#CatholicConvert? I have never once in my entire life spoken to a SINGLE Protestant of any denomination/non-denomination/trans-denomination/whatever who could prove that their church had the authority from God to preach the Truth. All I ever hear is that they FEEL like the Truth is present....and therefore....we should....listen....yeah. Doesn't that BOTHER Protestants to not be able to answer a question THAT important? It positively BAFFLES me.

Faith is all about feeling, my friend. It doesn't bother Protestants because they don't believe the same things as Catholics.

False. Faith is an act of the will. Feelings may influence our acts of will, but REASON must always lead. Emotions must always be in support of and subordinate to reason, or we will SURELY go astray. Sin often FEELS great and virtue often FEELS lousy. We must train our emotions to match our reason, not the other way around. When the Israelites were told to march around Jericho over and over again, I'm sure some of them FELT stupid--what would have happened if they had let their feelings lead and their reason follow? When Christ taught about the Eucharist (John 6), many of His followers felt deeply disturbed and downright repulsed by the doctrine and left Him because it seemed wrong to them (and btw, verse 6:66 is the only time in the New Testament where it is recorded that Christ lost followers because of one of His teachings). St. Peter and the Apostles led with reason and subjected their emotions to it when they placed their faith in Christ regardless of how His teachings made them feel.

horacepthompkim No specific church has the only authority to preach the gospel. Authority comes from Scripture and Scripture alone. Even if Jesus had established a temporal organisation to fulfil His bidding, you would have to prove to me that the Roman Catholic Church can lay claim to that spiritual authority. Peter may have been the leader of the church in apostolic authority, but as it says in many time in the NT, he was an apostle to the JEWS, not the Gentiles/Rome. Your traditions are your authority on this matter, so maybe you should read about what Jesus thought about the traditions of man in Mark chapter 7.
The Eucharist is certainly not biblical and your statement about how the disciples left Him in disgust is a poor scriptural reference for it. In fact, you show that you understand His words as poorly as those disciples who left Him. He says in John 6:63 that the words he speaks are a spiritual metaphor. The adoration of the wafer is a heretical and blasphemous tradition that has its origins in the pagan temples of Rome. As if a priest has the power to call Jesus down from heaven so that He may be an eternal bloodless sacrifice on your altars. Its almost as if the Catholic church has never opened the book of Hebrews.
All of Catholicism is a version of Christianized paganism. It's no wonder that the Pope is called the Pontifex Maximus, the same title for the Pagan high priest of ancient Rome. The Catholic church is the harlot of Revelation and only has the authority to do the work of the devil.

+David Scholfield Your assertion that “no specific church has the only authority to preach the gospel” is a divine claim requiring a divine authority-you do not have the divine authority to make such a claim. You believe it because it feels right and because you would have to reevaluate your entire life if it were not right. That’s a lot of pressure, and I get that. But Truth is not something we can manipulate, because Truth is God. We can either find Him or we can become misled by the world, the flesh, and the devil. Have NO FEAR when seeking God-even if your search leads you places you never wanted to go.
When you say “authority comes from Scripture and Scripture alone” I first want to point out that no-where in
Scripture will you find that doctrine, so your assertion is self-defeating. Sola-Scriptura is a tradition of man (a particular man, in fact….I will never understand the Protestants’ blind faith in Martin Luther-he was a disgusting
      anti-Semitic).
Secondly, this leads me to another doctrinal problem NO Protestant has EVER been able to answer for when I ask them about it (and I’m open to you being the first! I posed the question to an SDA pastor the other day whom I was told could answer it….he couldn’t. I have found no Protestants answering it on the internet either. The only Protestants whom I HAVE heard explain it are now Catholic converts): Protestants presume--without explaining or certifying in any respect-two authorities when it comes to the Holy Scriptures.
      1) God did not hand the Apostles a completed Bible with instructions about which books were divinely inspired and
which books were not. Some Church who had the authority from GOD to make such decisions put the Bible together and declared definitively which books belonged and which books did not. Every time YOU open your Bible, you are accepting THAT authority-but you’ve never stopped to think about it, have you? SO. All Protestants who use any Bible that is not a Catholic Bible are PRESUMING the authority of the Catholic Church (who, if you’ll do some history research, put the Bible together and declared the infallibility of the books contained) AND the authority of Martin Luther (the insane ex-Catholic anti-Semitic)…some even presume the divine authority of Kind James too. Why the HECK do Protestants feel comfortable presuming those authorities where their eternal souls are concerned???
      2) It is obvious from Scripture itself as well as our experiences reading Scripture that interpretation is absolutely
required. Do YOU have the divine authority to declare definitively whether Christ meant “eat my flesh” figuratively or literally? Obviously His followers were coming to different conclusions, as do people today. So the second PRESUMED authority by all Protestants is the individual: they apparently believe that Scripture may be
interpreted by the individual (either themselves or their pastors or whathaveyou).
A typical conversation that I have repeated many times with Protestants of different backgrounds and denominations goes like this: They begin very politely and confidently, believing they speak with authority and Truth. At some point, I pose one of these questions/ issues to them. They start acting nervous and irritable. Their smiles disappear. They try to dodge the question. I explain how necessary it is that they be able to answer it-all of their beliefs rest upon their ability to answer it, in fact. Sooner or later they cut the conversation short-and before they answer the question-and leave.
I’m not trying to be rude here (I have many dear friends and family members who are still Protestants)-this has simply been my experience time and time again. I understand how fearsome it must be to be faced with a foundational question about your faith that you discover to your horror that neither you nor your pastor can answer, but I assure you: with God, the answers are ALWAYS available-but you must go forth without fear! NEVER stop your search for God out of fear of where it may lead! There is never any reason to fear growing close to God-even if it means becoming a Catholic.

ExtremeBlackAttack did you know, there are some churches that open new in a neighborhood and they would actually take a survey house to house to see what the people want in the church. They then would mold the church around that.. one church I know ended up with like a food court and daycare where the parents didn't have to attend church but could leave the kids off during church hours.. this is all to say they have "members".

Kathy Bates are we really lusting over ‘Christian’ leaders singers? Chris Brown? I know this is satire, but really. If you all are comparing real people for real, I’d check the Word. So a man thinketh in his heart, so he is. If young people so called Christians go beyond satire (which I’m hoping is to prove a point to the Christian community how shallow and ill focused we are in our walk with Christ) to compare reality, the church of God is worse of than I thought.

It is sad, but it makes perfect sense: Churches create this culture when they stretch themselves to more and more ridiculous lengths to people-please. Jesus never scrambled to reach a number quota, in fact he had a tendency to say some really difficult things with the intention of weeding out people who weren't serious about God (Matthew 13: 10-16). In other words, we can shake our heads at spoiled people, but it's only natural that they'd be spoiled when so many churches spend the majority of their time strategizing how to make the service about the preferences of the congregation instead of making it about teaching God's desire for our character.

Oh yes. So glad to hear there is a "Holy Bible: The Tumblr Version" . Of course ! And the concerns about needing to feel inspired but not convicted so its a comfortable experience. Awesome. Love the ways they describe the right "vibe " they are seeking. Attractive worship leaders, type of room and aesthetics, and Ted Talk with a Bible Verse. I continue to enjoy John D Crist original twists on things. This kind of humor helps point out how easy the no-God-world sneaks in to our thinking,.disguised , disrupting, never satisfied, self seeking, and negative.

Hahaha this hits the truth so right. I've been a church home cell leader for a few years now at University and some of the excuses I hear from young people as why they don't want to attend our church is just nonsense. One guy didn't appreciate the members shouting "Amen" when the pastor preached
