      q7w7e7r7t7y7u7i7o7p Beezy is right. Vettel was allowed to change the setup of the car because he started from the pits. Therefore he went for topspeed (normally grip and lower top speeds, RBs hit the limiter fairly soon always up until the end of 2012), with the downforce still available to the RB doing the rest in the corners.

      No Vettel and Alonso are both very good drivers. But I think Alonso is a little bit better than Vettel, because he is in difficult situation (fu****g ferari) fast, too. But Vettel has in this season so much like Hungary : SC, then the drift but that wasnt so important, Austria : 1 Lap no power, Monaco: very good start but no power. The same in australia

    It's funny to see people say he only won because of his car, but when Hamilton won 4 championships with a WAY more dominant car than the Red Bull, nobody pays attention to that, it's sad of how salty some people are, 2010 and 2012, the car was not too dominant as the Red Bull lacks a bit of reliability.

The last IMPRESSIVE champ was Schumacher in 1994 who won the title in the Benetton Ford who only had a V8 engine, Williams and the most other teams a V10!!! The best car is part of a champion because they all can drive fast. Vettel's overtaking here was amazing. Good job.

      The pole ratio in 1995 was 12:4 in favor of Williams. I guess that was because Coulthard and Hill were such amazing qualifiers, eh? No, Williams was just the outright best car.
      In 2006, Ferrari won 9 races to 8 races for Renault. Massa's results were overall better than Fisichella's. Alonso just drove better than Schumi that season.
      Likewise in 2008, Ferrari won 8 races to only 6 for McLaren. Ferrari had the best car, Hamilton made the difference.

Not being able to beat Raikkonen with a better car in Abu Dhabi and then not being able to win in Brazil despite the car literally being Merc-tier overpowered in the rain will forever stain his legacy, which right now can be summed up in a single phrase: "good, but there was always at least someone out there who was better."

    Alonso and Hamilton are "better" than Vettel?
    Last 5 years (2009-Present)
    Vettel - 60 podiums, 37 wins and 43 poles
    Alonso - 42 podiums, 11 wins and 5 poles
    Hamilton - 32 podiums, 13 wins and 18 poles
    Vettel has 13 MORE GP wins than Alonso and Hamilton COMBINED in the last 5 years and 20 more pole positions than both of them COMBINED as well. This alone illustrates that Vettel is in a completely different category. Numbers do not lie.
    Historically the best driver with the best car dominates. That is not to say that the best drive always has the best car. If we put the best car over the past 5 years into the hands of say, Jensen Button there is no mathematical probability that he could have achieved anything close to similar results. The only way that is mathematically possible is if there was a VAST difference in performance and speed between their two cars consistently over the past 5 years in every race. Such a vast difference does not exist.
    Analysis: The skeptics say the "car" is why Vettel wins and not his driving ability. There is no way to calculate any type of mock statistic here but we can hypothetically swap Hamilton and Vettel into each others cars for the past five years. We cannot use Alonso because he has the "second best car" within the last five years given his results and therefore it would be illogical that Vettel's car and not his driving ability is again vastly superior to his closest competition. In this hypothetical scenario Vettel had been driving Hamilton's cars for the pest 5 years - however only with McLaren as the Mercedes transition and car issues are too difficult to figure in. For the sake of argument let's remove HALF of Vettel's achievements over the past 5 years. That is already far more generous seeing as his car is not "twice as good" as his closest competitor nor that of Hamilton's McLaren. This puts Vettel with roughly 30 podiums, 19 wins and 22 poles. Although this a mock scenario we can see that Vettel's numbers are on par with Hamilton over the course of five years when slashing his results in half and putting him in the hypothetical third best car.
    If you continue to break down the numbers and facts you reach a core question: Why is Vettel 2x higher than his closest competition? His car is clearly not 2x faster.
    Faster car? Look at this from a logical stance and nothing more. Take the top 5 drivers and put them all in Vettel's car for GP qualification. Pretend in all 5 examples each of the drivers set the best lap and attains pole position. Imagine a mock race with 4 overlays on the screen. Vettel is P1 but the second overlay is a ghost image of Alonso in P1 and so on. On the ghost overlays you have the normal drives in their poled positions. For example if Alonso in his own car has P9 then he is P9 in every layer except the layer where he is P1. Got it? The race begins and P1 moves slightly ahead.. but here is the problem with this.. Alonso and Webber tend not to have the best starts so either of them might be overtaken by P2 or P3 into turn one. If you try writing this out by yourselves.. lap by lap (skip around), how many scenarios can you play out where P1 is 32.6+ seconds ahead of P2 and 53.1+ seconds ahead of P5?
    I am not talking about racing ability and variables here.. just pure math and logic alone. A potentially slightly faster car beating P2 by 32.6 seconds in a GP (2013 Singapore)? To be technically correct Rosberg started in P2 for grid - P1 beat original P2 by a spread of 51.1 seconds. Rosberg might have encountered various delays and it is a testament to Alonso going from P7 to 2nd.
    Sorry for how long this is! All intellectual replies are welcomed. Try to keep it calm and use only facts and not personal opinions. Basing your opinions off of hard facts are fine :)

