If you watch complete episodes or more clips of QI, you'll see Stephen Fry break and bested many times. Phil Jupitus the guy with the beard & glasses flirts with him teasingly a lot and Stephen quite often falls for it!
I'd have thought the rowing up the mountain phrase meant "many hands make light work" rather than too many cooks?
"Wagging the dog" is probably a shortened version of "The tail wagging the dog", which means something is happening the wrong way around or a smaller group having undue influence over a larger group.

Katherine has anglicized that Canadian phrase for the benefit of the UK audience, it's actually "f*#king the dog" and means messing around not doing anything useful. I.E wasting time.

He played a psychologist or therapist ... who became a chef... something like that. It was more than a cameo, happened only a few times but it was a real character.
Stephen appeared in bones a few times.
Excellent actor, Byron, Blackadder and Hugh Laurie and his teamwork hilarious and still the best audiobooks narrator of Harry Potter, imo. I bought his epic audible on Greek myths and his autobiographies are fascinating. Too much fandom, I apologise. 👵😂🇬🇧

Shagging the dog is the Korean idiom for don't play with your food.
Katherine is half right. Nobody says “shagging the dog”, it’s “f’ing the dog”.
For example:
At work:
“Where’s Pete?” ,
“I don’t know, probably f’ing the dog”.
Meaning,probably doing nothing productive.

You are still here. I’m sure with their 103,000 subscribers, if you did choose to leave their channel you would be a great loss to them.
@@jackhagens8964 I haven't watched their channel since I posted the comment, I switched it on after UA-cam highlighted they had launched a new clip and since they usually do reactions to QI I was hoping it was a QI clip, alas it wasn't so I immediately turned it off when I found out it was MM and by the way they are two adults, I'm sure they can defend themselves but that would take precious seconds to reply to a comment and it seems they need a guardian angel to wipe away their tears, grow up and let people fight their own battles, I bet you are another septic defending two fellow septics, god bless the Untied States of America

I know the term 'that's the tail wagging the dog' ie a small or unimportant part of something is becoming too important and is controlling the whole thing.

QI improved hugely with Sandi in my opinion ( nothing against Steven Fry, but much more fun).
