  • Using braided line as the main line on a spinning setup is one of the best options possible. Having a strong knot to connect a fluorocarbon leader to the main line ensures that this particular combo is as strong as can be. Gerald Swindle shares the knot that he prefers to use when connecting braided line to fluorocarbon.

    I ordered this to net the algae in a large pond in our backyard. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxphFK7ETiDP5G4IGsNcg7vbASDp_YfDpI The net is very sturdy and easy to maneuver in the water. The angled edges make it easier to get into the smaller spaces among the rocks. I didn't realize that the front of the net doesn't actually have a frame to it, just the sides do, but it seems to work just fine. The handle extends to various sizes, which is a great feature when I'm in areas that are tight with shrubs at the edges of the pond. I can collapse the handle so it doesn't get stuck in the bushes.

    It's refreshing to say the least finding a knot like the red Phillips. I find that it's almost as strong as the Alberto not as strong as the FG but here is where it wins... It's freaking simple as hell. This is a knot I'm glad I found for my dad. He's old fashioned. He doesn't want to learn knots that complicate fishing which is ok. But now he's got a new strong knot

    I switched from double uni to this knot as soon as i seen the simple overhead knot on one side on this knot. Pro says he uses it everyday, good enough for me.

    New to fishing here, I recently bought my first fishing gear and my line is a 25 lb braid , didn't knew that I would be needing a "leader" for it until I saw your video "Connecting Braid to Fluorocarbon with Gerald Swindle". My query now is what diameter and lb my flourocarbon leader should be that would match my 25 lb braid. Great video and truly educational.

    I tie a gt knot. Alot of folks say it will fail. I beg to differ. When I marry 50lb braid to a 15lb flouro leader and can boat flip a 5lber that's where the rubber meets the road. Plus it casts good as well.

    Would that knot work good on a bait casting reel setup. I tie the FG knot when I use a braid to fluorocarbon line on my bait casting reels, this one actually looks easier to tie. Would it be as strong?

    • @Jon-nz3dm
      @Jon-nz3dm 5 років тому +3

      I've found that knot strength with connection knots has more to do with how well it's tied. I got best at tying a blood knot so that's what I use. It's a fairly large knot and I use it on all of my baitcaster setups. So this knot by Gerald will definitely work with a baitcaster.

    I’ve tried the braid to leader on spinning gear but I still find myself going right back to straight 6 or 8lb fluoro. I see no benefit especially in wind braid flies all over where fluoro sinks you still stay in contact with the bait.

    • @C69hJc4
      @C69hJc4 9 днів тому

      You should check out the Trilene knot and “Fish n Fool” knot. According to their tests, passing through the eye of the hook twice (as both of these knots do) create one of the strongest snug knots for fluoro to terminal

    • @livebig247
      @livebig247 9 днів тому

      @C69hJc4 I used nothing but the trilene knot for fluorocarbon for years,, until I came across the double pitzen. It has worked way better for me. Consistently broke at a higher rate during my testing. I actually use it for my trilene 10lb xt trolling for walleye. Never had a break off, even on big lake erie sheepshead spinning in circles and horsing them in on an almost locked down drag. As far as the alberto knot, I believe the strongest may be the FG or whatever new one is out, but I have never broke it off either, again catching huge sheepshead while bass fishing on erie with 10lb braid and 8lb fluorocarbon leader, with drag set appropriately. These 2 knots have never failed me for the last 10 years or so. If it ever does, I will try something different as I had to with the trilene knot on fluorocarbon

      It’s more than strong enough

    • @C69hJc4
      @C69hJc4 9 днів тому

      And stop going around bashing other knots just to promote your own knot. That’s pretty sad and makes you look bad. Especially since you don’t have any studies to back it. If you wanna point to some testing that shows why it’s an unreliable knot, great! But you’re bashing on based on theory, not testing. Even if it’s weaker than your knot, which I’m sure it is, “weak” is still relative. Fisherman only need “strong enough” for their target species and something that they feel comfortable tying. Considering Swindle is a BOSS and the knot works reliably for him in tournaments, I think your argument is shoddy at best. You invented an excellent knot (it’s what I use). Let it speak for itself.