      Facts? okay how abut the fact that when red bull was given a situation where mercedes, lotus and ferrari were as quick earlier this season, all they did was winge and cry and say "we want new tyres", that ruined this years racing

    • @Wodz30
      @Wodz30 10 років тому +6

      Raj Ravichandran Where is your point here? Thanks for actually reading my book though lol. I recall that earlier in the year many teams were basically boycotting Pirelli and demanding changes because there were serious issues during one or two races.. I believe this was right before Monza. We can cite numerous teams making heavy public complaints about tires during the season so is it far fetched to come to a potential conclusion that Red Bull was also having tire issues? I also wonder (and this is an open question) if Red Bull's tire issue were slowing them down and therefore other teams were just as quick because of the differential or were those 3 other teams somehow able to manipulate their cars over whatever course of time and suddenly we have 4 teams having the fastest cars on the track at the same time? If the latter were actually true we would have seen this throughout the past few seasons. If the latter were true it would mean each of the races where the 4 teams are "as quick" would result in theoretical photo finish races where the separation is within a few seconds at best. To analyze your comment - other cars=as fast, red bull complains = season sucks. This seems like a very closed minded and biased view you are throwing at me. Tire issues were a giant highlight of this season for all teams.

      pablouvedoble I have deleted your disrespectful post. Senna died at the peak of his career and everyone says he would have went on to become the best racer in F1 history due to the numbers he was going to post. The path he was on showed that he was going to potentially break all of the records. More importantly Senna's pure racing style was mind blowing and changed the history of F1. Schumacher himself declares that Senna is the best racer of all time. To come here and say that since the numbers alone indicate Schumacher was better than Senna on paper just to try and prove me wrong is extremely disrespectful to the memory of Senna, to F1, to the people here and most importantly to yourself. We simply speculate that Senna would have went down as the best in history and with great respect for his legacy we all simply bow down and grant him the title of GOAT and I join the millions around the world in doing so. Never use the shortened life of Senna to try and prove a point against me.

    • @bigsteviecool1872
      @bigsteviecool1872 10 років тому +3

      Obviously the Red Bull car is not twice as good as the others, what do you expect the other cars to be setting lap times double the amount of Red Bull's? The car doesn't need to be double as good as others, it doesn't really matter whether it's 10,5 or even 1 second a lap faster any decent driver would be able to win in that car. So for you to say halving Vettel's achievements is a more than fair way to compare him to Alonso and Hamilton is stupid, it really is. There is no exact percentage you can take off Vettel's stats to make a fair comparison, it just doesn't work. Also it's quite clear that Alonso hasn't had the 2nd best car over the last 5 years. Overall in a whole season he has only had the 3rd best car at best.
      Senna R.I.P real shame what happened to him! However you try and use stats to back up you're claim about Vettel being great and then when the stats are not in you're favour with Senna you just magically make them up and assume he would have got them which is nonsense. Senna was a bit of a cheat tbh and not the greatest sportsman of all time. He cheated Prost out of a title and that's the bottom line. I see comparisons between Senna and Schumacher but the only difference is Senna never gets called out for the BS that he done. Also there is no guarantee Senna would have even won another world title and he probably should only have had 2 heading into the 94 season. This ain't disrespectful, it's just the truth.

    That's Seb, not the car. I've never seen Webber go so much faster than other drivers in the exact same car, while Vettel can do it. Also, you have to remember that he won a race in a Toro Rosso in extremely difficult conditions, something that people forget very often these days. Seb has the best car, you can safely say that, but it's his talent which makes him do all these seemingly impossible things.

    Vettel has 3 championships, 30 victories, 53 podiums, 39 poles and 18 fastests laps. all of that in 111 starts. Also win in an inferior car in 2008 and amazing performances in Abu Dhabi and Brazil 2012, with Britain 2010.
    Alonso has 2 championships, last won in 2006, 32 victories, 92 podiums, 22 poles and 20 fastest laps. Also plentiful of "Fernando is faster than you" and "we need to hope", bunch of excuses.

