    Thanks for the kind words and the sub! I tried to put the kits together for what I thought I'd actually use or do.

    @roundtablereview No problem at all. It might be my fault. For some reason I thought you were asking about the backpack I showed towards the end of the video which is the Vulture II. Thought you were asking about that since I didn't mention the name of it in the vid. You are looking for the Max IFAK pouch right? If you go to their website, then Pouches and Pockets, then IFAK is about half way down the page, middle column. the SKU is 0329 if that helps.

    A tip for Ace-type elastic bandages. I unroll them and fold them in a s-fashion with the folds the same width as the bandage. Then I vacuum seal the whole thing with my home vacuum sealer. It makes a nice flat, compact package, a little smaller than a couple of 4 x 4 gauze pads. It makes it easier to carry this type of bandage if you don't have the space for the roll or it allows you to carry a wider bandage for the same or smaller space. Great vid!!

    @tekknorat Thanks! I actually would have redone this vid because I wasn't that happy with it, but there was no way that I was getting that pouch back off the Maxpedition bag in less than 2h worth of trying I think.

    @EnduringEagle You can get everything in my vid without a medical license. I don't know about locally, but they are all over the internet for purchase. There are lots of options for quikclot type stuff - granules, sponges, gauze, etc...

  • @SnareMan

    Sorry for the confusion. The IFAK is the Maxpedition Individual First Aid Pouch. Its on their "pouches and pockets" page. $26.99. Or just type "Individual First Aid Pouch" in their search window and it comes up.

    @NewbieCamper Yea, I actually need to add some meds like Motrin or Tylenol at least. They are definitely worth having. I actually may add a few more things to this within the next few weeks such as a needle for needling chests, maybe some airway stuff and a few other things. I'll probably redo the vid if I add the stuff.

    Love this video.It's nice to find knowledgeable professionals that can evaluate kits like these and not just throw equipment into a bag.I have had numerous interactions with others that put IFAK's together, and because of some limited medical background start advising people to include items such as antibiotics and narcotic pain relievers. They have no Idea what they are doing! I recently put a kit together using the FIGHT bag, and it turned out pretty well.This is why I subbed. Thanks & Be Safe

      Hi jr10 , wich antibiotics and narcotic pain relievers you recomend? Greetings from Barcelona 😉

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  13 років тому

    @kdrerik I suppose it depends on where the person is shot. If its in an extremity and the bleeding isn't horrible a basic compression dressing might work. For moderate bleeding some type of QuikClot might work. If its really significant you might need to go the tourniquet route. That Israeli bandage can actually be used as a tourniquet. You could certainly get a dedicated tourniquet though - its just going to be more to carry, although it might work better. Stab or GSW to the torso

    Im a Police Officer in a Trauma Center and I also work for another town so I decided to carry a medkit. Speaking to the Trauma Doc's and the Tac Medics that I see regularly they have helped me build a IFAK, and a few other kits for things. Detroit maybe violent but the Trauma Docs and Medics stay busy so they come in handy for advice. Good Video Brother!

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  12 років тому

    Interesting. Can't say I've ever heard of that, especially the internal stuff. Just went and read about putting it in your nose for nose bleeds. I'd think that would make you sneeze which would be counter productive for stopping bleeding. I'd also think that for stopping some type of gastrointestional bleeding you'd have to have a pretty high concentration of it because by the time it got to the source it'd be pretty dilute or digested in some form by the stomach. I'll have to look into it more

    Done right, sure. A lot of people use it. It should be on a clean wound (not a bite or something else likely to get infected) that doesn't have a lot of tension on it. Clean the wound, pinch the edges together and then apply several coats, allowing to dry between each. Be careful not to get the glue down into the wound itself.

    Thnx for the comparison video. I've been looking for an appropriate bag for my suture kit (p/o my when-medial-help-isn't-coming bag).
    Re zipper pulls on bags, a tip I learned from an EMT instructor: always use both zipper pulls to close the bag to where the zips meet at the half-way point. Then you always know exactly where on the bag the pulls are when you have to open it in hurry (or, not so in a hurry).
    Thnx again for a great video. I truly enjoy medical emergency prep videos by pros v.s. all the self-appointed posers out there in UA-cam land.
    Best regards

      WARNING! WARNING! Maxpedition is habit forming! Because it is so, it can be very dangerous to the health of your wallet! (I should know as I am now attending Maxpeditions Anonymous)

    @kdrerik are a different story. Certainly getting some type of dressing on them to stop the bleeding is great, but more so you need to get to the ER so they can figure out if there are more serious internal organ injuries (you aren't going to fix a speen or liver laceration in the field). Hope that helps some.

