    Marriage today is struggling. Divorces, adultery, misconceptions, etc are plaguing not only the marriage itself but products of those marriages (my generation and the next). My hope in this poem is to highlight the most frequent and problematic issues marriages face today while also pointing to Jesus as the ultimate healer, redeemer, and restorer of every marriage. Whether single or married, my intention would be that this poem would allow you to look more deeply to Jesus to either better your current marriage, or prepare for your future marriage.

    I don't understand why there is so much hate on the comments for this video when there is so much truth in his message. I think it's a beautiful video.

      Religion isn't going to make you love someone that you wouldn't love otherwise, you cannot substitute Jesus for real chemistry. And you definitely can't rely on him to make your relationship healthier, since the Bible is filled with scripture that encourages husbands to treat their wives like property.

      Because people can’t separate religion and the lessons taught in the Bible. They think they’re too good to learn from wisdom passed down from millennia and can’t compartmentalize they aren’t being subjected to the wills of the church or other establishment. If only they could read it without getting triggered. Lol

      Because we have a guy who was unmarried at the time discarding basic facts about marriage and divorce rates to peddle his horseshit religion in an attempt to judge peoples relationships based on whether or not they believe in a bronze age fairy tale. Not that hard to understand the hate.

    Just to say, I actually really like the point where he says that "singles become friends first before ever becoming lovers" and the whole thing about " till death do us apart" being "until the feelings go away" and taking that perspective with their children.

    This is so deep... As someone who has survived abuse, I can honestly say - make Christ your foundation. Be secure and happy in who you are. Don't seek relationships or things to fill those empty spaces. Don't rush into a relationship. Develop the most important relationship first -- and that is between you and God. Thank you for sharing Jefferson!

      Amen. Everyone thinks marriage is a competition and they are rushing to jump the broom. 70% of marriages end in divorce. So to all single woman and men...wait on God. He has your life planned out and He has the person you need. Marriage isn't a race. While you wait build your relationship with God. Put him first and all things will follow.

      1/2 of all marriages in the US end in divorce. Look it up for yourself. Don't take my word for it. The point I was making was I feel ppl are not acquiring God or acknowledging him anymore. I speak to my Christian woman and men to put God first in all areas of life.

So I said alright Jesus I give you my life and my marriage if you are truly real make a change in me and my marriage! And He did I can sit here and say my marriage is better than ever and the love I thought I lost for my husband God has given me a love for my husband than I ever had before!

    You know, some of you leave some hateful comments on a video that speaks nothing but of love. If you're not religious, that's fine, but he's still making great points in this video. Open your mind, and stop taking your opinion as the only opinion that can be valid. That's called ignorance.

    • @TruXterJones

    • @Excarnificate
      @Excarnificate 10 років тому +7

      Ignorance does not mean someone thinking their opinion is the only valid one. Ignorance means lack of knowledge or information. Like you are ignorant to the very meaning of the word. This guy in the video is ignorant to the reality of marriage having never been married. He also makes no valid points. Spouting about fictional characters and trying to relate them to peoples sex lives and marriages is ridiculous. This guy does NOT speak of love, he speaks of control, submission and celestial authority. believe me there is a difference. Love does not require anything. No effort. No change. No sacrifice. No submission. It is unconditional. Unchanging. Offered freely. The fictional Jesus did not offer himself freely on the cross. We have to pay for that by giving our lives to him. Even after this we are still not offered love, which requires unconditional acceptance, we have to change, repent and try to control our"sins" even though we were just told all was cool Jesus died for that remember. If god really loved us and Jesus really paid the cost. we could receive this eternal life without even acknowledging him - now that's real love. Not the fake kind we are offered that's really a cover for a new form of control. This a video about control and submission - not love.

He still loves you reguardless and its free but its your choice to take it or not, you say its control but hes not forcing it on anyone its out there for you to chose to receive. And you say have eternal life without acknowledgement. Well how can you choose to accept something you aren't even paying attention to since you choose not to acknowledge it so therefore you don't even know its there.

      For your information I was a christian for over 20 years of my life. I know the bible. I have served in church. I know the innermost secrets of christianity. I reject them now because they are selfish and inconsiderate to the suffering of the world. the god of the bible is a racist, hateful, homophobic, misogynistic bastard who is a tryrant. Following that up with "But he loves you" is a slap in the face to every person he rejects because of his own design flaws. You are free to believe in this demonic character who doesn't even try very hard to pretend he is nice but i''ll pass thanks. I recommend you read your bible. Properly!