    A lot of people keep saying the car this year "doesn't suit Vettle's style". That is a understandable argument, but part of F1 is adapting to what ever car you are in. If Riccardo can adapt better to different cars than he deserves three wins and countless number of fantastic drives this season. Year by year cars change and In my opinion adapting to the car is just as important as just being fast in the right conditions(Reb Bull 2010-2013). Vettle is a great driver in my opinion, but I do believe he is over rated and Hamilton and Alonso show the most talent and consistency in ANY car year after year. I know I just started a shit storm with Vettle fans or Lewis haters :/

    only one question to all vettel haters : why you hate him... he never said bad things about someone, he never did something like alonso in his hungarypitstop(in q3)2007, his team radios after a race are sometimes funny (like yabadabahdu ringdingedingdingding in barcelona 2011). the only reason i think why you hate him, is because he is successfull. so in 2009 no one really hated him (maybe a few) in monza 2008 all celebrated him but now everyone forget that

    Apparently, Schumacher's Benetton had a "razor thin" sweet spot which made it extremely difficult to drive. Well 9 wins and the total decimation of Hill in a Newey designed car speaks volume for the sheer brilliance of Michael Schumacher. The best was yet to come. Senna once spoke of going to Ferrari when his best days were over. Schumacher went to Ferrari and rewrote history!

    Verne and Schumacher let him pass and Rosberg, Hamilton, Grosjean, Perez, Webber and Massa crashed(wich mostly drive in top 10 during a GP).
    Then made a awesome overtake on Button.
    But the RedBull team helping him by changing Webber's strategy and bringing him in way earlier, and the 2nd SC is what brought him on the podium, normally a race driver dont gets this amount of luck in 1 single GP.. but fun to watch

What about Hamilton, who was with McLaren from beginning and always had a good car?

    What I remember is that it took him about 3 laps to damage his front wing wich he could replace after a incident with toro rosso during the safetycar, wich killed his tire strategy, so was forced to a 1 stop, and after everyone did their 2nd stop wich gave Vettel 2nd place, a magical 2nd safetycar came and give him a free pitstop and could close up behind Button with new tires who was 20 seconds infront of him before SC..
    But those moves on Marussia and HRT and Grosjean were incredible

      Dan Brewer The irony is the red bull cars are one of the slowest in the straights. The reason he is overtaking the, is his car has far more downforce so he can get far better exits and corner exit speed is 10-15mph higher then most of the backmarkers he overtook and on fresh tires at the end. Only this year in 2014 they have managed to close gap abit in top speed to smaller teams by running skinny wings but obviously the mercedes destroy the red bull in acceleration to top speed.

      Definetly the 2 safety cars of the race were ''enable'/called in the right time after vettel's pit stop. So he didn't lose time at all because of the safety car. In addition, he was stopping before all of hte cars on track, so when the safety car came in, all those cars, except Vettel, were still needing to pit stop for tyre change. It was more luck and strategy than hability or the car in this race.

    Well, Vettel does have the best car, but who's to say that Alonso or Hamilton can do better given the same car? Vettel already has a huge advantage over the Ferraris and Mercedes', would you say he was a better driver if he won by even bigger gaps? I'd say that would be even more fucking boring to watch. Whatever Vettel seems to do is directly attributed to the car and the brain of Adrian Newey, but Vettel is just making use of his better equipment

