  • A subscriber called me and asked me some question about why his Cat 3024c engine would throttle up. So I made a video of how the cover is supposed to function. I hope this helps

    This is a great video thanks so much. Very informative! I have a shut off issue with this engine. Cat 226B with a 3024C in it and two weeks ago we had a diesel runaway situation with thick black smoke where the operator did not know where the emergency shutoff was and the machine shutdown by itself. During this none of the electronics where functional . We let if cool and now we can start and operate the machine but it wont shut down. I removed the solenoid and bench tested it as well as the voltage from the key and it seems fine. I took it to the local Cat service people and after a week of nothing but telling me I need a new solenoid I pulled the machine out and ordered the part myself. Now the problem is that the threads on the new solenoid dont match the original and either does the clip. The service shop put the Cat part at $430 plus it requires a jumper clip at $125 The part I have was only $65 but is useless. My question is if in a runaway situation if the no shutoff is related to overheating those springs inside the linkage cover? Could that be the actual problem because we have both no shutoff and also engine surging from idle. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Steve, just a quick note to thank you for the video. I know it was a while ago but I bought a Perkins 100.25 2 cylinder and have started to rebuild it. The manual on the timing cover springs sucks and watching your video gave me the info I needed.... Got love You Tube!

    Working on a new holland tc29 the shibaura diesel is identical. I have governor issues too. My camshaft governor setup is identical as well. I didn't know cat and perkins must have bought the rights to this from shibaura. I'm having issues with engine repair specs on this governor portion. Thanks so much for posting. Mine is a 3 cylinder

      I actually thought this Shibaura N844 was known as a cat 3024.. I bought a new Holland ls160 and the engine has a Cat valve cover on it..

    Thanks again for the video brother..question.. I bought a frank no start new Holland with this engine, they supposedly replaced the injection lump and injectors, i replaced glow plugs and took injectors apart and cleaned them good. Replaced the shut off solenoid and fuel pickup pump and wired it to a toggle so i can either keep it pumping or shut it down if it starts but it hasn't even attempted to fire.
    I can't seem to get fuel to the number 2 injector when i crack the line. The old solenoid plunge is bent and marred up like they tried removing injection pump without removing it first.
    I'm thinking they screwed up the linkage, it won't come out as if there's something holding it where that shut off piece slides in and out of the pump. Also doesn't have the spring or bar/bolt for the emergency shut down just a little cylindrical piece with a hole through the center. I really need to get the oil cooler out of my way so i can pull the cover, is there a pressure relief for the hydraulic system i need to worry about before i crack that hard line on the oil cooler?
    Also when removing/installing the injection pump does the cam need to be in any certain position? I appreciate any help brother! Would also appreciate any leads on replacement part supplier.. Thanks again bro!

    Hey Stephen I'm stuck with one of these c2.2 engines and she is stubborn to start during colder weather, after 10 - 15 min of messing with it, it will start throw a bit off black smoke and go. After that for the rest of the day it starts perfectly, I replaced the glow plugs no difference. I need advise please??????

    Hi Steve, Query, on these engines, I just fitted a new pump, disassembled & marked as i took apart, fitted alloy pump body to block then the timing gear & pump inner, lined up washer on outer part of pump with peg in front cover,Assembled & put analogue gauge on it to check oil pressure, Now i av no oil pressure, What av i done wrong or over looked, ??, Ta M

    I just found you channel. So a friend had a perkins engine in a skid steer. It through a rod. He asked me to find one. Perkins 404c-22. We live in Canada. I found a builder in Ontario. Had it shipped to him. It came almost complete. The injection pump had just been rebuilt. He got someone else to swap parts over and do the install. Now it is very had to start, glow plugs work. The shop said that he needs an electric fuel pump as well as the mechanical one. I live 6 hours away from him Just wondering where the check valves are and anything else that might be causing a hard start. What kind of fuel pressure there should be. I am a licensed heavy duty tech, my friend has not much mechanical experiance.

      He does not need an electric fuel pump. Those engines have a mechanical fuel pump and it works great. Much more reliable than an electric fuel pump.
      These are easy starting engines if everything is correct. I have one in my skid loader with 6400hrs and it fires immediately even when it’s 20 degrees out.

    Great video on the timing cover. When I installed mine after an engine rebuild the fuel shut off moves the lever for the injector pump. But when I move the throttle lever nothing moves? Is this normal?
    Also I had a question about timing. When I set all the timing marks so they line up the #1 piston is not at TDC? Is it supposed to be?

    Hello Stephen, I can see a small cylindrical tube under the fuel injection pump. What does that do? From my engine, CAT 3013, I can turn it around without feeling any resistance.

