  • This is how to make pottery with cracked texture. I make a big rectangle bonsai pot (± 55cm or 22") with the crackle technique using soda silicate.
Pottery made with the clay slab, deformed to obtain the crackle effect. This os how to use Sodium Silica by mixing soda silicate with slip which is applied on the surface. Sodium silicate pottery technique is usually made on a round pot, but I show how to make a cracked texture on ceramics without a wheel on a rectangle pottery made with clay slab..
Pottery handmade in white sandstone, firing at 1250 C°.

*Hey Greg beautiful video!!* feels so nostalgic, what is the name of the song? Also what clay did you use to make your pot?

Hello, ty. The song is "space coast" from UA-cam Studio Library. The clay is a sandstone called "st amand", but I'm not use it anymore.

To form the cracking are you just applying straight slip, or is there any additives involved?

He has obviously added sodium silicate to the slip, then pushes outward to make it crack.
