I used Shimano SPDs when I started MTB with a HT, as I found I just got bounced off flats, then switched to flats when I got a full sus trail bike as I wanted to be able to bail easily, but I miss the quick precise foot placement you get with clipless. The explanation of those crank brothers now has me thinking they might be the perfect middle ground; thanks Doddy!
I learnt to ride SPD earlier this year out of necessity and went straight in with my dads tightness and worn single release clips but still not as tight was my brother
I remember being a kid when Specialized released their first MTB skate style shoes with cleats. It was probably around 96-98ish. They were so cool looking, and even though I never had SPD pedals, I just loved showing off to my mates that my shoes had a little metal plate under the sole. That meant they were “proper” riding shoes 😎😂 Edit: It’s 20+ years on and I’ve still never used SPD’s 😲 And yes, I’m so out of touch, any pedals with clips/clipless/cleats are SPD as far as I’m concerned 😂
i was a skeptical guy about clipless pedals as I ride enduro and I thought that they were going to be dangerous but as soon as I tried them I fell in love with em. They give you a lot of security, you know that your foot will always be on the pedal. Of course is personal preference. I would recommend everybody that runs flats to run clipless and viceversa. It is a good experience and you can learn from it
I have a pair of fooker pedals that in the two years I've had them I've never had to replace the bearings or regrease it . Only things I've had do to to them was replace the screw pegs
I think I might start on crankbrothers then switch to shimano saint or xt depending on how much I like clips or if i just wanna stay on crank bros. Thanks doddy
#AskGMBNTech where do you get all the spare components for videos? For example when blake rips a chain with a saw with sak pilgrim, do you reuse the chain? Or just throw it?
@@basicmtber3840 I have tried loads of flats and bearings type are so few but are the best. I have tried a few German makes and there very good but bushes are high wear and do my head in and I have 2017 Raceface atlas and are easy one you get the rebuild kit and than bearings.
At 2:00 you say the pedals are threaded anticlockwise to prevent the pedals from becoming undone. Actually it's the other way around. If you don't tighten your pedals sufficiently they can become undone as you pedal. Think about it; the crank arm rotates clockwise but the pedal moves anticlockwise relative to the crank arm.
60 y/o newbie here. Fascinating, thanx.
Welcome to the otherside dude 👊😎

Mallet DH is great
They're great aren't they. I have the Stamp 7 in large and feel dirty at the dmr memories 🤢
Thanks Doddy, since I've always ridden flats never knew the difference between the 2 types of clip pedals.

weird flex but ok
@@basicmtber3840 no flex, just saying I’ve never used em 🤷🏻♂️
I've never tried clips. I doubt I'll even try them now I got my new 5tens😍
yeah i feel they would be too sketchy
yes, the Stealth sole by 5.10 is a game changer ;o)

Question is who was wearing the pretty white heels in the snapshot? @1:06
🤣 he was going to be my first guess seems the sort that would dress up as a women Halloween
Be good to see some tech breakdown on the new magnetic 'clip in' (stick on?) Pedals.
Great video, can you buy them park tool table mats?
Which video / cutting program do you use for this great stuff? Thanks ✌️
I think I might start on crankbrothers then switch to shimano saint or xt depending on how much I like clips or if i just wanna stay on crank bros. Thanks doddy
I like the knew dizziness
Lol ~~~~~~~ love that high heel riding!!!!
Looking for a set of giant pinner pro spindles
How you like the crank Brother peddal?
Is it just me or is 8:16 a bit of a reference to Seth 😆
him calling seth a pro ?
@@basicmtber3840?
I thought the same, but kinda different. : )

Crank Brothers for flats. Shimano for clipless. Easy
Raceface Atlas pedals are the only flats as they have bearing only so no crap bushes as they never are any good.
that is true this man spitting straight facts

Only on one side! One is regular thread, one is reverse thread. So they don't unscrew as u pedal
Anyone know why I keep snapping pedals @ the axel this happened 2x where it would slide off the axel itself..Shimano saint
1:05 This is wrong on so many levels
Crank brothers design came off back of the Time pedals ATAC design...
1:06 So which presenter has the kink?
In romania , cclipless pedals are called automatic pedals
Its so strange
I’m not a pro but ride aggressively. I’m on the whole other end. Barely clipped in
You forgot the eggbeater man.
k
Clipless pedals must be one of the most stupid retained terms in the cycling world. Call a spade a spade guys...its either a flat pedal or a clip in.
2nd
👍🏼👍🏼
First!
My pedals took themselves apart
Yeah, this is rocketscience, if you don't put your pedal correct together your bike will explow ... thanks Doddy ... omg
even these pedals are too small for me
cupless pedals 🤣
