Think you have what it takes to be a neurosurgeon? I grew up playing video games and always wondered if they could help my hand-eye coordination...what are some of YOUR favorite video games??
As a 1st year neurosurgery resident from Brazil, I find this video very helpful. Wish there was something like that before I entered residency... Anyway, I'll start playing videogames today ;)
Hi Dr Rutkowski, I think that it would be wonderful to hear about your path from High School to neurosurgery, especially as somebody who decided upon their specialty so early. (I am a high school student and aspiring neurosurgeon myself)
Hi, Dr. Martin! I'm still in high school, now entering 9th grade. During the previous academic year, I was set on becoming a neurosurgeon. I don't know how it happened, it just happened. I'm a really curious kid and I really wanted to know more about different organs, especially the brain. I'm still 13 but my passion for this field has been burning up ever since. I'm learning in advance and definitely getting all the exposure I need. There are a few neurosurgeons in the Philippines though, unlike in other countries so I can't really reach out to anyone. I have been watching these kind of videos and really hoping to come across a local neurosurgeon. My parents are very supportive but they keep asking if I will change my mind about this. I know it takes a very long time but I know it will be worth it. I'm very dedicated and I'm open to making mistakes in order to learn more. Your videos serves as my inspiration. Thank You. I hope to come back to this video as a medical student or a resident. ;))
Thank you Dr.Rutkowski for sharing such shoe leather insight. My 13 year old son has wanted to be a doctor since he was 4, and so I find the content in your channel to be priceless. Thank you abundantly for being so simple and yet profound.
Invaluable insights Doctor! I found this video helpful in nuances I wouldn't even think of. Now I'll really try to shadow a local hospital Neurosurgeon somehow.
The coolest and greatest doctor i know. Please dont stop making videos, im actually studying to be a neurosurgeon in France and your videos are so helpfull and inspiring
Hei doctor! I really appreciate your contents, they are really helpful. Currently I am in high school and trying hard to be like you. You inspire many people like me. Thank you 😊
@@martinrutkowskimd3709 thank you! I was accepted to an MD/PhD program and just wanted to ask, will the huge amount of research done during my PhD help for neurosurgery residency applications?
We have all heard the memes and the stories of Neurosurgeon lifestyle and their rigorous lifestyle they go through via their residency. In your experience as an Attending in academics do the stories hold true or is it just too much of a multi variable situation with every circumstance being different ? BTW thanks for your time out of your busy day, The videos have been good especially this one and Brain fluid leak ! All the best & success for you and your family these holidays & beyond !!!
Amazing video! Would you consider making a video about how you manage your time as a neurosurgeon both inside and outside medicine? Would love to learn from the best
Hi Doctor, do you have a video where you share your journey on how you became a neurosurgeon? 😁 And if not, any plans for it? Would be super interesting and motivating. Thanks!
Hello Dr. Rutkowski, I have been watching your videos and thoroughly enjoy them. I am an aspiring neurosurgeon and am in my last year of high school. I would love to get in contact with you. Is there any way I can speak to you about your experience and pathway from undergraduate to medical school to residency? Thank you so much.
Great Video Dr. Rutkowski. Thank you for your advices. I have a question, how an IMG can get involve in neurosurgery clinic experience or be eligible for research in US. Which is the profile the IMG must have? (Not residency but more specifically for clinical rotation and research rotation in USA). Again, thanks for your videos. Your youtube videos are getting better everyday. These videos are great inspiration for continuing the grind and fighting for reaching that goal someday. Happy Thanksgiving. Greetings from Ecuador.
Awesome video! Is there any bias towards non-traditional medical students/residents? I'm a career changer, working full-time and taking my pre-reqs part time to hopefully start medical school in 2025. I'd love to consider neurosurgery but I'd be graduating medical school at about age 40.
Hi! Sir, I hope you are doing well. Actually, I want to discuss the medical condition of my mother related to neurology and need your advice. Can you help me in this regard? Looking forward to hearing from you.
This is fantastic! What are your thoughts on taking off time for research AFTER medical school, though? Maybe undertaking a PhD? I’m in an undergraduate MD program, so I can’t really participate in graduate-level research. Would it be worth the time to do so after I graduate, but before I apply for a residency?
That wouldn’t be a good year to take time off. I think programs would prefer to see research done earlier, especially because it can take a while to publish.
As an IMG who failed and repeated two years during med school, but interested and hoping to get into neurosurgery. Is there still a chance for me? Can you please guide me and tell me how can I increase my chances? really appreciate your help
As a medical student at a school without a neurosurgery department, do you believe that working with private practice neurosurgeons in the area can be as beneficial as working with academic based surgeons? Do LOR from these physicians “hold less value” than academic surgeons?
I think if you have meaningful experience with them (not just shadowing, but actually working alongside them on rounds, the hospital, OR, etc), then their letters may be helpful. But it's tough to beat the support of a neurosurgeon with clout in an academic department. I think that should always be your primary goal.
Hi Eva, I've had friends that got a relatively late start in college, then med school, but made it happen. I can't speak to the Russian process, but in the US there are different routes to take so long as you are driven. Best to you in your pursuits, my friend. 🕊️❤️🙏🌈
