Joshua Laporte You know the misc quest where you get a sailor's remains and put him to rest by cremating him in the lighthouse? This song just started playing as I went to the top of the lighthouse to finish the quest. So I was on top of the tower, the ocean to one side and snowy mountains along the coast and to my back with this masterpiece playing. That was probably the most immersed I've ever been in a video game.
It's pretty rare for a videogame to reach this level of artistry. The music elevated the game to an even higher level. I was pretty late to playing this game, didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. But I eventually bought it and devoted a whole summer to the game, good memories
+jbarkerhill92 You should totally try Bioshock Infinite along with the Burial at Sea DLC. Although I heard the first Bioshock was a tad better, Infinite was overall very good and Burial at Sea made me want to play the first Bioshock for closure. :)
As a French horn player, I will say that the opening melody is NOT easy to play. The top note is very close to the instrument's upper limit. It's hard not to sound awful when playing that high or even play that high at all.
Let's give some credit to the London Philharmonic too. Their arrangement of this song was spot on. The brief quiet moment with the piano was a nice pause and change of pace, but still felt like it belonged in the original track. Excellent, excellent piece. Showed to multiple people and got positive responses all around, and none of them are Skyrim fans.
+Eric Lin I still preffer the original with some exceptions but this arrangment is also good and that's what good music is about, allowing you great possibilities to work with it
If only all of Skyrim's soundtrack was performed by London Philharmonic Orchestra, it'd make my hairs stand even more on end. It's so beautiful it makes my skin crawl.
The console versions were a mess. Only spending up to a month installing three years worth of community mods for the PC version gives you a true Skyrim experience.
David Fallows Hey, come on now. I play Skyrim on the PS3 and still enjoy it as much as any PC player would. The ~200 hours I've spent playing this amazing game is testament to that.
3:01 Camera pans over a crowd of people gathered on a dimly lit eve in Whiterun 3:16 You see the faces of the ones gathered up front of the crowd. Lydia, Jarl Balgruuf, the Companions, several other close ones to Dovahkiin. 3:27 They are all silent, with their heads down, sad and in mourning. 3:31 Camera pans through the still crowd toward the Skyforge where the Dovahkiin lies on a bed of wood planks accompanied by an old Iron Helmet 3:45 The wife, tearing up, holds her face in her hands, until she slowly gazes upward and looks to the sky 3:53 The wife's teary eye widens in astonishment 4:00 Camera looks up revealing Odahviing, Paarthurnax and countless dragons circling peacefully overhead, honoring the Dovahkiin Funeral of the Dragonborn.
It will always be Skyrim that opened my eyes to the world of the fantastical: gallant Elves weaving their magic, Burly Nord blacksmiths hammering away at crude plates of wrought-iron as Secunda clears the horizon. Every snow-carpeted dale, surmounted by jagged mountain peaks similarly worn in snow, uplifted the Wanderer in me. From the sprawling crypts of Ancient Nordic warriors to the plethora of cottages hidden in the deepest reaches of the forest. Lore stowed away in old wood-worked shelves awoke a hunger in me. If not for Skyrim, I wouldn't be where I am today and for that I am eternally grateful.
.Skyrim .Oblivion .Halo 2 .Witcher 3 .Bully .Red dead .Ac2 .Fallout 4 .LA Noire .Gears of war 2 .Call of duty wow These are some of my favourite game soundtracks. You know a theme is good when you don't want to leave the main menu.
No joke, but I was on the verge of sleeping when I was napping this one time, but in the background on UA-cam, this music was playing. My house was white as snow because of the lighting of my house, and there was a cold breeze coming from my AC above me, like a winter breeze. That, along with this music, literally made me think for a good few minutes, that I was actually in Skyrim, or some faraway place, awakening to the cold winter snow. I was sort of disappointed to find out that I was still on Earth, but it goes to show you how powerful music can be. :P 4:00 is so powerful.
Nope, just hate modern music, modern life is pretty great all things considered but some things needn't be as bad as they are especially if we've done better before.
+Indy The Great That doesn't change anything. Nostalgia doesn't have to be from a time long long ago like in , it's when you feel something good about a different time. He means the thrill of exploring the world for the first time because that is a feeling that can never be replicated. Whether it's four years ago or forty, nostalgia isn't a feeling that needs to be held by a decade and up.
This is one of the best sides of our human nature -- feelings. Only true living soul could create such a beauty. This is the music I will always remember when seeing a sun rising over our world. Who knows? Maybe there is indeed another world full of magic, that this music portrayed so good.
man this game is my favorite of all time....the soundtrack is amazing and beautiful and the gameplay is just so atmospheric and relaxing paired with the music. my favorite. part about the game isn't the story or the dragons or any of that, its just wandering skyrim. I can't wait for elder scrolls 6...
These fantasy games and songs really bring out the desire for me to return to a simpler life. I love gaming, UA-cam and streaming movies - but it's so suffocating. Unless you have sacks of cash or savings, to live so far out in the countryside amongst the dramatic scenery can be a hard life of poverty and daily toil. I'd take the fresh country scenery over suburbia anyday if I were some oil baron who could afford to explore endlessly and soak in the magic.
The Rob I get the general gist of what you're saying, but the time period that these games are representing were by no means "simpler." And even if you were living in the world of Skyrim, it still wouldn't be simple at all. If you aren't a poor, hut-dwelling citizen who has to deal with a dull, monotonous life of harvesting the crops, fending off wolves and wild animals, then you might be a higher-up, wealthy citizen who still has to deal with the Stormcloak vs Imperial civil conflict as well as the rising number of dragons.
my absolute favourite song from Skyrim, it perfectly encapsulates the sense of deep nostalgia that game brought me over the course of 12 years. i was starting my adult life when the game cam out and am now a 40-year-old guy who thinks about those times fondly.