      I think it can be understandable that people have those negative feelings when the people claiming "God," "Jesus," and "religion" use their beliefs to bludgeon the beliefs of others. Rather than assuming people are misguided (and falling into an "us vs. them" mentality), why not instead examine their point of view? I think that would make the world a much better place.

    • @leonscott543
      @leonscott543 10 років тому +11

      Jay Gee The thing is, no one is attacking atheists. God intimidates atheists. Just the shear mention of God pisses off the enemy, and so that is why anger and frustration inevitably builds up in people when someone says Jesus

    • @jaygee514
      @jaygee514 10 років тому +9

      leon scott "No one is attacking atheist." I take it you haven't read stories of atheists run out of U.S. towns or that any mention of being atheist is a death sentence in some countries. Just recently Saudi Arabia declared all atheists as terrorists. And specifically in the U.S., high schooler Jessica Ahlquist was sent death threats for being atheist and opposing the posting a religious prayer in school. (Before you make assertions like that, please consider looking these things up. Google/your search engine of choice is at your fingertips.)
      Most atheists are not pissed off at God or the mention of God, but at the people who claim to be God's followers because although they say they are all about love tend instead to spread hate. WBC is an extreme example. Those people are also trying to enforce their narrow values on everyone. When they try to force people to mention God in everything, it gets annoying. I don't think you'll find one atheist who is intimidated by God because they don't believe he exists and can't exert any kind of power; however, I do think that some atheists are intimidated by angry Christian mobs because they are capable of actual harm.
      Well it was nice talking to you, but I don't feel like putting any more energy into this conversation. I won't be responding to any more replies. Have a good day.

      Jay Gee Duuuude great point my man, shiiit. That is not good Christians doing that shit. See Jesus was all about good relationships. The Christian order is all about control and shit. Yo fuck that shit. God is real though and God is love. Love is gravity. Christians that is in scripture by the way. Not the gravity part but God is love part. Yo thats crazy son. See thats when people want to control others because they are scared. Fear based consciousness. Not love. Fear blocks consciousness. Love expands it. Create s freedom. God is real and thats scientific and spiritual fact but killing and all that shit for some beliefs, dude that is so stupid. Thats not okay that they do that, however I understand because they are simply confused spirits. Not going to hurt me personally. Just dont cross the line yo with violence, if you do I will retaliate with force, that is my right as a human being, that is all of our rights as a human being to defend ourselves. I am a vehicle of peace, dont fuck with me. Feel me?

He's not saying people that don't believe in Jesus will have terrible lives he's saying that there's more to a life long relationship then selfish materialism passion and sexual desire. And if you choose to accept the idea of a higher power then that inspiration can help lead a healthy relationship into a beautiful partnership.

    Look, he isn't saying not believing in God will give a bad marriage to people. He's saying marriage isn't based on sex & lust. When you put you're marriage based on God it will help create a stronger bond between two people with God, if you believe in God. If you don't believe in God disregard this message because it has nothing to do with you? So why hate, really? This is to strengthen the Christian view on what marriage,love & sex really is to us. We aren't made to follow a role in a false fairytale.
    That's why today in the world it's so hard to fufill God's word because it is full on temptation really.

      +UnknownPenguin "because if your marriage rests on anything but Jesus, it's broken." --the truth is, I think, even according to a Christian perspective, that statement is more meant to rhyme than be taken seriously. Because in truth, according to the Bible, the fall caused everything to be broken. So I would really think that "even if your marriage rests on Jesus, it's still broken because we are all broken." In fact being a believer can cause you to see more brokenness around you than you did before, but you also have a different kind of hope. I don't think that this video represents Bethke well at all, and maybe now that he is married there are things he would change about it.

      Does it ever occur to you that maybe..they just grow apart? And don’t feel for each other what they once did? Does it occur to you that they would probably be better off and more happy out of an unhappy marriage than forcing themselves to stay in an unhappy marriage? Oh but I’m so sure “talking it out and working out their differences” is just gonna work wonders every single time. It doesn’t. And it doesn’t have to be about god, or else I guess in your case your trying to guilt people with the idea that “oh you want to leave a marriage I have nothing to do with, well what do you have to say about god, totally not my self insert, at the door shaking his head in disappoint, at the promise you made!”

