Few yrs ago I remember reading comments of ppl saying BTS are too busted/ugly. Now that they're successful, people say they're too beautiful and it's supposedly the main reason they became so popular.
Its the sad truth and then there’s people accusing them of plastic surgery like as if they don’t look the same as they did predebut and as if they had the money for plastic surgery when they literally lived in a small one bedroom apartment together
I don't know much about K-pop but the BTS guys seem like really nice, hard working and down to earth young men. They deserve all of their success. Another fascinating video AB!
Becca COYS Thank you so much for the kind comment, and yes they are. From participating in discography, production and lyricism to genuinely interacting with fans, BTS slays it.
??? not everyone knows their music??? maybe they've only seen their images and names everywhere?? you really want them to lie and say nice stuff so you can feel good about yourself??? do you realize how ridiculous yall getting defensive over and twisting compliments looks??
potbotra i am not getting defensive it's just something that i notice that people moslty focus only on looks instead of music i didn't say they don't deserve to be complimented about their looks!
Ioanna Have you listened to the song Pluto? It's about how Pluto was deprived of its status of planethood from the solar system and comparing that to the way we feel rejected rejected in relationships sometimes, and you still say BTS isnt unique? Whalien 52, about a whale who only communicated in a frequency of a level other whales could not hear. So it's a song about loneliness. BTS is not the average boyband singing romantic songs, which is why I liked them in the first place.

