the awesome content coming. Thank again! 💪🏽

excellent knowledge once again. was wondering if you could do a video on getting your 808s to smack as well? mine never seem to hit as hard as the pros even when i use the same exact samples. has to be processing that im missing somewhere
thanks for the video man! i usually put a t-racks clipper on the master at the end of everything, idk, should i put also a soft clipper on the drum bus? or it would be 'overclipped'? same question with compression, i've hard that a little bit of compression on the drumbus (like 1 db or little more) helps creating more groove, but ik ill put compression on the master too, so idk, hope u will answer! videos lit

Tip - 1:40 control click to select all the different drum tracks in the mixer to route them to the drum bus all at once instead of going one by one
Ayy Lmao thanks for mentioning! I didn’t because sometimes the tracks aren’t linked in order they are scattered!
this is what sets your channel apart IMO. great stuff..been using your last few videos over the last few days

Man how much harder can my drums hit? you guys keep dropping gems. I’ve known about drum bus mixing but never did it before
Do engineers not mind having those drums on one wav instead of split up when they get the trackouts then?
Fiori in my next trick I’ll show you how to make the drums disappear 😂