    I really love this video ❤ and the poem especially. I remember my Dad was perfect when I was child. Then I grew up and realized all that was a lie. I knew he was a drunkard and forgave him for this, until I found out what he did with some ladies was more than a kiss. I was barely sixteen when I knew this reality. I was in a relationship with a bad guy I thought he had changed for me. With bad marks at school, dating two girls at the same time, and for bonus a drinker. But in terms of getting a girl, he is far from being a loser. I was a good girl, with good marks, religious and wise enough. We were attracted together -- at least that's what I thought. He changed for a while and made me believe we were meant to be forever. I've always been told that men act with infidelity, and the only way to get respected is keeping my purity. And what happened to me and my ex, he cheated on me because I didn't wanna have sex. Of course we broke up, and know I'm on my own. I don't want a bad man neither ending up alone. My mother has been cheated on, I've been cheated on. And my biggest fear now is that though I try to be the right person for someone, and keep my virginity before marriage, I still marry a liar and a cheater. However I want to get married. I think real Love is beautiful.
    God bless you and your holy work.

    Man brother good word I'm not sure if you will see or even read this comment but if you do I want to just say you have completely changed my walk with my Lord . I always beat myself up over my sin and have always been worried of where my soul will go when my life ends because of being worried I wasn't perfect enough for him even though I love God. my addictions always seemed to call back to me saying it's to big you are going to hell but now knowing I can just say God has taken that the Wight is lighter and now all I have to do is walk with him . So thank you for being an amazing Man for God and helping me let go of stuff that God's already taken care of .

    Amazing! When you do not truly know God, you do not know TRUE love. For God IS love. Love is not a box you check off on your grand scheme of life. It is a commitment to be there for your spouse, and sacrifice your own desires for theirs. If more Christians truly believed the Bible whole heartedly, and had a true RELATIONSHIP with the Lord, the divorce rate wouldn't be so high.

      Love exists outside religion, every human has it you could argue bc God made men and they've got free will. The devotion to God doesn't single it out and everyone else is devoid, like the bible says God shines the sun on everyone not just his followers, and let's it rain on all. He doesn't discriminate.

    My bf is an atheist and I am catholic, but we became friends first, well we just started to date, nothing too serious we just really became close fast not because of lust, but because we connected. Now, I donʻt think it would be any different if God was in our lives or not. We both have the same values and morals, he just happens to not think God exists and Iʻm ok with that, he respects that I believe and thats what counts.

      The only truth is what we can physically sense, you and those around you can cause your mind to think it's feeling something when it really isn't. I wish more people would appreciate the life they have and stop trying to give credit to something illogical like a god for all their good fortune. You have one life, stop trying to save yourself for another that may or may not be there. I believe that doing good is something everyone should be involved in and that doing good has it's own reward. Instead of living for god, you should live it for you and those around you. A god is meaningless unless you give it meaning.

    Marriage existed long before even the vaguest idea of Jesus ever did, and it has had countless different forms. So, no, Jesus is not the foundation of marriage unless _you_ decide to involve it. It would be for _your_ marriage, not everyone's marriage.

    • @mrsginny
      @mrsginny 7 років тому +3

      Marriage started with Adam and Eve, who were the first people and walked with God daily. So when exactly was there a time when marriage didn't involve Jesus?

    • @deimoskaischylos
      @deimoskaischylos 7 років тому +5

      Virginia Rasberry
      That is silly. Adam and Eve is purely mythological, unless you can prove otherwise. The exact moment anything viewed as "marriage" first existed is still largely debated. Some believe the first man to woman union was held in Mesopotamia in 2350 BCE. However, there are also various marriage rituals that exist within Chinese and native cultures which may have existed at roughly the same time. The Chinese also have "ghost marriages," and many native tribes had forms of same-sex union. Why, it is almost as if marriage is something as varied and complex as humanity itself, and no one group has claim over it.

    • @mrsginny
      @mrsginny 7 років тому +2

      On what basis can you say that Adam and Eve weren't real? All you have is your opinion. And Christians have a monopoly on the modern idea of marriage because they were the ones who created it. There have been humans pairing up forever, but real marriage is from and for God.

    • @deimoskaischylos
      @deimoskaischylos 7 років тому +2

      Virginia Rasberry You, also, only have your opinion that they are real, as the Bible is not factual: it is all a book of opinion--of subjective beliefs. Again, no, Christians did not create marriage, modern idea or otherwise. Many groups held similar concept of marriage, and it was actually Christians who held on to the archaic concept of marriage as nothing more than an exchange of property for the longest, even if not by much and even if encouraged more by religious leadership of the time more than anything. You have no claim to modern marriage, and to state otherwise is egotistical. The very concept of a union between two or more people belongs to the global community, and it takes countless forms.
      So far, I've actually cited _some form_ of information to back up my claims; to point in the direction of something tangible. You've merely stated that your subjective beliefs are your proof for these statements being fact. Things do not work that way. Your feelings and beliefs do not change reality. So, unless you wish to back up your assertions with some form of verifiable proof, then I feel that we are done here.