Just like 윤승혁 who wrote above me, I am a Korean and I love Japanese anime. We know there isnt only hentai thing and people consume hentai anime is quite rare. I think Japan produce the best quality in the world. I like both Japanese anima and American animation. They clearly have different style. Almost all Koreans in 30~40', spent some of their teenager time with Japanese anime. I really loved Attashinchi although it is far from some famius serious like Naruto. ;) In Korea, liking Anime or Manga is not considered as really nerdy or seriously otaku and even the word otaku / nerd doesn't sounds so negative. (I think there aren't a lot of serious otaku here so that's why people don't think reading manga automatically otaku and it is just considered as normal.)
Why do most people in Korea and Japan think BTS is famous for their looks? There are way too many reasons why they are so popular across the world compared to relatively 'better looking' and 'more handsome' boy groups. I certainly don't need to state the reasons at this point
Accept the fact that most of the people love BTS because of their looks not their music. A none-ARMY wouldn't even hype to BTS' songs. Their songs are just appreciated because they have a big fanbase. An average person prob knows BTS but will not be able to name one song bcs their songs doesn't even trend 😂
Odette's Boobs Yo I think it goes in this order for someone new to bts - choreo, songs and then their looks. And since bts songs are mainly korean (and japanese) they are hyped among Kpop fans. Though I can't say for general public because they can choose to not like bts in the first place
Looks are one of the most essential factor of becoming a popular artist. In these current era, an artist who has no "good looks" I doubt he/she will be hype by the people around.
wow i didn't know bts were so popular in japan that even the most average person knows about them wowowow (yes a dude in the interview said it, im just quoting him) and now the president of south Korea himself congratulated them for being #1 on BB200, bts are legends
you got that "BTS so popular in Japan" from 10 people?! I'm sure you even think that BTS is all over the air waves in the US just because it's on the BB200. c'mon now Koreaboo
RBX2 actually they are really hot in japan they made most money in japan out of all kpop groups last year so if kpop topic come bts name is mentioned in japan....and yeah for America she didn't say that she talked about korean influence here after billboard number 1 ...so no need to elaborate things other way
Whenever I hear kpop is almost similar,im kinda embarrassed. There are various korean music like hip-hop, rnb, blues, rock, indie and ballad. But only korean idol music is popular in the world That's why they think like that. Please look inside korean streaming charts. There are very various music not only idol music. Also like the japanese students, I thought japanese pop was weird, only listening to akb48 or johnnys But when I found sekai no owari and nishino kana,I changed my mind
just minnie I really love k rnb and hiphop! I love Artists like Dean Heize or DPR live. Actually many kpop fans like them! Korean music is so beautiful I really love the language and besides the USA I think korean Rnb artist are very good and strong!
Soooooooooooo many idols sing all those genres you mentioned. Kpop is dance, rock, trot, rap, hiphop, rnb, ballads, reggae, electronica idk why you're so ignorant.
The reason I started liking BTS was because of their song lyrics and the message they spread. They’re music varies and there was always something that drew me to them. Their personalities and hard work being some of those things...They aim to make a change, and I really like that. They started at the bottom and have succeeded through their hard work. I respect the hard work of all groups in the industry. I also listen to EXO, Day6, The Rose, Shinee etc.. I want to get into Jpop but where do I begin lol?
Rishabh Nair I’m saying THE REASON I STARTED LIKING BTS. They do have meaningful songs that spread a message and they have songs for fans to dance to and enjoy lmao. 😂 Like DNA, like Fake Love which even then, there’s a deeper meaning. My gosh
Why BTS stands out than other groups in my opinion is the authenticity and sincere music they put out when they started. I've been a fan since 2013 and I tried to listen to other groups' music but I still don't feel that connection with the way I feel about BTS. Apart from the quality music they put out sometimes, they were selected because they genuinely love to make music and the best part for me is that, they are some of the funniest people I've never met with their personalities. They show their emotions well even when they try to hide it on camera. I can say that I'm not a Kpop fan, rather I am a BTS fan.
A little bit of Namjoon and a lot of Rap Monster agree with your opinion, I’m also not K-Pop fan but I'm an ARMY, honestly I didn't interest with KPOP at all but once I notice BTS their something different that you could hear on their music and one thing their characteristics make me love them.. 😃😃
Alex that is called improving Wich it's the most Normal and natural thing from any artist and people in general , they stared young the youngest of BTS was 15 whe they first debuted so it's obvious that with more experience and room for improvement they get better as time passes they still had even in their oldest albums good written music with deep meaningful lyrics specially the Rappers who are the main composers of the group , for me they get more refined and clean when it comes to their music , lyrics , sound and overall music production their new album is an example of their maturity just listen to songs like "Paradise" or "The truth untold" and outro: Tear read the lyrics and the way the express their feelings and emotion there and the way the vocal and rapper line carry on those songs and you can tell how they improved in all those aspects , you can tell and grasp their maturity level as an artist now and the personal growth of every member , specially in songs like singularity, the truth untold , outro tear and Paradise my favorites for the new album because all the reasons I mentioned before . in my PERSONAL opinion BTS best albums are The most beautiful moment in life : young forever, WINGS and Love yourself :TEAR their most recent Album lyricist wise and music production wise
A little bit of Namjoon and a lot of Rap Monster I never got this reasoning as they aren't the first or only ones to do this. Especially with groups like B.A.P. around. And a lot of Solo artists also sing about various topics.
Yes, because anything not in complete agreement and blind devotion is being an anti. Stop being so defensive. I listen to BTS, but people make them out to be perfect God's who invented music.
As a BTS fan, i must say that hearing all these from average listeners really shows BTS huge influence in Japan right now. It's not just within the fandom but its expanding towards to whole country
why are you surprised they the most selling korean artist in japan and they took the 1st place for 3 years in row for the most famous korean group in jp
sarra benyossef Because breaking into the gp and mainstream market is a difficult thing to do. All those records might not reflect BTS' standing among the gp, but more like the power of the fandom. It took k-armys many years to be acknowledged by the korean community
no babe that`s hard for others not for bts huge jp artists and critics praised them 29874 times not to mention their records and stuff when it come to korea no one dared before to talk about bts`s fame in the media but if i you look at it since their debut they were making history in korea
Not gonna lie till this day I can't believe BTS huge success, it's something you don't see everyday and all these accomplishments are overwhelming to be honest.
as korean i really amazed how kpop become todays. at the past we don have anything. we colonized, we have civil war, we don’t have natural resources too. though after we become more rich, korean culture is far from the popular other one. but then we keep trying to open abroad market, something changed. after BoA, after fails of wondergirls at america, after PSY, and now BTS. I wish people in other countries have hope from us. we don’t have anything but can make this far. i want to see more diverse cultures spread out. it will makes people can understand others without bias.
서보국 Honestly saying I was not familiar with Korean culture ..but after seeing k drama and k pop ..I became die hard fan of it.. Now I have only wish to go Korea one day.. That's the impact of these idols..I am from India..I hope they come India too for their shows
Indian culture is huge because Indians use their communities well out of india. In the UK their culture is so historically intertwined that Indian food, cinema and even areas are common place. Bollywood is one of the best facets as well as culinary and literary excellence.