    • @Wodz30
      @Wodz30 10 років тому +14

      Regardless of Vettel's car he tends to get really great starts during the actual races. If he is not starting P1 in virtually every race we can deduce that either the car is not as fast or the driver is less superior on that track compared to another driver or there was some type of issue. The fact that Vettel does not get P1 for every race shows that other cars were faster around the track than his car. My point to this being that if his car was in fact MUCH FASTER than it would be down to mechanical issues or driver errors for him to not attain P1 in each race. People saying Vettel has a faster car is fine but there is a limited amount of logic behind a statement like that. He does have plenty of issues from time to time with the car and his car cannot legally be much faster than the other cars. His potential advantage over the other drivers is extremely small given that F1 has turned into an engineering battle. With that said the "best car" should only be winning a race within a few seconds (under 5) because the advantage is not insurmountable. Winning a race by 30+ seconds is a clear indication that the driver and not the car destroyed the opposition.
      Alonso has issues with qualification runs which results in his grid starts. That forces him to try and make up for lost positioning. Alonso is a really great driver but he (like everyone) has his issues. Alonso also tends to have some issues on starts as well and in most races we find Alonso attempting to make up positions throughout the race. In contrast there are races where Alonso drives brilliantly and dominates everyone else. Hamilton makes more mistakes than Alonso and this season has shown that Hamilton might be losing mental confidence in his abilities OR his car is just garbage.. one or the other during each race. In my opinion Raikkonen is a superior driver to Hamilton and I am very excited to see what he can do back in a Ferrari.
      Saying something like "Vettel already has a huge advantage over Ferrari and Mercedes" is a very powerful and empty statement. This is only possible if Ferrari and Mercedes have been plagued by problems throughout virtually every race for the past 4 years consecutively. Red Bull has a slight advantage over Ferrari and Mercedes and this can be proven with facts time and again. All teams have had various problems with the cars but few people are bothering to bring the drivers into question. Button for example has slumped heavily over the past 3 years and this might be due to confidence instead of saying his car is simply inferior for every race over the past 3 years. The drivers desire to win and their confidence are paramount in all sports. Take Alonso this year; he starts Bahrain in P3 and finishes 8th. In the very next race he is obviously motivated being in Spain and badly wants to win. He starts P5 and wins the race but then the very next race in Monaco he starts P6 and ends 7th. These three races can illustrate that the driver of the car is playing a massive factor behind their own abilities. Vettel's "huge advantage" is his own confidence and nothing more. There is probably not much difference between his driving ability and that of his competitors. His car holds a small advantage IF applied absolutely correctly during the entire race weekend.
      Logic alone explains that if he wins by even larger gaps then he is a superior driver within that race unless you fool-heartedly believe Red Bull is cheating and their car is holding a "huge advantage" over the field. Many people turned away from F1 while Schumacher was dominating F1 each season. The same happened while Jordan dominated the NBA and Roger Federer dominated pro tennis. I have met many people who turned their back to their sports during those periods and I have questioned why they would do such a thing and they simply say "the sport is boring when someone is dominating it". People obviously thrive to see a competitive sport and are usually too pre-occupied to notice they are witnessing world history in the making. Rather than embracing world records being broken at every turn by this young professional many people lash out and complain that the races are boring since the same person continues to excel. This type of thinking is absurd and has no place in professional sport. If the sport is lacking competition then it is the fault of the competitors to better themselves and pose a formidable challenge in order to create competition. The truth about F1 is that Vettel has a pure desire to win and be the best and he is willing to go out there during each race and give it 100%. Webber is 37, Alonso is 32 and Button is 33 - as racers we have seen all of them dip over the past few years. There comes a point where you have been racing for so long and things are simply not going your way. How much are they going to fight for their lives out there to try and string together GP titles? Schumacher's come back illustrates that even with a superior driver in a decent car, age and desire make the most difference. Schumacher had nothing to prove out there to win. I am sure he would have liked to have won some GP titles just to make himself feel accomplished about his return but being older and having all of the success behind you really takes away from the ability to dig deep and push. Hamilton is only 28 and should be posting much better results. My opinion is that when his confidence and desire to win is at its highest he posts his best results (obvious in psychology). This does not appear to be a consistent trend with him and he seems to let the problems of the team and the car weigh too much on himself. His results this year have been terrible. Five poles, 4 P2 starts and 1 GP win. The great poles should be an indication that his car is not the biggest issue for Mercedes.
      F1 has become a battle of the garages. The cars are all extremely similar now and this will continue and tighter. If this is boring for you the best suggestion is to stop watching the sport. I am enjoying watching world history unfold before my eyes. I do not enjoy that the races are so technical and I rather enjoy the racing of the 90's to this by a far margin but we cannot change what has happened in F1.
      "Whatever Vettel seems to do is directly attributed to the car and the brain of Adrian Newey," - Adrian is the team manager and Vettel is his subordinate. The employee listens to the boss.. business tends to work best that way. F1 is no longer being dominated by the drivers pure abilities where they are put onto a track and can do whatever they like. The sport is fully controlled by the team and Vettel is a key component of that team. This is why you hear Vettel over team radio after a win saying "I love you guys, I believe in you, you are the best". He is not saying "I am the best, I am number one and I did this alone". Vettel is very humble and quite aware that the only reason he even has a chance to win ANY GP event is due to the superior efforts of his team as a whole.

      Wodz30 "Vettel's "huge advantage" is his own confidence and nothing more".
      Alonso is considered the best driver in F1. So is not about the confidence.
      This race, Abu Dhabi, came after winning 4 consecutive races. Vettel had the best car in the track, and you can see it:
      He can brake 10 meters later, he can push the throttle before, he has more grip in high speed corners...
      Dude, are you trying to say that if you are old you have no motivation to win? You don't have more than 30 years, right?
      All i want is a good teammate to Vettel. Ricciardo is not a bad driver, but i want Hamilton or Hulkenberg. Next season we are gonna see if Alonso the best driver or not. Teams like Raikonen-Alonso is what F1 needs.

    I am not a hater and I am not bitching at all. Sounds more like you. My point was and still is simply the fact that I believe there are at least 3 better drivers than Vettel who proved to win/podium with a car that on a rank is 6 or 7th etc. The overtakes in the video are pretty much regular, a part from 1.
    Your question: it's more complicated than that; they share GENERAL info, but not always (eg Prost/Senna); cars are personalized and don't forget they are still competing against each other