    • @mrsginny
      @mrsginny 7 років тому +1

      You've cited biased reports from people who are hellbent on not accepting the truth. To believe that the Bible is purely fictional is completely absent of reality and illogical. I sir ask you to question your beliefs because when put under scrutiny they seem to fall flat.

      To go against your argument which by the way is reasonable. Many of us Christians were put to death for our beliefs, and it was literally illegal to only believe in our God and yet we did so, but we are fearful now because we have people are telling us that our religion is offensive and not politically correct. You can do what you want but I believe in the one true king, the "Alpha and Omega" you could say. But know this; our path is becoming increasingly difficult with more against us and others who are not even doing it right. Being a True Believer is harder than walking a path of unknown. Trust me.

Second, having watched a number of this dude's videos I can tell you he NEEDS to pick up a science book so as to ascertain an elementary child's understanding of the world at least. Finally, accepting people, or tolerating, however you want to look at it, saying "hey the things you're saying are batshit insane." As such, I say "the things this dude is saying is batshit insane" and I add to it saying that its because of the shit he "preaches" he's is causing "terribadness".

      Jefferson Bethke: My parents have been happily married for 26 years. Earlier in their marriage, my mother was surprised and irritated to find she and my father were the topic of their work place's Christian group. The group was discussing how my parents could have such a strong marriage without Christ. My father is a former Catholic, and my mother was raised agnostic, so religion has never been part of our family life. Yet, my parents have never fought, never hit my sister or I, and have taught us values. People I meet sometimes assume I'm religious. Like my mother before me, this I find this both annoying and disturbing. We have light and love within us. We need no religion, and to tell us that our world and relationships will crumble without Christ seems both arrogant and narrow-minded. Please look into the world and see the people who are living happily without being Christian. I think you may be surprised. Enough, perhaps, to stop telling us that we are deficient.

      John Chapter 14 a certain man said to Jesus: Show us God, and Jesus said: If you have seen me you have seen God. Now without reading on the Christian will say: See Jesus claimed to be God, he said if you have seen me you have seen God. If that is crystal clear then you have a difficult portion when you go back just a few pages to Chapter 5 when another man came to Jesus and said show us God and he said you have never seen God you have never heard his voice. Now what did he mean there if on the other occasion he meant that he was God? Obviously you have made matters difficult by deciding what the first one meant. If you read on in Chapter 14 you will see what he went on to say. He was saying the closest you are going to seeing God are the works you see me doing.