I hate how foreigners view Korea's music industry solely based off the manufactured idol groups and boybands. I hope people know that the very origin of Kpop is extremely organic and wholesome. Seo Tajji and the boys were probably some of the first artists to challenge the extremely homogenous and collectivist culture of South Korea. Not only this, but there are massive underground movements throughout Seoul that are unorthodox alt. indie, hip hop, RnB, lof-fi, type music that is blossoming in Korea as of now. So I really encourage everyone to try and explore the Korean music more thoroughly. I personally find ppl who just see Korea through Kpop as ignorant and rather lazy. Its similar to the headasses who comment "hip hop is dead" or "I wish I was born in a different generation."
"Kpop sticks to one pattern" "Kpop songs aren't serious" Light trap - SAVE me Light Dubstep - Fire Rap - Agust D, Joke, Do You Pop/Dance - Just Dance, Go Go Lofi/Hiphop - Outro: Crack Emo rock - Fake Love Funk Rap - Boyz With Fun, Ma City Pop - Waste it on me, Euphoria Latin flavoured pop - Airplane pt.2 Hiphop - We are bulletproof pt.2, no more dream EDM - DNA R&B - Intro: Singularity Progressive Hiphop - Airplane Urban - I NEED U Urban remix Moombahton Trap - Blood Sweat and tears Sentimantal Ballad - 4 O'Clock Country - Am I Wrong Jazz Rap - 134340 (Pluto) Rock - Spring Day (Brit Rock Remix), DNA (2 Pedal LA Mix), Fake Love (Rocking Vibe Mix),Spring Day (Brit Rock Remix) Pop Ballad - Intro: Epiphany, The Truth Untold Deep House - Daydream Urban Hip Hop - Just One Day Future Bass - Euphoria all of these songs: aRe wE a jOKe To yOU btw i'm japanese so no offense to the japanese ppl lmao
@@xjpnfanx i know right, i think it's completely fine if they've actually listened to kpop and it wasn't their style, but i'm pretty sure they haven't...
@@xjpnfanx ignorant, yes. But "hateful"? You should tone it down, just because they said something like "sticks to one pattern" or "kpop songs aren't serious" without listening, it's already being hateful? They're just ignorant, BTS deserves all of the credits for their hardwork, I'm a korean btw, and I love kpop, jpop and ofc jrock
BTS just made history, their album love yourself is the #1 album on Billboard atm! Asians should be happy and aware of their accomplishments. U.S is the biggest entertainment industry in the world. Once you make it in Hollywood, you basically become a worldstar.
The Nelphilim Na Na's comment aint that deep lol. BTS are the first Asian artists to get #1 on the Billboard 200 and the first foreigners in the past 12 years to get this recognition. She said nothing about anything about priorities or "overshadowing" others.
I just want to share my opinion about this. For me BTS is not just handsome face, good figure or charisma on stage, not just cool dance and not just having good music videos. These 7 people are very genuine and very kind hearted they love music more than anything else. They wrote their own lyrics and produce a lot of their songs.BTS lyrics is not shallow, not just catchy but they tackle political issues, how to cope depression, about dreams, about loving yourself, women empowerment and a lot more.I hope people will dig to them before judging them. They helped a lot of people by their music and I'm one of them.I'm already old but I'm thankful I found them 😊.I feel like a proud older sister everytime they achieved something because I know they deserve it.And also in terms of charity they have a lot, campaign about end violence and a lot more.
I think they meant the difference between jpop and kpop because in Japan they have hardworking and talented artists too but the only differences with bts are handsomeness and beauty
It’s sad to know how your average people have limited BTS to the “good looking” standard when they are so much more than that. BTS became popular gradually because of their hard work, they are appealing more to the non-Kpop fans because their lyrics always tackle very deep social issues, all of their members participate in discography and production with 3/7 members being the most active to do so. Their lyricism and the metaphoric sentences and the flow of a story that they are trying to convey along with their sincere personalities are what makes them unique from Kpop. BTS fans, ARMYs support BTS because they feel the connection with them because of their good communication with fans as well. I hope that in the future people would take deeper look on things and realize why some things are the way they are
In the Japanese CD market, K - POP is about 2%.K - pop is not a major in Japan.Western music is more popular. And Korean artists sing in Japanese in Japan.Sorry for bad english.
Maina Edward It would have been nice for Asian Boss to disclose that some (all?) of these interviews were conducted in Koreatown, Shin-Okubo. Of course there would be a high interest in Kpop.
I love bangtan and the reason why I love them is because of the connection that I form with their music. I can't understand korean and I can't understand what they're saying save for the few english lines in their song but for some reason, I understand the message through their visuals in music videos, voices, and the instrumental of their music. I feel like they're just genuine, you know, like they're really just personally connected with their songs,(like, listen to their individual songs) of course they write it and helps produce it, which may be why I get those feeling. But listen, I've never been really emotional when I listen to rap songs but suga's first love just hits me, which says something. But yes. I love Bangtan. I love them all. (Sorry for ranting)
It's very interesting to hear the opinions. I grew up in Japan, at a time when Kpop wasn't as popular as Jpop(back then a group called Arashi was popular) so it's fascinating how big Kpop has grown into Japanese music culture :)
To be honest, BTS is more than K-pop now. Their music really differs from the others'. I really love them for their beautiful songs with deep lyrics, which is rare for k-pop, and a also for their good personalities!
Jayden C. on the scale of things it's really true. other than the initial boy / girl band concept where each member had their own roles, the idea rap isn't essentially just a genre and is included in all songs etc. the music as such is really American. as in, western, European of that sort. think latin music, or indian music, even anime soundtracks (though they use the western musical patterns) you'll find it out right away. but kpop (the name itself rather signifies you see. it's an umbrella term alright, but it's korean- something. what sets apart this music from just being named pop is the fact that it is in korean), as an instrumental would take sound any different from english music at all. think rap, rnb everything is borrowed and recreated. pansori, kukak, listen to those. those are korea's traditional music. you'll see that no scaling do re mi, will match. same for indian carnatic music japan, though, have a genre called visual kei, something you can't find anywhere else. the music is similar to metal, rock, etc. but their androgynous style of dressing, the way they were their roles and nothing else it's something so far on the end of this spectrum, but japan was okay with it. that's what makes jpop, Japanese music really diverse.
I do agree with the interviewee. There are many different music in Korea but only kpop is extremely popular. You don’t see metal, rock, rnb, etc being popular in Kpop. In Japan, you will see more variety and different styles.
Idk what kind of Kpop ya'll listen to (or don't listen to) but the range is all over the place and Kpop is even critisized for not sticking to one genre. BTS for example, they take inspiration from Japanese EDM, Latin music, Reggae music, etc.. I am an American attending school in Korea for 13 years. I've seen it and heard it all lol. It's true that some particular songs come off as generic or copied which applies to every music industry out there. Instead of being all negative and showing how sad you are, you should just embrace the diversity and the mix of genres.
It tooks 7 hours to get 10 interviews! thank you for the hard work. I know from living in Japan that privacy is held in high regard, so they are reluctant to open up in random street interviews. Two of the ladies had great points. One said all the k-pop groups constantly change their style and sound to chase what is currently the most popular. That is because the members themselves are not expressing any self-style. they are merely the face to a mass produced product. And another said, they try to show themselves as too perfect. whereas j-pop members show a little flaw so that they are relatable.
Anyway, the President of South Korea wrote BTS a congratulatory letter for bringing Korean popular music to the world stage and described them as "7 boys passionate about music / youth influencers". So, no part of the BTS success has direct relation with their good looks but their music that conveys sincere emotions to those who listen to them.
