Not painting is laziness. I often have the choice of playing video games or painting, and when I'm exhausted I choose video games. However when I'm motivated by a game coming up I will be up until 2am painting my ass off
For a channel that talks so much about mental health, I'm surprised to see this has a stamp of approval. Speaking from personal experience, No, its not just laziness. So many people can psych themselves out of motivation for painting so easily. Either for fear of "ruining" a model, or being judged (which this channel does showcase happening), or a variety of other reasons. Others can't always get space to do it consistently. I'm shocked to see such an attitude which will do nothing but keep people out of the game for, frankly stupid, reasons. "Your models aren't painted so fuck off we aren't playing" is such a moronic take. Your immersion can handle fake 2" tall plastic people but it can't slap a color on them to make the battle "fun" for you? Get real.
@@Optix334 well sir, me saying it's laziness it's certainly how I view it my self included. I actively make choices to play video games instead of painting. I have had days where I have sat down at my desk and just stared at models and not lifted a paint brush.
@@zackariaswade I was definitely listening to the video at the time, and so some of the frustration there is more directed toward that rather than you directly. I TO for my LGS and the idea that we would have people who are soft-not-allowed to play games because of painted models is just nuts to me. The #1 motivator (in my experience), like you mentioned, is playing and having a game to play. Laziness or otherwise, I'd rather have the people with grey plastic enjoying themselves, enjoying the store, enjoying the other people, and enjoying the game instead of having the crazy elitist (and it is just elitist when its done outside of tournaments) idea of requiring painted models before they can play. That's a way to just drive people away. People enjoying the hobby will be more inclined to enjoy it if they aren't lambasted for what is arguably the most taxing part of the hobby for some. Its fine to require for a tournament, but not for casual play, IMO.
@@Optix334 see and I understand completely. It took me 3 years to fully paint 3k worth of Flesh Tearers due to work and family. I Would play with and against grey plastic however I like to see progress even if it's one model a month. Otherwise it's not a Hobby, excluding people for not being fully painted is also dumb.
Moose Jaw is a really neat town, there are a bunch of underground tunnels that people lived in (you can still tour the yunnels). The tunnels were a big deal during prohibition, they were used to smuggle Alberta Springs whiskey into the USA by Capone. Neat place if you ever get the chance to go
I have a friend who is a professional at procrastination regarding painting. His problem is the fear of failing, in my opinion. I've been printing him models so he can botch them without worrying, for 4 years now, and he still plays with me with gray models. He even buys and builds GW models once in a while but never uses his paint and brushes.
I knew a GW manager who would get round the forge world issue, buy selling GW vouchers to customers. Who would then go and order the forge world online in store and then use the vouchers to pay.
In America, at least at two Warhammer stores I have asked about this - I can bring in and play my vintage 1987-1990 GW minis. I was told if GW made (sold?) it, you can play it. I suppose made is different than sold or partnered with.
Hey North great video! I'm curious what are your thoughts on the fireback type stratagems? where your unit is wiped out but for a cost you get to shoot back then they die.
Hey North I love the content You make but want to suggest another stream "Champion store stories" Everyone loves a train wreck but sometimes a good dose of wholesome is needed. We all also have these kind of stories as well that for some cemented us into the hobby.
In regards to the forgeworld stuff in-store, is that limitation only in the UK? Because here in Southern California, there is a Warhammer store that does sell FW, but that might be due to the fact it's a cafe as well.
Ive seen forge world boxes in the GW store that I go to. Would that mean they let FW be used? And FW products are now displayed under the main website as 15+ expert kits and can be ordered on the computer at the store.
I don't have the time to paint models. But I also don't have time to play or read the rules. So lmao. Some weeks I quite literally don't have a free hour. But I learn other stuff. Mostly mechanics stuff to keep my rot boxes going. But if I did have time to learn, read the codex, paint and play... I'd probably build an army that takes the least amount of models. And I don't know, but I feel like that might be admec?
11:50 Ok, i dont play with grey plastic. But. This concept that everyone has enough time and "just chooses not to use it" is absolute bollocks. An hour a night? Lol. Sure. An hour a week, maybe. Some weeks
North was commenting on people who say they don't have free time because they use it on something else. For them it's about priorities and time management. Not a lack of free time. In your case, perhaps you just prefer a good night's sleep. 😉

11:48 This little snippet is golden. Just what I needed to hear. I dont even collect models, but that applies to anything.

Lol keep thinking moose jaw has trees and lakes. It's better that way
The other reason for the nudes might be to get OP under Miranda’s thumb.
Someone like Miranda would not like a man who isn’t under her sway
Lmao I love the idea of a British man saying "you've got loads of those trees and lovely lakes and things"

That Forgeworld ruling is likely different now as they are all under one banner, on one website.
You'd hope so. What's the advantage of paying those ludicrous prices if it's barred just like 3d prints and recasts?

I’m in the US. You now can purchase forgeworld models on the site and in store because they merge the two which sucks but whatever lol
If you dont have time to paint your models you dont have time to play the game. If you dont have time to play the game are you even in the hobby?

Probably knights or Custodes for lowest model count
Admech?? This is a meme right??
Admech is infamously hordey and extremely expensive to build, as well as time consuming to paint.