      the christian teaching now , is the church man made not jesus peacebe upon him teaching , the trinity was not preached by none of the prophets
      The man was a teacher. He taught the Law of Moses. He was impressed to see Jesus answering the questions of hypocrites and heretics with wisdom:
      “One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, ‘Of all the commandments, which is the most important?’”
      He felt it was his opportunity to ask Jesus, the Great Teacher, what was the most important commandment, how he can be saved, enter life and the Kingdom of God.
      Now, we need to shed all our biases, everything we have been taught in Sunday schools, and all the teachings of mortal men. All who love Jesus should let him talk:
      “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”
      A great answer to a great question: accept the Lord our God is One, love Him, and worship Him to the best of your ability.
      Jesus was not finished. He had more to teach. Obviously Jesus was teaching the man everything he needed to get into the Kingdom of God. Jesus added:
      “…The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
      The Great Teacher further clarified:
      “There is no commandment greater than these.”
      The man who questioned Jesus repeated the commandments to make sure he got them right:
      Mark 12:32 “‘Well said, teacher,’ the man replied. ‘You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him…’”
      Jesus seeing the man had learned the greatest commandment correctly gave him the good news:
      Mark 12:34 “When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’”
      There are some significant lessons in this story:
      First, Jesus taught the man more than he asked, yet he did not say he is the son of God, or the Savior sent to redeem mankind of its sins. He did not say anything remotely similar to what people are instructed to repeat to be ‘born again’ in Christ, “You should individually receive me, accept me as the Son of God, your personal Lord and Savior who will die on the cross for your sins and will rise from the dead. Let the Holy Spirit fill you…”
      Take what Jesus said and leave what people have added.
      Second, salvation depends on this commandment. Jesus made it clear when another man approached Jesus to learn from him (Mark 10:17-29). The man fell on his knees and said to Jesus:
      Mark 10:17-18 “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus replied: “Why do you call me good? No one is good - except God alone.”
      Third, Jesus confirmed there is no commandment greater than these. In case, someone might think the greatest commandment changed afterwards, Jesus told us:
      Matthew 5:17-19 “For assuredly, I say to you, till the heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no mean pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
      Fourth, anyone who loves Jesus and wants to enter life must keep the greatest commandment of Jesus as he said:
      John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
      Matthew 19:17 “If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.”
      Fifth, a sincere Christian should accept what Jesus said without twisting his words or finding hidden meaning in them. Jesus taught exactly what Moses taught some 2,000 years before him:
      Deuteronomy 6:4-5 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
      Jesus, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, taught the same eternal truth ALL the prophets of God taught to their people: God is One, worship Him alone.
      Deuteronomy 6:13 “Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only and take your oaths in His name.”
      Deuteronomy 5:7 “You shall have no other God besides Me.”
      Isaiah 43:11 “I even, I am your Lord and besides Me, there is no Savior.”
      Hosea 13:4 “I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no savior except me.”
      Psalms 95:6-7 “O come, let us bow down and worship, let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker. For we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His voice and He is our God.”
      Jesus emphasized this teaching to Satan as well:
      Matthew 4:10 “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.”
      Sixth, the Quran confirms the greatest commandment of Jesus. The Quran teaches us exactly that God sent all the prophets with the same teaching: to worship the One true God alone.
      “…And your God is One God: there is no god but He…” (Quran 2:163)
      “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him...” (Quran 17:23)
      “And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We revealed to him (saying): ‘none has the right to be worshipped but I, so worship Me.’” (Quran 21:25)
      Seventh, on the Day of Resurrection, the Quran tells us that God will ask Jesus:
      “And [beware the Day] when God will say, ‘O Jesus, Son of Mary, did you say to the people, ‘Take me and my mother as gods besides God?...’” (Quran 5:116)
      Jesus will respond:
      “He will say, ‘Limitless are You in Your glory! It was not for me to say that to which I have no right. If I had said it, You would have known it. You know what is within myself, and I do not know what is within Yourself. Verily, it is You alone who fully knows all the things that are beyond the reach of a created being’s perception. I said not to them except what you commanded me - to worship God, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them as long as I was among them; but when You took me up, You alone had been their keeper:’ for You are witness unto everything. If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants; but if You forgive them - indeed it is You who is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.” (Quran 5:116-118)

    What he is saying by if your marriage rest in anything but Jesus it is broken he means that if the foundation of your marriage is not like Jesus where Jesus dies for his bride the church then it is something broken. Lets put Jesus aside. A marriage needs the love of two people where the bond is so strong one would die for the other. He is not saying be a christian and you will instantly have a successful marriage.

      Look at it this way. the manufacturer of a car is the only one that knows the true of the car. You might think your having a nice ride till something goes wrong. Then you have to look at the manufacturer for help either through the manufacturer or the car dealer. Because the true secret of the life of that car lies in the hands of the manufacturer. Until a marriage crash who can a person go to. God is the manufacturer of marriage and the one that can give the true joy of marriage. Do not mistake happiness for joy

    • @kagomeLovesInuyasha3
      @kagomeLovesInuyasha3 8 років тому +6

      Ehhh, yeah no. The only people who can make our marriage work is the two of us. We shouldn't rely on something that nobody can see or hear or feel to guide us. We got married because we love each other. That will help us through hard times, it already has and we've come out stronger for it. We are responsible for what happens to us. We don't believe in god and therefore "he" has no standing in our marriage, I'm glad that other people are able to make things work because of god but it's not for everyone. If a relationship is meant to be, it's meant to be. I don't think believing in god will change that.

      truth is a matter of perception as well as facts, one mans truth can be another mans fable. When somebody truly thinks something is the truth, than that is the reality to them, contrary to what other people might think and say. History has showed just how marriage was treated back in the age of ignorance, but people again, can perceive this as a lie. The truth is in there minds eye more than it is in a history book, and many twist the words of the past to suit there own wants.

      We could talk about the fact that people trying to impose their religion on everyone else violates the American Constitution (I'm British and I clearly know that particular document better than most Americans). We could talk about how what this video basically says is that if you don't have Jesus in your life, your marriage will fail, which is effectively hate speech. Now, I would argue that we have don't have a right to not be offended - that's the essence of freedom of speech. But whenever an atheist says "Hang on, you can't have special rights", Christians come down on them with the 'oppression' argument.
      Also, UA-cam is on the internet. The internet is for the world, not just your part of it. You might want to become aware that America is a pitiful excuse for a 1st world country comparative to Scandinavian countries or Germany.
