I had never heard of Joe Bonamassa, and then I was looking at the Gibson website and they announced a new Joe Bonamassa signature guitar, and I thought “If he gets a signature guitar, how good a player must he be?” so I checked him out on UA-cam, and before you know it I and two of my friends are in front of the stage in The Old Royal Navy College in Greenwich… then again at Hampton Court Palace… and then Joe’s music is carrying me through stage four cancer to remission!
Norm’s guitar of the day videos and Joe’s music helped get me through a very dark time in 2018-19.
Thanks Joe and Norm (and Michael Lemmo).

I'm 63 now and have been playing guitar for about 50 years. If I had one guitar player who's life I could live, it would be Joe Bonamassa. Guitarist extraordinaire, guitar geek and cigar aficionado......and just a good dude!

I love it because he just loves to play. Only 2 things I ever wanted to do were play guitar and fly. Ended up flying for a career but I still play everyday and still play in bands. I still have the passion that I wish I could perform almost everyday. Admittedly it’s a bit harder when you’re doing all the setup and tear down but it’s still worth it. Watching him play and seeing his passion is like living your dream through him. His story is a great one.

Good to see that Norm is loking good again. I prayed for him when he was ill and to my recollection this might be one of the first times I have seen him in a video and looking like he is back to his same old self which is really great to see. God is good and answers prayers when we intercede for others, just sometimes the answers we get are not always as we might expect or within our own time frame, it is a very delicate thing, and the Lord's will is entirely up to Him but I love that he chooses to let us be involved in praying for others, and our earnest Prayers for others, whoever they are -- will have powerful results. See: James 5:16, Prayer does Work folks.

That looks like the ‘62 Strat I bought in 1978 with money I saved from mowing lawns. It was refinished dark green almost black. I took it to George’s music in Kansas City on North Oak and had it refinished in Fender Candy Apple Red but kept all the original pickup covers and pick guard. It was a great first professional instrument. I traded it in 1980 to Jim Colclasure (Kansas City area vintage dealer) with $1000 for my 1959 Gibson ES-345.

Man, I feel like Joe was bummed people didn't understand how good this year's SG was. Everyone got so caught up on the damn pickups. It's a super rare model of sg. There's not exactly a production Gibson equivalent. And getting a custom shop made would be 10x the epiphones. And then you couldn't gig it in good conscious!
I'm sure he won't see this, but I'll say. I bought one, and it blows a lot of thr Gibson standard, and 61 reissue that I've played, out of the water. It's closer to a Gibson custom than Gibson would care to admit. The wood on my example is gorgeous. So is the REAL MOP custom inlay.
If people used their ears and not their eyes/country of origin to judge pickups, they'd realize they sound pretty damn good. (pickup height is important and balancing the middle position to a sound you like)
I also think epiphone should've really pushed the solid two piece body, the inlays, and the single piece neck. It seemed like a lot of marketing went towards the tuners, which are gorgeous and feel premium, but don't really sell a guitar imo. But I know nothing about marketing tbf.
I feel like epiphone did Joe dirty with this greeny release being so close, and having the gibby headstock.