    Quick question, I have the N843 Perkins, everything essentially the same except 3 cylinders and mine does not have a manual shutdown lever. I am having no throttle response from the throttle cable. Everything inside the cover is put together as it should be. With the pump removed the lever governor linkage to the pump only moves about an 1/8- 1/4". Is this correct. I bent the slide rod and it was stuck at wide open throttle so It will idle up but the linkage is not making it do so. I tried to call the number from one of your videos but it is no longer accepting calls. Any advice would help.

    Seems these CAT/Perkins/Shabura engines have a lot of oil system /pump related failures.
    Can you share any “best practices” to avoid this.
    I am considering a prelube system that will also provide auxiliary oil should the mechanical oil system experience supply pressure issues. Seem like a good idea to you?

    If this solenoid fuel shutoff fails and stays closed, if continuous pressure is applied to the throttle linkage will it be able to bypass the solenoid to start the machine?
    I am getting no fuel to injects and believe it to be fuel shutoff solenoid. Wondering if can get the machine running to move it before replacing stuff.

    Hi Steve ,I have a problem with the governor set up on a n844t shibaura engine that's in a new holland skid steer I have to keep moving the throttle up and down to get the engine start I just got it rebuild and whenever I do start the throttle go up high and when I take the Rev off it shout down the engine I pull the front cover off an find that the small spring at the to was not in place can u please tell me where exact to put the spring thank you

    hi steven i put a cat perkins 4 cylinder diesel in my w4 loader and it only runs at high rpm i was told its because its a generator ingine ive moved the metering rod to all positions and it eather kills it or run high

    Hello I'm wondering if you can help me. I have a perkins 700 series and I need to rebuild the engine. The problem I'm having is that I need 2 special tools to remove, install and set up the injection pump. Do you know where I can get them or someone who can rebuild this? Also do you have any tricks I can use to get away with not using the special tools?

    Watch the clip behind timing cover plate to block interface .
    It must be indexed to plate or cover will not crush gasket and leak oil

    Got a question.
    Got that same engine and has some fuel in the oil pan. I wanna rebuild the pump cause I guessing that the fuel is coming from the injection pump I was told that I need some special to retime the fuel pump. Is that true?

    I am about to tear into one of these motors that has fuel in the oil seems like only two potential culprits, injection pump seal/o-rings and or injector o-rings, any advice?

      You find anything out on that. Having the same issue. My engine cranks right over and starts...thinking that injection pump is leaking by.

    I have a perkins four cylinder diesel N844 out a generator and have installed it in a mustang skid steer, is there a way to turn up the throttle? I turned the side arm and it want let me have more throttle and I need a little more than what it is set at to run the generator! Do I need to pull the front cover and adjust the governor there to get more or is do I need to turn something on the pump to get more rpms on it to work this machine I changed it to ??? Thanks Dee

    Stephen, I have a 2013 LS XR4046 with the Shirbaura engine. I’ve had numerous problems with the DPF system. Luckily, my tractor still has mechanical throttle linkage on the side of the injection pump. This thing has been to the dealer several times and it’s the same crap. Thousands of dollars and it keeps going into limp mode due to the DPF. I decided I was tired of it. I have removed the fuel solenoid, but left in wired up, and capped the threaded hole at the back of the injection pump. I can control the rpm manually for about 5 seconds with the mechanical throttle cable connection point but then nothing. It then starts acting like it’s in limp mode again. This is all with the fuel solenoid removed. Is there another component I’m unaware that the ECU is using to control the throttle? Essentially, I want to put the engine back to old school, and control the throttle manually. Any suggestions or guidance? Also, I’ve run it with the DPF sensor and temp sensors disconnected and connected, and with the ECU grounded and not grounded. Does not change symptoms. Thank you.

    Great video! I have the same engine. It was just rebuilt by a professional. I have 100hrs on it. But, it surges (or hunts) at idle. The tach goes back and forth from 1000 to 1100 rpms. Any guess where my problem is?

    got a c2.2 prefix G7L, similar governor. low power under load. good compression good fuel getting to injection pump, new pump. in time. i suspect something wrong in governor. checked all the things this video stated. everything looks good. I can make a video showing you all i have done. do youhave any ideas on it

    Is there different governor springs for these models? I have a Perkins badged one 404c22 and it’s a generator, it had a 2 pole alternator on it 3000rpm and I have fitted a 4 pole alternator 1500rpm and it has excessive speed droop under load

    Tenho uma case Sr 175, que sai fumaça preta de diesel mais não pega, já chequei cabeçote , juntas, válvulas, pistões e está tudo bom, mais não quer pegar de jeito nenhum. Acho que está com problema na injeção de combustível.
