The SNL Band is always awesome. When I went to a taping, I loved the show itself, laughed my behind off, but I swear I could have just sat there that whole time listening to the band. They were just amazing. Music is my life so it was a realllllll treat for me.
Kiersten Simpson -- you are listening to Lenny Pickett, a master of sax he was from Tower of Power fame in 70's and 80's - check UA-cam for some fun(k) time with L-P He plays outside the instrument's range with great tone and predictability. Listen to a track called Knock Yourself Out. He has reverence like Hendrix from most sax players.
That is Lenny Picket. He is one of the greatest living sax players. Check out band called Tower of Power for more of his funk goodness (and tons of other bands too, but that is a really accessible one). Songs: squib cakes, soul vaccinations, down to the nightclub
That sax player is amazing!! I've watched SNL since the 80s. I remember when G. E. Smith was the band leader. I've always wished that they'd use this band as the musical act, at least once! That'd be awesome! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Here too is a nice clip, a slideshow I made in 2015 using the bumper photos from the second half of S40. The music is taken from a recording in early 2006, the SNL band warming up the crowd before the show. The song is The Stylistics' "Betcha By Golly Wow." vimeo.com/141240961
If you like lenny pickett, then you should listen to Tower Of Power, the funkiest band to ever be. He was with them for quite some time, and everyone else in the band brings just as much heat as he does! Couldn't recommend T.O.P enough if you've never given them a try.
@@gecafe Oh man! This is so good! Did you ever here the clip when they did People Get Ready? By far my favorite! ua-cam.com/video/JP01T4U3p_8/v-deo.htmlsi=UmxxmQQ9EFMJbZ5m&t=10
Loved hearing the percussionist up front in this corner of the room recording...usually she's mixed as 'sweetening' which has its place, but she's doing it up just the way I like it!
I did the studio tour in 1989. I remember being amazed how small the SNL studio really was. The full audience area is hidden by some set walls here, but there really isn't very much more to see than this!
The guy in the front? I assume he is playing the main theme to the opening credits. I think that's Lenny Pickett who is known for playing in the altissimo register on tenor sax. I could be wrong tho...
Madeline Gude Yes, the guy up front is Lenny Pickett but he's playing the alto sax that you see here. I'm sure he can play all 3 types tho (tenor, alto and baritone). I've seen him play a tenor and a baritone on the show occasionally but in the opening he always plays an alto. He's freaking awesome! I do know that! lol 🙂✌🏻
I absolutely adore the bassline in this song! Wonderful to actually see his fingers give that vibrato and make it seem effortless. Is there a name to this song? I've tried to find a high quality version of this but no luck so far...!
Wow, Pickett is a god. This is one of the coolest things ever, I feel like I'm inside of the studio! One day I'll be on that stage and I'll get to compliment Pickett in person!
I love innovative technology like this! Everything we can do we should do, that's why 3D movies are here to stay and why segway is America's most successful company.
Lenny Pickett is his name and saxophone is his game! He was an original member of the MIGHTY 'Tower of Power' and his résumé is tooooooo long to document.
sax players name is Lenny Picket check out video " Tower of Power - What Is Hip - 1973" to see him when he was 19 and playing with bay area band Tower of Power
Odd video, it says 4k but isn't, and the volume is unbelievably low. But the way everyone reacted to it 7 years ago leads me to believe it wasn't always like this.
Guys will you please please film the closing theme in 360 video with in that killer had audio. We love you guys..because of what u do....all of yall!!!, Ant
Is it sad that I can announce the whole season 42 intro just by listening to this? I'm sure you guys are switching up the whole opening titles, though. Might I suggest something? I was messing around on a guitar and came up with an AWESOME riff that I think would work well. Are you reading this, Scharff? You go from G to A to C. Instant classic! If you guys go with it, don't worry about royalties, it's all yours!
Shocking BAD QUALITY - this isn't even smartphone HD video audio. As a test I've used my Canon Cybershot camera's video recorder - it's a tossup on quality!
My wish is to someday get tickets to the 1130 live show ! if it went by seniority Id have them since I've been watching every show since the beginning ! I put in for the lottery but have never gotten the call . I was in HS back when it all started and at 1115 I'd go outside and smoke a doob and then I'd watch the show in my yellow beanbag chair lol ! Don't have the beanbag anymore but I still burn one or 2 lol !
Good to know I'm not the only one who has a puff or two before the Saturday Night show. I started that lottle tradition during season 40, before the PRINCE episode! That was fricken mind-blowing!
The SNL Band is always awesome. When I went to a taping, I loved the show itself, laughed my behind off, but I swear I could have just sat there that whole time listening to the band. They were just amazing. Music is my life so it was a realllllll treat for me.
I fricking love the SNL saxophone
Kiersten Simpson me too
It adds such a unique and distinct sound
Matt Stevens it really does!
That is SNL to me.