@Masearte Abraha they were called ugliest grp by kpoopies when they were not famous lol Their music attracted people's attraction the most. U don't know abt them so don't state things like they are facts
@Masearte Abraha Tae is popular but jin is not popular than Jungkook and Jimin,,,,,but I somehow agree becoz some people like them because of their look, anyway many kpop were out there better than BTS in visual, what I meant Is that, visual didn't play much important role
@Masearte Abraha mostly they were known for their music and talent,if BTS is popular because of visual, lol funny many kpop group are better in visual as I said
@Masearte Abraha I said in the first statement that I agree their visuals play a role, but not all the army, new army mostly like V,jk or Jimin but when they know more about BTS,they come to like the other members too,,you don't get what I tryna said,,, Btw I'm army from 2014,so I know much more about them than half of the army would,,,so fight me
I don't want to criticize their opinion but K-pop is more than pretty faces, they work so hard so it would be cool they can be appreciated for their talent
Having grown up in Japan, it's interesting to me to imagine that Japanese popular culture has evolved more individualistic than Korean popular culture.
Haruka ino BTS has sold more than 285,000 of their Japanese Album FACE YOURSELF making it get certified RIAJ Platinum and it also topped weekly oricon charts. LY 'TEAR' topped iTunes in Japan and over 15,000 Japanese Fans crowded the opening of the 'BT21' store in Harajuku without them even being there. They were the first ever Kpop artist to be able to perform two songs on the Japanese Music show NHK live on television and many many radio shows talked about them. FACE YOURSELF also became fastest selling kpop record in Japan to date. BTS is still growing but no one can deny that they’re not big in Japan. I’m not saying they’re a household name in Japan, no they’re still not there but bts has made a great impact and people are curious over them here in Japan.
Monababee it's the mentality of Koreans and Koreaboo thinking everything like kpop is popular in Japan! If someone says against it then bashing starts!
It's funny sometimes people think BTS or kpop other groups are popular just because of their looks. That's how most of people starting to know about kpop groups but later on they'll see what they really are and will fall for them step by step. For me honestly I got into BTS because of their music. I hope everyone will love their music & lyrics not just the looks.
WhentheSunShines ItsReallyHobieShining Y’all take yoongis words from his mixtape to heart and so literally when that’s not what he meant at all and it’s sad af...
I don’t like how they said BTS is basically famous for their looks. I remember vividly predebut they would be labeled as ugly or the most unattractive group which wasn’t even true because they were al each handsome since back then. But now all of a sudden everyone loves them not because of their looks but because o their music and talent yes their handsome but the reason they got so popular is because their music got them here.
as a korean I really don't like Korean pop industries bc they dominate all over music market in Korea. if you go down to street in korea you can only hear Kpop song all day long. healthy music market should contain creativity and diversity. but the kpop? it's like factory product.
jake Thats true, a music market should have differing tastes, just kpop can get boring if its really forced onto you for a long time, I assume some Koreans are very tired of it already.
I’m kinda surprised that they didn’t mention how BTS (as well as other Kpop idols and groups I believe) put efforts into making WHOLE albums specifically for Japanese fans...or maybe they did mention it and I didn’t catch it
when it comes to music, liking J-pop and K-pop more depends on individual tastes but as far as music videos are concerned I must say the production quality and direction of K-pop MVs are superior than any other music industry
I mean South Koreans are generally taller than Japanese, so that's why Kpop idols tend to be taller than Jpop idols. Edit *South Korean male avrg height: 5'9* *Japanese male avrg height: 5'7* *South Korean female avrg height: 5'4* *Japanese female avrg height: 5'2*
That’s not true, Kpop generally tends to hire people who look good and have a decent height(they give priority to looks/height etc), whereas the Japanese don’t really give priority to looks or height. All they care about is singing. Sure there are some Jpop groups who looks good but mostly it’s just musical talent. You can see this trend from the fact that Koreans are know for having a lot of plastic surgery done in their lives.
Rishabh Nair Well there is research that Korean are Taller then Japanese and Chinese And i don't think That Japanese celebrities are Natural beauty too
Rishabh Nair If you google it, it said: South Korean male avrg height: 5'9 South Korean female avrg height: 5'4 Japanese male avrg height: 5'7 Japanese female avrg height: 5'2
I totally agree with the girl in the blue hat. I have been a kpop fan since middle school (I'm a college graduate now), but I think that a lot of groups start to look, act and sound the same because they follow the same formula.
No one can deny the success of BTS. They hold the messages that help millions of young people. On the other hand , there are some artists who only write love songs, breakup songs, party songs throughout their career. And not to mention they mix love lyrics with party musics and this what makes a song meaningless. Apart from kpop and jpop , there are some Bollywood singers and Arabian singers who deserves recognition . But western Industry is full of politics. They are not happy when any asian singers ( I am talking about singers from Asia continent including kpop , Jpop, Arabian, Bollywood and so on) tops in any charts . The fact that BTS still made it to this far is amazing.
They are right though BTS do love Japan. They have dedicated fans and are actually able to walk in the streets without being mobbed. Japanese Armys deserve all the love they get from BTS. I wish all armys around the world could be like them.
In the interview the Woman had a very good point. Japanese music even in J-pop have very interesting and weird scales and chords. Which make them unique. Kpop have easily to listen chords which actually match a lot of Western music. I would say Kpop had also their unique sounds during the early 2000's nowadays it's very rare to hear those.
5:52 - 6:12 I agree with her. Some Kpop entertainment companies do seems to be focused on looks rather than talent. That was one of the reason I used to hate Kpop before but I found some very diverse music artists into Kpop so I decided to check out more. Apparently tho, I still feel like I relate to the J-music I listen more than Kpop's songs
Wow Asian Boss always works so hard to give us content, 7 hours!!!!! Thank you so much! And the fact that it was a video about BTS makes it even better!
Great interview! For people who don't know BTS, they stand out amongst other k acts because they all have different distinct personalities and most of them produce their own music! They also love their fans and we celebrate every milestone together (like topping BB200 chart today!) Their JP album did really well but most of them are just jp versions of popular songs. Still the jp originals like Don't leave me and let go are widely loved by all of the fandom. BTS won't however start doing eng songs, because they feel like what they've done till now is working fine. The closest we've heard of a eng BTS song is the Mic Drop remix from last year. International fans don't mind it though, we're happy they stay true to their own culture and don't try to become a "western boy group" despite all their success :)
There was this one person who said that Korean music is less emotional and deep than Japanese music, but I'd just like to say every type of music is emotional and deep. You'd be able to find those types of songs if you listen to the right people
Who care what they think about K Pop. The spewed words reflect their Jealousy, Viciousness. Hence I really don’t care what Japan think of K POP, especially BTS.
IMO i think the most wild army during concerts is definitely Brazillian Army.. they're on another level wild.. they seem to be really really happy to see BTS and enjoying themselves... japanese army are very cute.. most of them are very very cute tbh... and YOUNG! i went to their concert in japan, and the ones i met were middle and high schoolers? there's lot of younger fans at the japan concerts... and arab army had the cutest reaction of seeing BTS at the concert coz i saw videos they're not believing they're at BTS concert and were like, so grateful about it.. it was the cutest tbh...

