- Being fed up with the weaknesses & drawbacks of my current cycling glasses - a specific ride made me realise that photochromic lenses were what I needed.
But combining these with my requirement for bifocal prescription lenses meant a long search on the web with that combination very hard to find .
Bifocals are essential as opposed to varifocals which were readily available - just an opinion which is explained in the video.
Finally I came across Optilabs who saved the day and came up trumps .

Thanks for posting this review. I've just had my second cataract op and had come to the same conclusion about what lenses i need and was already looking at Optilabs. Seeing your review has confirmed my thinking and removed any uncertainty I had 👍

I have photochromatic (off Uv) single prescription...thinking about bifocals. Are the photochromic type of yours, ones that works off UV or would they wirk while driving a car?
Hi, a great question which led me to contact Optlabs. Mine react to UV so don't react so well behind a car windscreen but until very recently "transitions" lenses on bifocal were available which do work when driving but they have a temporary issue in getting hold of these so have removed the option. If Varifocals are required though then Transitions lenses can still be ordered.
I use Optilabs, fantastic after sales customer service. I had problems with the optical insert breaking they replaced them with no hassle within a week.
I’ve since got a pair of direct glazed, photochromic, vario focal, I agree with you these are much better. I’ve personally never had any issues with the vario focal lenses. Great company 👍🏼

I’ve been using Optilabs since 2009. Now on my third pair of prescription sunglasses. I usually go for Photochromic but my latest pair are Mirror lenses, as I thought they looked better, but I’ll go back to Photochromic next time. They often have a £20 off sale around Christmas time or just after.
I bought mine just before the sale ! Impressed though as you can probably tell 😁
Was just wondering what colour tint you went for?
They do brown, green or grey.
I think brown sounds the best
Brown seems nice, but these details are purely personal preference and I went for Grey 👍

From a colour perspective I think it's a personal thing for sure.
I asked because there's a slight difference in the way each colour lense behaves dependent on environment. However I think the differences are extremely subtle 😃
Does anyone know where to get prescription glasses with flip-up sunglasses, please?
Hi Brian, I don’t know the answer but Photochromic lenses would do the same job without having to have the flip up part so look much neater 👍
Rudy has some with flip feature.
I’ve been looking into this but struggled, I’ve even looked at a visor over my own glasses