I've always watched the guy with the saxophone awkwardly laugh at the stand ups
Wowsers Bowsers Same
Wowsers Bowsers hahahahaha Same!
Ya he’s like the main guy
Lenny Pickett is a great Sax Man!
That is Lenny Picket. He is one of the greatest living sax players. Check out band called Tower of Power for more of his funk goodness (and tons of other bands too, but that is a really accessible one). Songs: squib cakes, soul vaccinations, down to the nightclub
The musical cues are so evocative and familiar; the show's history is in there.
I would buy the SNL Band's cd in a heartbeat.
sarah eccj 💀💀💀bib
if they got this gig then most of them probably played on some records
Or download it off of Kazaa
There was an SNL band CD released years ago.
Only pieces of $hit that live in moms basement do that. Actual real men and real women pay the artists for the heir work
You probably steal WiFi too

Yeah that's Lenny Pickett the king of altissimo. And his band is the funkiest of them all. They need to put out a "jam album."
what a good idea!!
Now this is 360 worthy.
Thumbs down on video audio quality. Anything can be uploaded at 1080p, your home movie from 1942.
The woman in the back is GORGOUS😍
What a pleasure. Thank you. One day I will be there in person.
Loved hearing the percussionist up front in this corner of the room recording...usually she's mixed as 'sweetening' which has its place, but she's doing it up just the way I like it!
Needs more cowbell.
Anna Fowdy 😂😂😂😂😂

just an old SNL 11/18/78. Carrie Fisher, the Blues Brothers. I remember this. I was 12. RIP Carrie and John . Thanks Dan.
I did the studio tour in 1989. I remember being amazed how small the SNL studio really was. The full audience area is hidden by some set walls here, but there really isn't very much more to see than this!
I'm sitting in my spinning chair right now...this is gonna be fun 😏
Cocoa Doodles SAME
I love their tenor sax player; he's my favorite!
Madeline Gude You mean alto sax? ✌🏻 A tenor sax is what Kenny G plays. 🙂
The guy in the front? I assume he is playing the main theme to the opening credits. I think that's Lenny Pickett who is known for playing in the altissimo register on tenor sax. I could be wrong tho...

I know! His technique is flawless, and he hits those high notes with ease
Madeline Gude 🙂 He's a badass! I'd love to watch him live one day! 🙂
my man's was playing the hell outta that sax
Lenny Pickett you are a legend!
I absolutely adore the bassline in this song! Wonderful to actually see his fingers give that vibrato and make it seem effortless. Is there a name to this song? I've tried to find a high quality version of this but no luck so far...!

SNL IS MY EVERYTHINGGFFGGG
That music reminds me of being a kid watching the show
I can only imagine how cool it looks.
I love innovative technology like this! Everything we can do we should do, that's why 3D movies are here to stay and why segway is America's most successful company.
Thanks for uploading! This is awesome!
This is so fun!! Love seeing this in 360!
I remember G.E. Smith and T Bone Wolk ( the guy with the hat) playing together when they were with the SNL Band. They were awesome!
I love the band now, but when GE was in it, that will always be my favorite era of the SNL band. R.I.P. T-Bone.
For the first 10 seconds im like how is this in 360 if the camera is not moving
Lenny Pickett is his name and saxophone is his game!
He was an original member of the MIGHTY 'Tower of Power' and his résumé is tooooooo long to document.
THIS IS SO AMAZINNNN
AWESOME!!!!
Looking around I feel like "So this is what its like to be in the bigtime"
360 degree video is a good idea
This makes me think of watching the opening to SNL.
The percussionist in the back is having too much fun
And no wonder. She's Valerie Naranjo, if I'm right.
sax players name is Lenny Picket check out video "
Tower of Power - What Is Hip - 1973"
to see him when he was 19 and playing with bay area band Tower of Power
After all these years, it's like, oh that's what the audience looks like
Cool vid! I love snl!!
What if they made all their skits 360?
That would be cool, but then they would have to record it twice or have a giant camera in the middle of the set
Waw! impressive!
saxophone man is the best
Perfect.
Wow!
The video starts at 0:00 thank me later...
Sad!
amazing band
More like this please!
omg this is crazy I like this 360 thing lol
Whoa. I never saw a 360 vid before. Slick. (I discovered it by accident second time through!)
I love that more big movers and shakers in entertainment are putting vr content online
David Pumpkins 360?
Sucks that the board audio wasn't used. Would love to hear studio versions of the various SNL themes with the current band.
Love the tenor sax
Me too!
I watch SNL & listen to music with headphones. - What's up with all I can hear is the drums?! :(
- Cool 5 string bass!
forgot the 2 hours of long tones and tuning like every freaking band ive ever seen...
oml yass this made my day
Baddest band in the land
All the heavy NYC cats
Sounds Amazing!! what's the girl in the back looking at? 😛
So cool.

I didn't realize the stage was that big
This was awesome

Didn't like the video but I like the SNL band. I think they are so underrated
Lenny's the man

Pretty cool!
These are all just grown up band kids omg
The drummer fucking around with the sax player around the 1min mark was priceless.
Very nice
That’s a pretty cool video.
I would love to be on the cast.
Twould be a dream come true!

I thought they play the same tunes every saturday
Lit

holy shit 2160s
You need a vc head set it would be so much cooler
Clicked because I saw a tenor saxophone (the most sexy type, closely followed by baris)
Surprised how little views this has.
Where's the trumpet player??
SO COOL!!!!!! :-D
does this work with a phone
This is just ambient sound, not through the board I guess.
James Genus on bass…
If someone could get me the name of this drummer. Having trouble finding it.

how does this work
What happened to the Creating SNL Music video? I see it's been taken down. Were there rights issues?
it doesn t matter what you watch on youtube but the damn 360 camera is always bad quality. Not a fan of it.
SNL Band is top!!
lenny pickett is the best
Needs more bass
360p stretched to 2k xD
Shocking BAD QUALITY - this isn't even smartphone HD video audio. As a test I've used my Canon Cybershot camera's video recorder - it's a tossup on quality!
Lousy audio and video quality. WTF??
SNL band deserves to record their own album.
My wish is to someday get tickets to the 1130 live show ! if it went by seniority Id have them since I've been watching every show since the beginning !
