@Bruno - I think she's suggesting using canned coconut milk instead of regular milk with the cake mix before baking to infuse even more coconut flavor to the cake itself. But if anyone has tried that Coco Lopez cream of coconut before it is MUCH more strongly coconut flavored than regular coconut milk. It is most often used for those super coconutty mixed drinks like pina coladas. It's intense. So having that all through the middle of the cake through the fork holes is plenty. I made another very similar coconut cake with this Coco Lopez before (for a Moana-themed birthday for my little girl) and it was the most coconut-flavored, moist delicious thing! I had forgotten about it until seeing her open the can in this video! We'll be making this version tomorrow. 🙂
@@dorigutman6217your right. She was saying using coconut milk in the cake batter. Your also right about the coconut cream being plenty of coconut flavor. A Moana themed bday party sounds so cute and coconut flavored cake would have been perfect.
That looks delicious, I'm gonna make it in a couple days for company. I don't ever use cool whip anymore I make my own with cream. Sooo much better for you and much tastier. My family loves it.
This is a fabulous cake! I almost never use cake mix, I think they taste fake. But in this recipe, cake mix tastes like heaven! Add a little vanilla extract to help boost the natural flavor, and use melted butter like Catherine does in the video. I also never use cool whip - only natural whipped cream, please! - except in this cake. It is so easy, holds up well in the fridge, and tastes divine! If you like coconut, this cake will be a crowd pleaser.
Have you tried Trader Joe's vanilla cake mix? It doesn't have that fake taste. Also, if you do use a cake mix, always substitute butter for oil and milk or half and half for water and it makes a big difference! Agree about never using cool whip, but I see how this would work for a lot of people just trying to whip out a dessert for friends and family!
I have made this for a long time but I add a can of crush pinapple after the cream of coconut and before icing. It make a delicious pineapple coconut cake. You must try it.
Just found this video. I love coconut. My Dad was in the South PACIFIC during WWII. He had never eaten coconut and his first introduction was ripened on the tree. He bought us fresh coconut every year. I cannot wait to make this.

I made this yesterday. My husband raved about it so much that he picked this as his birthday cake next month. It was"delish." Going to try the banana poke next. Glad I found you!!❤
I would leave a strip of cake with the cool whip but not the coconut so those in my family who don't like coconut texture can still enjoy the cake. Yummo!!
I love coconut i grow up eating coco every week i come from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 we have 2 coco palms 🌴 in our back yard and my father used to go up to get the coco the young coco are delicious i miss those days😢😢😢😢
I've been making this for at least 40 years and the Cream of Coconut has always been in the liquor aisle at my Walmart and the grocery stores I used to buy it from. I already planned last week to make it for the missionaries. I had to laugh when this popped up on UA-cam tonight.

Also, I added 1 teaspoon of coconut extract to the batter along with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Attempt 3: Batter a as prepared as above with butter instead or oil, milk instead of water, 1 teaspoon of coconut,1 cup of finely shredded coconut to the mix as well as 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and ginger. Love spices! Topping used 1 1/2 cans coconut milk and 1/2 can of condensed milk and topped with cool whip and 1 cup coconut flakes. We liked version 3, the best, and the condensed milk was not as Iverson bearing and rich. Far far better, especially if you are a coconut lover like us! We are coconut-ed out at the moment, but in the near future, I do plan to try our version 3, but with a chocolate cake mmic! Perhaps if you would prepare the cake using the tines of a fork instead of the wooden spoon the condensed milk might not be too overpowering. Just a thought. But thanks for your feedback so I won't use the spoon myself. Lol!

Try using the spray on just the bottom of the pan not the sides. The cake can “climb” easier and will be higher. Use a sharp knife if needed to release when cooled. Works! 🎂🍰

Very nice. Have you tried toasting the coconut before putting on the cake? I think that might make it tastier and prettier! I'm going to try this. Thank you for sharing!
I tried this recipe at home and my daughter loved it. Your instructions were so simple to follow. I absolutely love it. I'm going to try another of your recipes.
So many recipes call for cheese, but I have a friend who is not crazy about cheese. So when I fix a recipe that calls for a shredded cheese topping I put cheese on half of the dish and substitute buttered bread crumbs on the other half. Now I am not suggesting you put buttered bread crumbs on the cake, but hubby might prefer that you simply not add the coconut to his portion. Today my brother was just talking about wanting a coconut cake. I will definitely have to make your recipe for him. It looks delicious!
My sister just made this. After not having power for twi days here in Texas..it was the best treat! Moist, delicious and coconutty! Thanks Catherine! We love your videos!
Oh my gosh. I was drooling while you were making it and then while you were eating it. My grown son loves anything coconut (even has coconut scented soap in his bathroom!)-he will just love it! Thank you !
I haven’t had a coconut cake in a long time I’m trying this one my daughter is allergic to coconut so I stopped making them but now that she’s married with her own family I can start making them again and this one I’m definitely going to make

