      Hi Mike, I have a 1966 912 pretty much original. I've been wanting to change the headliner and glass. I don't think I have the patience. Do you know anyone in the San Diego area for that kind of restoration?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Craig
      Try Autos International Inc in Escondido..
      They should be able to help with your headliner and also be able to recommend a suitable
      Glass installer in the area as they do many dashboard and headliner restorations.
      Ask for Dorian and let them know you are from the channel you will get VIP service!
      Good Luck! www.porschetopsandinteriors.net

    Great video, my 68T is ready to come home, body work complete, front and rear windows installed, will install dash once the car is home, waiting to see your video on how you are going to do the installation.

      Congratulations on your 68T!
      I think your car is one of the last model and year dash can be installed with windshield in.
      Porsche changed dash configuration somewhere near the end of 68 or beginning 69..but not sure exactly when

    Interesting video as usual Mike, but I'm mostly excited to find out my '67 dash can come out with the windshield in... I've always read that wasn't possible and have put off doing some upholstery work on it for that reason. Great stuff and can't wait for part 2.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому

      Hello John
      Yes its possible on your 67 because of the style of dashboard..
      Porsche made some changes somewhere between 68-69 not exactly sure when but
      Those dashboards going forward had to be glued in to the car on the weather strip lip on the body.
      The seal would then slide down over the lip and hold the dash in.
      The vents also are a completely different design..
      Thats why the dash has to be installed first on later cars

    Your trim installation instructions for the door glass weather stripping were right on. What about the alum strip around the rear window for a targa? Is this just a press-in to the rubber seal? I am worried about bending this.

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  Рік тому

      Hello Dennis
      Im not familiar with the Targa rear window installation process. It looks to be quite different than the coupe. It would not surprise me though if you have to do some minor shaping of any trim being used. A mock up should revel what's needed.
      Good luck!

  • @GarageTimeAutoResto

    Did you reuse the original trim?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Tom
      I went with new trim from Porsche for the re-install although I could have used the originals no problem..
      The condition of the originals wasn't bad but they did have a few dings and scratches in them

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Brian
      The shape of those parts prior to assemble is critical for success.
      In part 2 will will go over a simple way to get them correct before installing.
      They are a pain for sure!!

      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому

      Hello Christopher
      Thats a great question!
      I will be giving my theory on how they did just that back in the day on the next video
      They had a perfect install system! quick and efficiant

  • @AA-eq2cs

    Hi Mike, Can you just let me know what the procedure was to remove the glass in the first place. Did you cut the rubber first and push the glass out or is it more delicate then that?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Andrew
      Starting from scratch I would remove the metal trim with some sort of lubricant to get down into the groove..WD 40 would probably work good for that. Next it is recommended in the manual to cut the molding from the front side and peal away.
      After that it should be possible to push the front windshield or back window out of the car.
      Manual recommends to always replace the seals after every installation with sealant.
      I will not be using a sealant until after the summer months for settling a in period.
      Also for any reason unknown at the moment
      any need to remove these windows once more.
      I'll hold off just in case!
      Next video will be a very thorough explanation of the entire process
      Good Luck!!

    Will you be installing the windshield before the dashboard?

    • @MikesRestorations
      @MikesRestorations  4 роки тому +2

      Hello Hans
      Great question! I will be addressing this detail in the 2nd part but the short answer is yes for this car. but no for later cars..
      From 68 onwards the dashboard will have to be installed before windshield.
      Porsche made some dashboard changes in 68 that prevents the ability to install with the windshield in place.
      If you have a later model and want to pull the dashboard the windshield will need to be removed first!
      What a pain!!