This reminds me so much of my home, the mist and the clouds covering the distant mountains (and o'course me playing Skyrim as an orc battlemage, exploring the northern tip of Tamriel!)..this is just wonderful :)
in honour of my big brother from another mother, Darren Dilnot. May he rest in peace traversing the mountains, valleys, forests, deserts and lands of his own vivid imagination. miss you so much mate, you left a darren sized hole in me I cant fill. I think about you everyday, sat in ur chair playing skyrim or lotro of wow or shadow of war or reading ericson, tolkien or janny wurts. if it wasnt for you i would never have found my love for fantasy. thank for opening my eyes. miss you loads Mr D, with tears in my eyes, love from Mr T!
I had a smile on my face up until the 1 minute mark, then the whole orchestra kicked in and I teared up like a bitch. The thought of all these wonderful players of London Philharmonic playing with such devotion and respect tugged on my heartstrings.
In the heat of playing a magnificent game such as TES V: Skyrim, you often forget the other elements that go into making this such a great game. This piece of music is probably the best I have heard in a long while that can evoke the emotions of wonder and exploration coupled with the memories that this game have made for most who have played it. The ability to evoke such great emotion is simply too amazing to put in words fully ;.;
The thing that makes this so much better than the original is, I think, the resources. Can you imagine if Jeremy Soule had access to the philharmonic orchestra for all the songs? It would be the best soundtrack ever. The talent that the members of this orchestra posses is incredible.
My favourite track from the game by far. I love looking at the beautiful art and remembering all of the wonderful experiences this game threw at us. Who *doesn't* remember their first time getting here 2:00? Or here 3:01? Or seeing Bleak Falls Barrow in the distance and wondering if you could get there 4:15? Some truly memorable encounters and experiences to be had... What a game!
this song managed to make me cry. it's s beautifully crafted song that receives all the praise it should get, it brings back memories of walking through what seemed like an endless grasslands. when i first heard this i felt relaxed more relaxed than i've felt in years. when a song possesses the power to calm you, you know you've found true beauty in music. it really sucked having this interrupted by some wolves or bandits and fucking stray dragons.
I wrote an entire backstory for my character in Skyrim a few years back. He had quite a troubled life before Helgen, and I chose this melody to represent it. So to me, this is really Skyrim's theme.
+Brian Hamlin To me, this song represents the beauty and nature of Skyrim, not so much the story or lore. I would choose this song over any of the new songs on the radio these days.
İ think its the perfect music. Just like, Those french horns and that Harp is perfect plus the flute makes it heavy as the wind. İ can feel the warm, gentle air that comes from far horizons...
Th song is so epic. Reminds me Skyrims's great memories, and take me to another world every f...ing time. One of the best video game theme ever, to me.
Of all songs from this game, I'm so glad they chose this one.
it was either this one or secunda
I'm glad it was this one too
+Indy The Great the streets of whiterun would've been more epic imo
+iAmDaos It is not about epicness in this case. This music is iconic
JonatasMonte and the streets of whiterun isn't?
+Indy The Great - Right on. Best track of them all.
This is a song that would literally make me stop whatever I was doing in the game just to listen to this masterpiece.
Joshua Laporte or simply great for riding over the planes outside Whiterun.
GreatGranpapy I've had that moment as well
Joshua Laporte climb a mountain like i did at Mont-Tremblant (875m), Québec and listen to that song while looking at the horizon :) It's epic !
Climbing to the peak of some unexplored mountain, looking around, and being simply amazed at the beautiful snowy world around you.
It's pretty rare for a videogame to reach this level of artistry. The music elevated the game to an even higher level. I was pretty late to playing this game, didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. But I eventually bought it and devoted a whole summer to the game, good memories
I did the same and it made it the best summer for sure. But at least to me, the music makes the game infinitely better.
jbarkerhill92 Xenoblade definitely matches this game in artistry. So does the Half-Life and Bioshock games.
+Indy The Great Bioshock was definitely a great game, loved the atmosphere and music, only played the first one though
+jbarkerhill92 You should totally try Bioshock Infinite along with the Burial at Sea DLC. Although I heard the first Bioshock was a tad better, Infinite was overall very good and Burial at Sea made me want to play the first Bioshock for closure. :)
+jbarkerhill92 same here. devoted whole season playing the game and hearing these great musics
As a French horn player, I will say that the opening melody is NOT easy to play. The top note is very close to the instrument's upper limit. It's hard not to sound awful when playing that high or even play that high at all.
that's why I play trumpet or saxophone...
I agree as a clarinet player this piece is extremely hard in not only on a note level but also on a dynamic level. (tune, Forte, decrescendos, etc.)
it just sounds easy because the person who played it is an incredible musician
^^^^^
Decresendos?! I think you mean diminuendos
TheBrassHole same thing; different name.
Let's give some credit to the London Philharmonic too. Their arrangement of this song was spot on. yeah after listening to this i couldn't go back to the original that piano part was so good
fun fact jeremy soule didn't like the piano part

Always. One of the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard
This game is on a whole different level, I hate to even call it a game. I just call it a masterpiece...
Couldn't agree with you more. Skyrim truly is a whole different breed of "gaming".
