  • The 40th Academy Awards honored film achievements of 1967. Angela Lansbury, fresh from her great success on Broadway in Mame, stole the show with her high-spirited and delightful rendition of the Oscar-nominated song "Thoroughly Modern Millie", and received an overwhelmingly enthusiastic ovation from the audience. This number should have convinced Warners she was the only person to play MAME onscreen.

The 1st male dancer to enter is Ron Field, who choreographed the number. The 2nd male dancer is Tom Rolla, who later founded and owned Tom Rolla's Gardenia Supper Club in Hollywood. Ron died in 1989. Tom died on December 26, 2017. I watched this production on TV with my mother & father in 1968. Tom was my older brother. Our hometown was Philadelphia, PA. Rest in Peace, Tom ...........Dominic A. Rolla 10/13/19.

One of the greatest multi-talented actresses of all-in-one time! And a very gorgeous one too! I hope and pray the Oscar organization Will give this highly -respected actress of movies, theatre, and t.v. their Honorary Oscar as Miss Lansbury deserves it so much. Miss Lansbury won her first Oscar nomination on her very ist movie Gaslight when she was 18.And two more nods followed suit, with no win. I think with Miss Lansbury's body of work, the Oscar would be a an icing on the cake.

This number should have convinced Warners she was the only person to play MAME onscreen. When asked, who should play in any remake of Auntie Mame, Roz Russell said the only person would have to be Cher! She said she was the only one madcap enough to pull it off in her opinion. Instead, they got that follies at the geriatric ward with Ball. Landbsury would have been great.
