One of the first "adult" shows I saw as a child was Elaine Stritch as Mame in Boston. I remember looking at my mother during intermission and saying, "Isn't she more of a Vera?" LOL What a treat to see this here.
God I love this woman! She can brighten my day, any day! Even though she’s not with us anymore, she is still so with us! R.I.P to a legend who has truly earned it!
and this is why I love you tube! what a treasure! I forgot that she had played Mame. One of my favorite characters. I grew up watching the Rosalind Russell film. I could probably still quote most of it. "Live! Live! Live! LIfe is a Banquet and most poor SOBs are starving to death." Doesn't that just sum up Elaine Stritch, too!
My exam is killing me and it's starting in a hour but I watching this I'm happy again, wishes of being her one day is still going on. I'm going new york someday
Elaine Strich is kind of notorious for flubbing the occasion lyric. Unfortunately, I think it was mostly due to her substance abuse. But she really was a legend
@@MsDefectiveToaster She really was! I remember finding 'Elaine Stritch at liberty' jaw dropping, both because of her talent and her honesty about alcohol dependence. Great lady
She never drank ‘on the job’. She explains in her one-woman show she limited herself to two drinks a day when she was working, if that. What a lazy and irresponsible comment.
@@ah7910 Revisit her one woman show... She clearly tells us that she only had 2 drinks before and/or during a performance. "Anywhere else, who cares, who's counting. But up here: 2 drinks."

So when you tried out for Mame you were rejected, as usual, and you are taking out your bitterness and resentment on a great show and a brilliant performer. Hope that you enjoy your job at the car wash.

Just discovered this gem! What a Trooper! Sadly this BROADWAY BABY is no longer STILL HERE! RIP. 🏆. 🕊 🕊 🕊

My God what a wonderful talent you created in this woman!!! Thank you 🙏
Jerry Herman meets Stephen Sondheim by Elaine Stritch. Goosebumps.
Think they already did with Angela Lansbury.

And the 1970's...
Thanks so much for posting!!!

Hope you did well!
Love how she commits to getting the words the wrong way round at 'theres a thank you you can give life".
Yes!! She pulled it off--a pro!
@Eric Gregory right but I think it was an honest mistake in this case and she pulled it off so well.

She’s doing all the parts so the bbc didn’t have to pay additional vocalists. Normally this has a lot of help.
fab-u-lous - a great star!
Beautiful! Elaine is forever talent... would've loved to see her Mame.
Bless you for posting this. I remember seeing it years ago and then it disappeared.
absolutely adore her
She was pure talent
She would have been an amazing dolly levi
You mean Mame Dennis. This song is from Mame.
Miss her! 👍
This was done when she was living in 🇬🇧 .
Back when Stritchie was still drinking on the job. But what a job she does!

Personality
Stritch doest bump into the dancers !! Brava, El !!
She wasnt a great singer and dancer. But what a perdonality she was.
She should have dubbed Lucille Ball for the movie.

An event in London
Mame
MAIMED is more like it.

Elaine should have done Mame in the 1960's. Great Performer. But,
Her platforms were not practical.
RIP
El walks a lot, skips, struts, waves arms. Cuz, she cant dance.
And she's probably drunk too.
Or sing. But I love her.
Yes, it's all very silly, but it's wonderful! She may have been totally drunk but this performance just radiates pure joy.
голос был у неё слабым.
речь же хорошая.
_Mame_ has horrible songs, a ridiculous story, and this performance was as exciting as a feeding tube.
Someone not get cast in their High School production of "Mame" I take it? 😂😂😂
So you were predisposed to dislike the performance because you dislike the material. Got it.
how pessimistic