kids here really like BTS too. to my nephews, the rest is just 'other kpop groups'. Once my nephew asked me "aunty do you like BTS?" "I don't listen to BTS" "why?!" "why what?" "but they're cooler than the others!" "....ha? ok if you say so.."
This is no difference to ask someone: "do you like fast food?" in McDonald What's the point of asking someone about kpop in Shin Okubo, the Korean town in Japan
BTS aren't all about their looks, as their fans, we see that they have flaws too that they have their moments of weakness like any one else, that they're human. They've always been hella relatable and lovable when you actually try to know more about them, the lyrics they write by themselves are very deep and complex and always have a great message about serious issues. The boys weren't one of these manifuctured idols, in fact they had one of the most organic growths i've seen, as they started of in a bankrupt company, self-producing/writing their own songs. Their company didn't have the money or conections to promote them well, so instead, us, their fans streamed and voted and pushed them up because we saw that they deserved it more than anyone else.. the boys stay true to themselves and all of them are so different, most fans didn't get into them because of their looks, but because the music was relatable to us, and that they felt like home to us, because they made us feel loved.
A lot of kpop groups are like bts, compose their songs, have great choregraphy and messages and as talented as them, but still not that popular. Bts is overhyped by armys, they think bts is the only kpop and bts is god to them, lol
@@shuangshuangguo i don't think they are "overhyped" it's more like that the small good kpop groups are underhyped since their fans suck at promoting and prefer dragging BTS 24/7 then actually focusing on their faves, oh and btw ARMY means BTS fan, not kpop stan, so it makes sense we only stan BTS, lol
I think what makes Japanese ARMYs different from everyone else is that they're very respectful to BTS and their staff in general. Mostly whenever BTS has a fan meeting and concert in Japan content almost never gets its way to the internet, streams cut off even when it's been 5 minutes and some even get their memberships revoked. It's sad that their security is too harsh on the fansites because they just want to share BTS to those who cannot attend but it is against the rules so as fans we do have to understand their agency's decision.
I'm a music lover and I've been introduced to K-pop as recently as late 2016. I came to know about BTS only towards the end of 2017. Initially when some videos mentioned BTS as the title I clicked on it thinking it's behind the scenes. Now that I'm aware of them I tend to forget BTS also mean behind the scenes or ARMY also mean military force.
haha, this channel is owned by Korean, ofc they are gonna promote Korea and despite China and Japan. But, as a Chinese, I am glad that Japanese people like you also notice this. Generally, I think most Chinese respect Japanese more than Korean.
A list of some of my favorite musical artists. Lady Gaga, Shakira, Pentatonix, Lindsey Stirling, Panic! at the Disco, Piko, One OK Rock, Babymetal, Wagakki Band, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, Kotani Kinya, Sid, The Gazette, Guckkasten, and BTS. I feel like music probably says something about a person's personality, but I'm not sure what. Edit: I love a good cover from PelleK.
And none of them talked about their songs!! Everything boiled down to their looks and cool dance moves!! As an ARMY, it kinda disappoints me that people fail to see the message the boys want to put out through their songs! Yes they're good looking and yes they're great dancers but when are these people ever going to realize that there's more to them. Anyway this video was definitely a great way to show us international audience as to how kpop and BTS is perceived in Japan. Thank you Asian Boss. Love and support all the way from India.
I understood those viewpoints. Before I got into kpop, I watched some jpop (and still do today) and jpop is definetly more diverse in styles and deep lyrics, especially rock bands. But a lot of times, the songs have SO MANY different elements in them that it gets too complex, and not really the easy pop that gets hugely popular like what happens with kpop
You haven’t listened to many groups then. Literally my favourite kpop group, Dreamcatcher, focuses on rock elements in their music. They’ve made Japanese OSTs for a video game, and they’re more diverse than any jpop group I’ve listened to. It’s true that Jpop is more diverse than kpop, but kpop isn’t just “easy pop”. You clearly haven’t delved into it deeply at all, please don’t be ignorant.
@@HusbandoCollector ive been in kpop since 2010 dont go lecturing me about ignorance lol dreamcatcher isnt even that old and before them kpop was still very much the same kinda style of pop for everyone
That guy even though he said he’s not into kpop, I love him ❤️. He still gave his opinion in a very respectful way. I wish all people were like him instead of just hating on them. You need to be open minded when it comes to music genres.
I'm very happy that this interview was done because I studied japanese/japan for years and listened japanese rock (from visual kei to pop punk). Now I'm studying korean etc. I really appreciate Asian Boss cameraman and staff 7 hrs to be walking around talking to people is a long time and the interviewer was still smiling. She picked people who gave good comments. Even the people who said they preferred jpop gave good reasons that I can understand. The reason I got into kpop was because like the one guy said im not japanese so i couldn't understand some of the music videos. In general in any country music videos don't always make sense but I can understand when cultural commentary is being made or puns etc. He wants to understand all that the first time. What I don't like is when people make racist or superficial comments about artists (of any culture) in the west the comments tend to be more racist and in the east it seems to be more superficial. The west will categorize them (kpop idols and BTS) as strange for openly wearing makeup and caring about their skin even though regular men do it too, not just gay men. It's not a korean thing it's a cleanliness thing. I can 100% understand where those girls were coming from when they said k idols are concerned with being perfect - that's a pressure put on them by their company and the fans so that they don't get into scandals and whatnot but it's exhausting and sad. That's why BTS stands out. They sing about the personas they manage. They sing about not losing themselves. They sing about the restrictions in their culture and wanting to kick the door down so kids can just be kids and people don't have to commit suicide because of one failed exam. And it's all catchy! I hope people cam understand now that the old wave of kpop is either dying or changing their ways to stay relevant while the new wave is more free, more transparent, and fuses many styles. And that's why you're seeing BTS, NCT, BAP touring America. Seventeen is coming along well too. Also please drop names of jpop groups that have deep songs. The only group i know is exile and that's too many-
Absolutely ridiculous saying BTS just successful for their looks. BTS accomplished more than any group in history such as: Infusing pop music with philosophy of Nietzsche, Jungian analytic psychology and European modernist literature (Hermann Hesse) Synthesizing various sub-genres to create hybrid musical style Admired and respected by global pop stars like Taylor Swift, Madonna, Shawn Mendez, Khalid, Justin Bieber, Drake, Lady Gaga and many others (shout out from Paul McCartney) Having more top billboard hits in a year than any band since the Beatles Giving speeches to United Nations twice Performing at invitation of crown prince of Saudi Arabia (who changed national law to accommodate their performance) Making Time Magazine most influential people in world list more than once and on cover at least twice Donating $1 million to BLM and for different charities Speaking out publicly against racial and LGBT discrimination Uplifting millions of fans through positive messages and mv Setting several social media views records and then breaking them Greatly and consistently impressing vocal, dance and mv industry experts (easy to find on UA-cam) Writing and producing own music Making short indie films Sacrificing much of their personal lives to reality shows and V line for fan's pleasure More I can't remember
As much as i adore bangtan's visuals it makes no sense for me when people say "theyre popular for their looks" because in every k-pop group theres gotta be 2-3 people who stand out for their face lol people who say its because of their face probably dont know anything else about them
6:02-6:13 That girl is definitely on the mark. I agree with what she said about K-pop groups compared to popular J-pop groups and how some seem like they're more manufactured and a little less relatable. AKB48 comes to mind...
i agree with the guy who said that kpop is more popular because jpop is too complex and hard to get into. im not downgrading any side or being biased to other side, i listen to both, but i think japanese music and lyric are too deep somtimes. even their happy song or just a usual song had a really deep meaning. and most of them still use instrument or the better way to put it is they dont really follow the music trend, the electronic music genre kind of style. where in kpop, the music is catchy and all, thats why its so easy for kpop to get popular, because they manage to attract audience with catchy sounding music, but if you truly understand the lyrics, most of them are meh and can come off as cringy (imo) im not saying that music have to be deep all the time, im just stating the reason kpop is more popular and how sound is somewhat more important than lyrics now.
What Japanese people call a "Kpop" is just one of so many different style actually sung in Korea. Only the type of the songs that easily appeal to the public is becoming known as the Kpop and enjoyed by people outside of Korea. Have you heard of "하현우", "김은미", "부활", "김경호", "윤도현 밴드", "볼빨간 사춘기", "악동뮤지션" among so many of them? Don't quickly judge if you don't know very well. For example, Japanese would feel so strange if Korean people think the nature of Japanese entertainment by the AV industry, which is only the small part of the whole picture in Japan, but also is one of the outstanding to other people outside Japan. The real Korean Pop can be grouped largely into two groups, one (hiphop, and dance music, called "Kpop" by foreigners) heavily influenced by "서태지와 아이들" before, and the other one (mostly sad balad, and R&B, etc.) influenced by "유재하" and his predecessors, in addition to other genres including Rock.
seriously, everyone in japan knows bts. I live in japan and almost every girl in my school loves them. and since bts and other kpop groups usually debut in japan as well, their popularity rises so names like bts or bigbang is typically a household name. as a Japanese American, I prefer kpop much more than jpop, but I do really love jrock. either way, kpop has heavily influenced japan for a while.
i 100% agree perfect comment. which is why i like jpop (though its impossible to find stuff online). when osmething is perfection theres no where to go

