I have one in Australia and they are great engines but they do snap cranks. An aftermarket crank and Pistons is the first step for reliable power. Having Said that there are diesel tuning companies here running 10s on the street Dmax that had over 300,000 kilometres on it before getting modified and the motors unopened.
Man, as a Cummins guy, I love these videos you put out about the diesels. My neighbor across the street is a retired military guy and his wife is Tai. Super folks. If they are running those times on that track... Just imagine the launches, the time, and possibly the carnage if they were to run on a real prepped surface! Incredible what they are able to achieve with with a tiny 4cyl diesel on basically a cement strip.
Those trucks hook up hard. Love to see what one could do on a sticky track. They look like they have "small" turbos, because a diesel engine is very different to a petrol,(gasoline) engine, and has different air requirements. To start with, while a race prepped petrol might rev to 12000 RPM, but probably less, there are good reasons why a diesel just cannot get much past 4000RPM, at best, meaning it needs much less volume of air. In addition to that, Diesels run much higher compression ratios, and a little bit more air, subjectively, leads to a much greater percentage increase in cylinder pressure, again reducing the amount of air needed compared to a similar sized petrol engine. Add in the fact that the turbo is likely specified to only operate effectively in a small rev band (Flat out...) and the fact that the size of the turbo doesn't relate to its output in the way it used to years ago, and it does indeed make it look small. The huge turbos on diesels, and half the petrols I see are bleeding off more pressure than they are putting into the cylinders. It looks good, but it's mostly a go faster stripe. Turbos are massively complicated, once you start getting into the details.
They sent one over the the US like 10 years ago for an event and it kicked everyone's ass LOL try and find my video from ECU Shop, maybe from a year ago and the truck is in that video