Catherine, I think you hit the nail on this one! I love COCONUT Cake.. It's a family FAVORITE.. and forget about that PEPERAGE farm! ..the way you put together that CAKE looks SIMPLE enough to put together as well. I'm sure that it TASTES 100 times BETTER too! Anyhow, I have a SCRATCH recipe for Cake but with the same idea and METHODS you used .. I'm so excited to find a easier method that's Simple and not so complicated. Appreciate it. Thank you Catherine for SHARING. Can't wait to try it and Share with others!🤗🌻😋🏡👍
Made this tonight with pineapple cake and crushed pineapple on top instead of the coconut. Everyone loved it. Thank you Catherine’s plates! Man, that cream of coconut and condensed milk mixed together is delicious😋
I am diabetic but I would be sincerely tempted to have some of this cake anyway. I love coconut cream pie too, piled mile high with real whipped cream.
This looks amazing, I love all things coconut! You should keep a few pieces at the end with no flaked coconut for your husband. LOL I used to have to do that with cakes I sprinkled pecans on, because my son hates pecans. I used to work in a bakery, we would use melted butter for richness in cakes unless it was a cake that had to be refrigerated, then we used oil, because butter becomes solid in the fridge and it can make your cake very dense, oil will keep a lighter texture. But, if not refrigerated then definitely use butter for the richness. This cake wouldn't matter since it is a poke cake, but just thought I would throw that information out.
That is some really great feedback. I never knew that it made a difference. Co if your using butter don't refrigerate and using oil can refrigerate. Thank you for the heads up.🙂
Listening to you guys say 3 MILK CAKE was rhe highlight of my evening! Both had different pronunciations, but I love how you adore one another and the taste of culture!!! Happy baking

Super delicious recipe. I love coconut cake and everything that have coconut. The only think I will add here 1-2 tsp Rum inside the mixture of coconut with condensed milk. That will be AWSOME FLAVOR. Then cover like she did.

Wonderful! I'm glad everyone liked it.
That cake looks awesome from Republic of Ireland living in London United Kingdom
Hello from Texas. This cake was so delicious, my family enjoyed.
I tried this recipe at home and my daughter loved it. Your instructions were so simple to follow. I absolutely love it. I'm going to try another of your recipes.
I haven't come across a bad one yet.
Mmmm, mmmm, this recipe looks so decadent, rich and delicious!!🥥🍰 Thank you for sharing!!👍⚘🍰
I love COCONUT "everything".
My husband didn't want me to do half with and half without, he wanted it to be a full coconut cake for the video.
My sister just made this. After not having power for twi days here in Texas..it was the best treat! Moist, delicious and coconutty! Thanks Catherine! We love your videos!
Wonderful! It was sure nice to have the power fully back on after the cold cold week. :)
I just gained 5lbs watching this video!!! You are the best🌹
LOL!
Made your coconut poke cake for a potluck. Several people asked for recipe. Referred them to your UA-cam channel.❤️
Awesome! Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh. I was drooling while you were making it and then while you were eating it. My grown son loves anything coconut (even has coconut scented soap in his bathroom!)-he will just love it! Thank you !
I absolutely love anything coconut! You made my mouth water watching this! I gained 5 pounds! Lol. ❤ from Missouri everyone.
That is awesome! Thanks so much for watching.
Made this today using real whipping cream which took it to the next level of deliciousness! Thanks Catherine, I enjoy your video's.
I haven’t had a coconut cake in a long time I’m trying this one my daughter is allergic to coconut so I stopped making them but now that she’s married with her own family I can start making them again and this one I’m definitely going to make
Hope you enjoy this recipe. It was so moist and very delicious.
We love coconut cream anything, thanks for the receipt.
This recipe looks delicious and easy. I love coconut cakes, definitely going to make this. Thanks for the egg tip also.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves coconut.
I’m not a coconut fan but my husband would love this cake❤️
awesome. thanks so much for watching.
I was thinking the exact thing. I want to start baking for him because he has an immense fondness for sweets and this would be cheaper and he really deserves it. I like cooking more than baking but her videos look very helpful for keeping it pretty simple yet delicious.
Looking so forward to trying this. Thank you!!!!!!
This is going to be one of my favorite desserts! I really enjoy coconut and this pushes every delicious button!!! Oh yeah!!👍😋🍰🥥🥥🍽
It sure is delicious, sometimes it's hard to stop.
Thanks for watching and the tip.
That is some really great feedback. I never knew that it made a difference. Co if your using butter don't refrigerate and using oil can refrigerate. Thank you for the heads up.🙂
Us Hispanic people would buy the white coconut cake for Mother’s Day celebration but this would be better.
It’s easy & I believe it has more flavor.
Listening to you guys say 3 MILK CAKE was rhe highlight of my evening! Both had different pronunciations, but I love how you adore one another and the taste of culture!!! Happy baking
Our pleasure!
Pronounced Tray Lechay in Spanish! LOL
I love coconut anything. This is next on my to make list.