Few yrs ago I remember reading comments of ppl saying BTS are too busted/ugly. Now that they're successful, people say they're too beautiful and it's supposedly the main reason they became so popular.
Na Na ikr if they werent popular they wouldnt even say they r good looking i just feel like punching smth when they reason that as bts success
Its the sad truth and then there’s people accusing them of plastic surgery like as if they don’t look the same as they did predebut and as if they had the money for plastic surgery when they literally lived in a small one bedroom apartment together
People are a bit ignorant in this world.
Na Na who the hell said they are ugly? V has always been in the list of top k pop visual
Na Na and Jin ~~
I don't know much about K-pop but the BTS guys seem like really nice, hard working and down to earth young men. They deserve all of their success. Another fascinating video AB!
Becca COYS Thank you so much for the kind comment, and yes they are. From participating in discography, production and lyricism to genuinely interacting with fans, BTS slays it.

Please do "what do the Koreans think of Anime?" next.
Csp Sk
It will be like everywhere else in the world, its international.
The anime called "Your name" was really popular in Korea.
I actually cried while watching that anime :(
It was so good.
I Love Japanese anime very much
Csp Sk It depends on person some of them likes anime and some of them hate anime and also hate
People who like anime
Just like 윤승혁 who wrote above me, I am a Korean and I love Japanese anime. We know there isnt only hentai thing and people consume hentai anime is quite rare.
I think Japan produce the best quality in the world. I like both Japanese anima and American animation. They clearly have different style.
Almost all Koreans in 30~40', spent some of their teenager time with Japanese anime. I really loved Attashinchi although it is far from some famius serious like Naruto. ;)
In Korea, liking Anime or Manga is not considered as really nerdy or seriously otaku and even the word otaku / nerd doesn't sounds so negative.
Shimrbae 482 because, have you seen a typical male Jpop idol?
Tu Do lol 😂😂😂😂
RBX2 they sold out 11 Concert halls (in Japan only) in 2016-2017 :)
RBX2 actually they are really hot in japan they made most money in japan out of all kpop groups last year so if kpop topic come bts name is mentioned in japan....and yeah for America she didn't say that she talked about korean influence here after billboard number 1 ...so no need to elaborate things other way
So what?! Is that supposed to be a record or something?! What's the size of the attendance? 50 people?
RBX2 you sound mad :(
Whenever I hear kpop is almost similar,im kinda embarrassed.
There are various korean music like hip-hop, rnb, blues, rock, indie and ballad. But only korean idol music is popular in the world
That's why they think like that.
Please look inside korean streaming charts.
There are very various music not only idol music.
Also like the japanese students, I thought japanese pop was weird, only listening to akb48 or johnnys