    @SnareMan  11 років тому

    Overall I don't think i've had any problems with it, although I haven't really beaten any of it up too much. I think the double rifle bag I have is a Voodoo one if I remember correct and its been thrown around a pretty good amount at some classes with no problems.

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  13 років тому

    @scoobydoo6906 I think a neck brace is a little much to carry. I don't mean to say that you shouldn't carry one if you want, but on the usefulness to space scale, you probably aren't going to get that much use out of one compared to the other stuff in your kit. You can also apparently make one out of a backpack with a firm back and the straps up over the head somehow, although I've never seen it.

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  12 років тому

    You can find it on the internet in various places, but its rather expensive and seems hard to find in small quantities.

    No, I meant my bag was tight with all the items I've got stuffed in it. It's almost like one of those commercials you see where someone has to sit on their suitcase just to zip it up.Anyway, I think it covers a lot of potential issues.

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  13 років тому

    @scoobydoo6906 You mean including an actual hemostat? If I had one in the kit I'd be more likely to use it pull things like glass out of a wound than I would be to try and clamp off a bleeding vessel. Sometimes if you don't know what you are clamping and start clamping blindly in various parts of the body you can cause damage to tissue, nerve and vesels that you didn't start with. A hand is a great example of a place to not go blindly clamping into a wound. Does this help?

  • @SnareMan
    @SnareMan  13 років тому

    @scoobydoo6906 That's a tough situation. Having never had an open femoral artery inury I'm not sure exactly how it would be, but I'm thinking that there would be sooo much bleeding from it under a lot of pressure that might be hard to find and clamp off with a pair of regular hemostats. Certainly couldn't hurt to try though. Not sure how well some of the hemostatic agents would work on that massive of a bleed, but that would be another option.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
    I did notice that you don't include any kind of pain or inflammation medicine, such as ibprofin(sp?) and tylenol. Is that because, as an ER doc, you prefer people come to you without having had anything? Would you still have that view if you (us, actually) are in the back country somewhere and therefore not able to get to a hospital in a timely way?

    Good video. I wasn't fond of the Voodoo bag personally. Much prefer the Condor EMT pouch. Similar size and construction on the body, but much better laid out on the inside and without the straps that keep it from opening all the way. Also easy on/off the main pack with a velcro tear away panel. Also has a strap to hold it a little more securely to the panel. Has plenty of room for a good amount of gear.

    Where is the best place to get that Surgicel? It seems to be more versatile than Quickclot or similar and much more likely to be used.
    Depending on the size of the entry and exit wounds, you could probably use that Tegaderm, if its big enough. I think the largest obstacle to overcome would be in making sure you had a good seal, though I'm sure some Transpore could be pressed into service in a pinch to seal the edges.

    • @SnareMan
      @SnareMan  8 років тому

      +mistermanji I'm not sure of the best place. If you have a large amount of bleeding, Surgicel likely isn't going to be good enough though. I sometimes have trouble getting it to stop the tip of a finger from bleeding. Sometimes it works great, but others not as much. Its better for smaller wounds, but not for major stuff where you'd use quickclot or something similar.

    • @mistermanji
      @mistermanji 8 років тому

      I have plenty of things for major bleeding already. Due to the insane price on Sugicel, which seems to be sold mostly in boxes of 10 for over $100 dollars, I think I will be sticking with direct pressure, and perhaps one of my Quickclot gauze 4x4s if it just won't stop. Thanks for the response.

      I suppose it comes down to how much you want to be prepared for. You could carry a full ambulance worth of trauma gear. I'd imagine larger is better, but I'm sure you could probably get by with the 4" if you are crunched for space. I think that's what I have in my current kit.

    I'm pulling security in mostly low-risk places, where the main risks are stab wounds, and pepper spray.

    I want to add a decent torniquet to my kit but I can't seem to find one for a good price. The military type that got the best reviews is 30 bucks. Ouch!
