Instead of using rear door +12V, I would use +12V from radio power check with voltmeter. Camera will always be power when navigation unit is on. The best is to use the power dedictated for camera, meaning camera power output from Nav unit.
Hi great video. I have Mazda CX5 2015 and have also installed rear camera, it works when activated, but next drive settings are lost. Did you have similar issue? I have updated FW to 70.00.100 but have the same behavior. What is the proper steps to activate camera? I am doing following: 1) Start engine; 2) Reverse + breaks; 3) Volume + Nav for 10 sec; 4) Video appears; 5) Drive. Unfortunately settings are not persistent.
Thank you very much for the explanation. I have installed my camera this weekend and works fine. I had a problem because the screen connector made a short-circuit with camera data + and data -. But after a few hours looking for the problem works great. My camera is camrover 12V NTSC. Best regards
I found an adapter on amazon (amzn.com/B01C5YCXSK) to use on my 2015 Mazda3 Sport w/Mazda Connect. I installed the camera, but it still won't trigger the screen to switch to the camera. My connector has those 4 pins already installed. Cant figure it out. I don't know if its a software/firmware issue.
Great detail video. I want to replace my rear cam as it quality had deteriorated. However not sure what rear cam to buy for model 2013. How to know is it 6V or 12V type?
All this trouble for nothing just turn around your head and look up at the rearview mirror. Classic project which takes more time to fix, then using the existing solution for the entire ownership of the car
Thank you for this video. The dealer told me that I couldn't have any backup camera at all on my 2014 Mazda CX-5 but then I saw you video. Followed it almost exactly and it works perfect.
Radovan G. Almost. The only difference is that the cx-5 sport has its own video port on the back of the stock head. Other than that it is the exact same.
Each time the car was stop the nav didn't find the camera so had to reset everytime. When the radio bootup it has to see the camera. I had use the backup light. Finally found the right way to use a 12 Volts camera: had to use the 6 volts power from the radio I had a 6 to 12 volts converter from ebay (very cheap) If you use the door lamp camera will be power anytime so battery will drain. To be honest I should have bought a 6 volts camera to avoid the converter.
@@janir3059 I finally solved the problem in using the 6 volts from radio (dedicated to power the Backup camera) to power the 12 volts camera and it is working. But if you really need 12 volts for camera use a the same 6 volts from radio but boost it with a converter (6 to 12 volts DC). You really have to use the power from the radio. @@michelm52 Michel! Thank you so much for your fast response. I'll do a step up from 6V to 12V like you. Do I still need a trigger voltage from the reverse light? I assume that 6V is present on the main unit only when driving in reverse. The main unit then senses some current on the 6V output. Would it be OK if I left the current connection as it is and connect on the 6V output a resistor for a current of about 100 mA? Regards, Jani
Jani R you have to use the 6 volts from the unit only. First try the camera with the 6 volts from unit. If not working this 6 volts can be boost to 12 or act to trig a relay will give 12 volts to camera. But first i would try the 6 volts output from radio to the camera. For me it is working.
Thank you for this video! It helped me much to install a backup camera to my 2016.5 North American CX-5 GX. The four unused cables were available on mine too. The infotainment system is connected the vehicle CAN bus, data is transmitted stating what gear the vehicle is in. The infotainment unit likely has a pull up resistor that is used to determine if there is a signal available on the camera data+ line. These two functions work in simultaneously to determine whether or not a vehicle is in reverse and that a camera is indeed present.
Partner! I own a 2017 grand touring Mazda 6 love my ride but, just the other day my whole screen just went pitch black! Don’t know what’s the problem, please help?
Thank you for posting this. I can confirm my USA 2016 Mazda CX-5 Sport has the exact same four unused wires. I unwrapped them a bit, and found that the dark gray wire is the outer shield (ground). So I used that for video signal ground. The other three wires are the same. If I'd had to pull wires from the rear license plate area all the way to the radio, I wouldn't have bothered adding the backup camera. So finding this video made the difference for me. Thanks again.
An undocumented feature of Mazda firmware is, with bluetooth enabled, If you make a phone call as you're about to back out of a parking space, you'll see nothing on screen but the call in progress - no camera video. Secondly, if a text comes in while you are backing, you will see an opportunity to download the text - no camera video. Nice job Mazda!!
How did you know that the 4 wires were useless? I have a mazda 6 2014 and I would like install a camera and i am interested to find 4 wires useless ! Idea ?
Is it a problem if Power GND and Video GND are wired together? They are wired together anyway inside camera, and GND is GND, no matter where on car?.. :/ I have fried 2 cameras, and this is only thing wired differently from your tutorial..
Good work. I did the same thing on my US 2016. I didn't reuse the factor wire down the drivers side due to sourcing pins. Would love to know where you got the pins. I salvaged some pins from a mazda 6 wreck for the radio harness.