K-pop, the pop means popular. So it's about popular musics.
Lucy R the lyrics? Wow. Fake love had such inspiring lyrics damn. Even DNA. Such a meaningful message. Definitely not a sellout. Smh
Lucy R Sekai no owari, their songs got deep meanings too :)
Rishabh Nair I’m saying THE REASON I STARTED LIKING BTS. They do have meaningful songs that spread a message and they have songs for fans to dance to and enjoy lmao. 😂 Like DNA, like Fake Love which even then, there’s a deeper meaning. My gosh
Lucy R
I know tons of Jpop songs lol
You gotta read fake love lyrics again and maybe try understand them, then you'll see that you're wrong :')
When they debut they weren't really that great. Really it was post Wings and with their own releases that they came in to their own.
A little bit of Namjoon and a lot of Rap Monster omg same
A little bit of Namjoon and a lot of Rap Monster I never got this reasoning as they aren't the first or only ones to do this. Especially with groups like B.A.P. around. And a lot of Solo artists also sing about various topics.
I'm Japanese, but as an Asian I'm so proud that K-pop has gained so much popularity worldwide^^
antis can cry and stay mad while BTS keeps soaring high and continues to dominate the world
bang taened yes
Yes we can cry but we chose to not cry..

Ollie totally agree
As a BTS fan, i must say that hearing all these from average listeners really shows BTS huge influence in Japan right now. It's not just within the fandom but its expanding towards to whole country
why are you surprised they the most selling korean artist in japan and they took the 1st place for 3 years in row for the most famous korean group in jp
sarra benyossef Because breaking into the gp and mainstream market is a difficult thing to do. All those records might not reflect BTS' standing among the gp, but more like the power of the fandom. It took k-armys many years to be acknowledged by the korean community
no babe that`s hard for others not for bts huge jp artists and critics praised them 29874 times not to mention their records and stuff
when it come to korea no one dared before to talk about bts`s fame in the media but if i you look at it since their debut they were making history in korea

That's the impact of these idols..I am from India..I hope they come India too for their shows
서보국 I wish like Korean culture.. Indian culture also introduce to korean people
Korea was poor now its rich
Indian culture is huge because Indians use their communities well out of india. In the UK their culture is so historically intertwined that Indian food, cinema and even areas are common place. Bollywood is one of the best facets as well as culinary and literary excellence.
*got colonized

The Nephilim who said bts must be the only priority. Stop twisting my words.

It would have been nice for Asian Boss to disclose that some (all?) of these interviews were conducted in Koreatown, Shin-Okubo.

Arashi is still pretty popular in Japan. It's still quite difficult to even get into their concerts.

They did it 💜
"Kpop sticks to one pattern" That's the first time I heard that lol

They do. But i love so it is all good
Jayden C. on the scale of things it's really true. other than the initial boy / girl band concept where each member had their own roles, the idea rap isn't essentially just a genre and is included in all songs etc. the music as such is really American. as in, western, European of that sort. think latin music, or indian music, even anime soundtracks (though they use the western musical patterns) you'll find it out right away.
but kpop (the name itself rather signifies you see. it's an umbrella term alright, but it's korean- something. what sets apart this music from just being named pop is the fact that it is in korean), as an instrumental would take sound any different from english music at all. think rap, rnb everything is borrowed and recreated.
pansori, kukak, listen to those. those are korea's traditional music. you'll see that no scaling do re mi, will match. same for indian carnatic music
japan, though, have a genre called visual kei, something you can't find anywhere else. the music is similar to metal, rock, etc. but their androgynous style of dressing, the way they were their roles and nothing else it's something so far on the end of this spectrum, but japan was okay with it. that's what makes jpop, Japanese music really diverse.
@Masearte Abraha they were called ugliest grp by kpoopies when they were not famous lol
Their music attracted people's attraction the most. U don't know abt them so don't state things like they are facts
@Masearte Abraha but back then, people really don't get attracted by that, because as we all know, they're from a small company
@Masearte Abraha Tae is popular but jin is not popular than Jungkook and Jimin,,,,,but I somehow agree becoz some people like them because of their look, anyway many kpop were out there better than BTS in visual, what I meant Is that, visual didn't play much important role
@Masearte Abraha mostly they were known for their music and talent,if BTS is popular because of visual, lol funny many kpop group are better in visual as I said
@Masearte Abraha I said in the first statement that I agree their visuals play a role, but not all the army, new army mostly like V,jk or Jimin but when they know more about BTS,they come to like the other members too,,you don't get what I tryna said,,,
Btw I'm army from 2014,so I know much more about them than half of the army would,,,so fight me
I swear i can hear dna in the background
mbts army I thought I'm the only one 😂
i hear it now 💀
I can't tho 😂
It interviewed did in korean town, shin okubo. This video is propaganda. Asian boss head office is in korea
Lol. Same
I don't want to criticize their opinion but K-pop is more than pretty faces, they work so hard so it would be cool they can be appreciated for their talent
Having grown up in Japan, it's interesting to me to imagine that Japanese popular culture has evolved more individualistic than Korean popular culture.

Bts has a really huge fanbase in Japan and I’m really happy that they’re doing well there too!!
Monababee not really! Biased video
Monababee I'm just saying what I'm seeing! No need to get mad over it!
Haruka ino I’m not mad lol I’m just stating facts because you denied something that isn’t true. It’s good to educate people y‘know
Monababee it's the mentality of Koreans and Koreaboo thinking everything like kpop is popular in Japan! If someone says against it then bashing starts!
The woman who said TVXQ, TVXQ,TVXQ..love her
It's funny sometimes people think BTS or kpop other groups are popular just because of their looks. That's how most of people starting to know about kpop groups but later on they'll see what they really are and will fall for them step by step. For me honestly I got into BTS because of their music. I hope everyone will love their music & lyrics not just the looks.
It is the mere fact altho most of them are average. Kpop songs in the past is nice. Now no more. All abt being sexy or cool

서양이나 동양이나 K-POP 아이돌 노래만 들어놓고 딥한 주제가 없다네 ㅋㅋ

I listen to BTS musics because of their lyrics and the way they sing.
a lot of K-pop's surge in popularity is due to their distinct style and stunning visuals!
as a korean I really don't like Korean pop industries bc they dominate all over music market in Korea.
if you go down to street in korea you can only hear Kpop song all day long.
healthy music market should contain creativity and diversity. but the kpop? it's like factory product.
BTS are different because they compose and write their own music, with original content and deep lyrics, nothing to do with the manufactured music
jake true. Why can't you enjoy Japanese songs too? Isn't it unfair?
jake Thats true, a music market should have differing tastes, just kpop can get boring if its really forced onto you for a long time, I assume some Koreans are very tired of it already.
You should try k rnb indie ballad or hiphop instead!
I'm glad that BTS is typical manufactured K-pop group
It’s been 4 years since snsd had a Japanese comeback and they are still loved by the Japanese. Real queens and only queens
SONE spotted :)
Edit
*South Korean male avrg height: 5'9*
*Japanese male avrg height: 5'7*
*South Korean female avrg height: 5'4*
*Japanese female avrg height: 5'2*
Na Na disagree with this and I’m korean
That’s not true, Kpop generally tends to hire people who look good and have a decent height(they give priority to looks/height etc), whereas the Japanese don’t really give priority to looks or height. All they care about is singing. Sure there are some Jpop groups who looks good but mostly it’s just musical talent. You can see this trend from the fact that Koreans are know for having a lot of plastic surgery done in their lives.
Rishabh Nair I didn't say this doesn't happen. Just saying South Koreans are generally taller, which they are.
Rishabh Nair Well there is research that Korean are Taller then Japanese and Chinese And i don't think
That Japanese celebrities are Natural beauty too
Rishabh Nair If you google it, it said:
South Korean male avrg height: 5'9
South Korean female avrg height: 5'4
Japanese male avrg height: 5'7
Japanese female avrg height: 5'2
I totally agree with the girl in the blue hat. I have been a kpop fan since middle school (I'm a college graduate now), but I think that a lot of groups start to look, act and sound the same because they follow the same formula.
They're talking about Kpop idol singers, not rap or trot etc.
For me, an artist can be from any genre in any language as long as they put a lot of effort and passion in their work.
That's why they say Koreans are "perfectionists" Koreans are every detailed people.
Well i clicked because its Asian Boss😐

