Bev is amazing. It’s very refreshing to see a parent dig deep and get the help they need to move forward in a positive direction in their life.

I love to see Bev, an older woman, giving opinions/ sharing wisdom Mainstream, we don't see enough women being themselves.
    Love your work Mayim.

Everytime Bev talks and acknowledges mental illnesses I almost feel like crying. I have BPD and OCD but my mother doesn't believe in them, I can't talk about it without her getting mad and verbally abusive. She's in her 60s so because of the way she was brought up it's very hard for her, she doesn't even believe in therapy and thinks I'm just wasting money. Thank you Bev for showing that everyone can learn and be respectful about mental illnesses. Much love from Italy.

I'm Sicilian 98%. And my fam had a hard time with me becoming a psych nurse...my uncle was a psychologist and they couldn't understand us. They were born in NY but had old country beliefs and attitudes. When I was diagnosed with Bipolar it took my mother yrs to accept it and never noticed my suffering from age 12...sad

@@sicilyny5375 I'm very sorry for what you went through, I'm 100% Italian, born and raised here so you can imagine how hard it is here, almost everyone is like my mom. Especially the older generation.

I simply love how much I learn about all three of you during the Bevisodes! ♥️ totally off topic My husband Allan (nickname The Curmudgeon) who passed in March 2020) was so critical of movie’s & judgmental about everything and everyone! My personality is more ultra romantic and optimistic about the world… so we were perfect for one another as the other half that we were missing!
About a year & a half before he died ( he had not gotten ill yet) I said to him one day “oh my goodness Allan! You do not have to judge everyone and everything!” With a smirk & dripping with sarcasm he says “Oh but Tamra… I DO!” He remains in my head daily! Talking me through things and busting my chops!♥️ I am thankful even when I am sad.

Hearing Bev's point of view is so soothing in a way. like we are all learning new terms together every day as they are introduced in conversations and it's okay to process them in our own way and take our time making our own opinion, before just checking out or diving into a topic in whole.

Her comments are so intriguing and insightful!!! that they often have me going back to either re-listen to a podcast or she inspires me to listen to a podcast that I might not have been compelled to put the time into....so thank you Mayim (and... ) ...i can imagine the challenges (and blessings) that you both, but especially Mayim feels/go through for the bevisodes!!!! I love this episode because it touches on a topic I was going to submit for one of your giveaway videos, Mayim. I chose not to submit the video because I felt like I struggled with the words to adequately express what I was trying to say. Anyway, in my video, I talked about my relationship with my mom and how it is similar to your relationship with Bev. I find it interesting that two people who have the same experience look at it through the scope of a different lens. The difference in my relationship my with my mom versus your relationship with Bev is that my mom and I are estranged. Sometimes, two people who have experienced the same things cannot respect each other's viewpoint and it's best that they part ways. I tend to reside in the realm of reality, while my mom tweaks experiences to justify her poor actions. No longer being in contact with my mother has made my life richer and has been vital to my mental recovery. Thank you for touching on the fact no two people are the same.

"People who are homeless, who do they talk to?" Oooooh girl don't get me started! I've been housed, but I spent 2 years on the streets into the beginning of the pandemic. Mental health was my ONLY priority, and it was demanded that I seek mental health treatment as a contingency of my stay at places like shelters and day centers. And yet it was absolutely inaccessible in so many ways. It was a complete joke.

I love a Bevisode! And Mayim seemed more comfortable with this one, which was nice to see. In re leg shaking: my dad, brother, and I all did it. I don’t as much as an adult as I did as a kid; however, I find that at age 66, diagnosed just 10 yrs ago with ADHD, cPTSD, and NVLD (read about it via articles featuring Chris Rock from when he got diagnosed) that certain objects, mostly hard ones with edges like faceted beads, really help me to hold or fidget with. As a young child I used to fall asleep making a crease in my bedsheet and rolling it between two fingers. And although I stopped doing that sort of thing as an older child - probably suppressed it - now I let myself indulge, when appropriate, because I better understand how it helps me. Glad that in current times there’s more understanding and acceptance.

I've learned walking in forgiveness allows me to detach from the emotional baggage of childhood . As a matter of fact the telling of stories about it doesn't emote the same passion it used to . Many of those incidents don't live anymore . I'm able to relate the lessons I've learned without going back. Forgiving myself liberated me from guilt that wasn't even mine and the guilt that was

I ❤️ Bev, i could listen to her every day; wish she had a podcast. I am also a leg shaker 🙄, mostly at work - to me it's maintaining "idle" (like a car), so i can zoom to max effort at a moment's notice; as opposed to starting from total relaxation. I can see the component of anxiety etc. but it is a relatively harmless quirk ( or is it? 😂)

Being a grandparent is so different from being a parent. It's our turn for just the fun and joy without parenting stress. My sin complains about the same thing. They tell him how much fun we had and he says " she's not that nice". He, of course, feels he was a delight growing up. Your mom is a delight to watch! We went without livinroom furniture for 5 years when we moved to our new house. So we all had issues at home. At leastvyou had the floor in the kitchen.

I do the shaking leg thing too. My mom has a video of me at 9 months shaking my leg. It is a totally ingrained habit I have stopped noticing until someone points it out. In grade 6 my teacher suddenly said, "woah! The floor is shaking! Is there an earthquake?" I suddenly notice my right leg shaking away under my desk. I stop it. And she says," never mind it stopped." I was mortified. Lol

I'd like to hear her talk about that and how she got through that, what she learned from that time, working for a family friendly brand and living your own life while growing up with choices that clashed.

Us being a mixed race couple was hard for him, his family and all of CA. This was 1992...my family were fine with him until he became horrible to me and our kids. It's called "Slave Mentality" that gets passed on thru generations. I know ALOT about this. Studied it as Pan African minor and lived through it.