There was this one person who said that Korean music is less emotional and deep than Japanese music, but I'd just like to say every type of music is emotional and deep. You'd be able to find those types of songs if you listen to the right people
TVXQ
I love the whole of SM Fam tbh
She has good taste

Kpop is easy to listen to, but also very superficial. It's more about looks and dancing than about music. There are exceptions ofc.
Vista Fleur Have you listened to the song Pluto? It's about how Pluto was deprived of its status of planethood from the solar system and comparing that to the way we feel rejected rejected in relationships sometimes, and you still say BTS isnt unique?
Whalien 52, about a whale who only communicated in a frequency of a level other whales could not hear. So it's a song about loneliness. BTS is not the average boyband singing romantic songs, which is why I liked them in the first place.
kids here really like BTS too. to my nephews, the rest is just 'other kpop groups'. Once my nephew asked me
"aunty do you like BTS?"
"I don't listen to BTS"
"why?!"
"why what?"
"but they're cooler than the others!"
"....ha? ok if you say so.."
This is no difference to ask someone: "do you like fast food?" in McDonald
What's the point of asking someone about kpop in Shin Okubo, the Korean town in Japan

Ur the one that is ugly. Saying other people are ugly is disgusting.
Just a random person
Nobody is ugly actually. Thats not a opinion but thats a judgement dude~
A lot of Californians love BTS , here.
thanks
a small portion of california likes bts
I think what makes Japanese ARMYs different from everyone else is that they're very respectful to BTS and their staff in general. Mostly whenever BTS has a fan meeting and concert in Japan content almost never gets its way to the internet, streams cut off even when it's been 5 minutes and some even get their memberships revoked. It's sad that their security is too harsh on the fansites because they just want to share BTS to those who cannot attend but it is against the rules so as fans we do have to understand their agency's decision.
Well of course, they are Japanese.
KOREAN BOSS CHANNEL
Daniel Shin nope
haha, this channel is owned by Korean, ofc they are gonna promote Korea and despite China and Japan. But, as a Chinese, I am glad that Japanese people like you also notice this. Generally, I think most Chinese respect Japanese more than Korean.
@@whosyourdaddy5719 you're right… god bless you…
A list of some of my favorite musical artists.
Nice, good questions and answers. It's insightful.
The only group i know is exile and that's too many-
I am so happy to see the positive outlook from the Japenese people.
Please make a video on, “What do Indians think about K-Pop?”
Absolutely ridiculous saying BTS just successful for their looks. BTS accomplished more than any group in history such as:
Infusing pop music with philosophy of Nietzsche, Jungian analytic psychology and European modernist literature (Hermann Hesse)
Synthesizing various sub-genres to create hybrid musical style
Admired and respected by global pop stars like Taylor Swift, Madonna, Shawn Mendez, Khalid, Justin Bieber, Drake, Lady Gaga and many others
(shout out from Paul McCartney)
Having more top billboard hits in a year than any band since the Beatles
Giving speeches to United Nations twice
Performing at invitation of crown prince of Saudi Arabia (who changed national law to accommodate their performance)
Making Time Magazine most influential people in world list more than once and on cover at least twice
Donating $1 million to BLM and for different charities
Speaking out publicly against racial and LGBT discrimination
Uplifting millions of fans through positive messages and mv
Setting several social media views records and then breaking them
Greatly and consistently impressing vocal, dance and mv industry experts (easy to find on UA-cam)
Writing and producing own music
Making short indie films
Sacrificing much of their personal lives to reality shows and V line for fan's pleasure
More I can't remember
you go girl
As much as i adore bangtan's visuals it makes no sense for me when people say "theyre popular for their looks" because in every k-pop group theres gotta be 2-3 people who stand out for their face lol people who say its because of their face probably dont know anything else about them
Any ARMYs here?? (:

YASSSS sad lil haters be hating~~
Any weird gay dudes that wants to kill these bitches?
6:02-6:13 That girl is definitely on the mark. I agree with what she said about K-pop groups compared to popular J-pop groups and how some seem like they're more manufactured and a little less relatable. AKB48 comes to mind...
i agree with the guy who said that kpop is more popular because jpop is too complex and hard to get into. im not downgrading any side or being biased to other side, i listen to both, but i think japanese music and lyric are too deep somtimes. even their happy song or just a usual song had a really deep meaning. and most of them still use instrument or the better way to put it is they dont really follow the music trend, the electronic music genre kind of style. where in kpop, the music is catchy and all, thats why its so easy for kpop to get popular, because they manage to attract audience with catchy sounding music, but if you truly understand the lyrics, most of them are meh and can come off as cringy (imo)
im not saying that music have to be deep all the time, im just stating the reason kpop is more popular and how sound is somewhat more important than lyrics now.
you should have come to shiratorizawa hv u tried listening to bts's music? some of their songs r deep like spring day and sea to name a few :)
WTF I see no comment praising the Samurai dude with a top knot. He just needs a fuckin sword.
I love BTS, they have good messages in their songs, lyrics, a beautiful storyline and bop songs 🔥🔥
seriously, everyone in japan knows bts.
