It looks more like a bone spur. Overgrowth of bone after an injury in that area. I have something similar but less dramatic on my right eye socket after a bar fight back in the 1980's when I got hit with a pool cue by a bouncer. It's great for when you're comparing scars with your friends, like that scene in Jaws :D
Nice trophy to put in your workshop! Those antlers would make great knapping tools as they are still attached to the skull and have the bone attached at the base. Bone wears better than a shed antler.
Very enjoyable episode. What find! Have to wonder if it even had a left eye with that anomaly. Every time I find a shed in western PA the porcupines have got to it first and chewed away to their hearts content, but I'll bring them home and toss them in the garden for the squirrels and chipmunks to chew on.
Hmmm , perhaps what killed the deer , eventually , just a guess aia know the guy from P.A. mentioned them but , do you ever see porcupines here aia never saw any but i found 3 quills in my cats face back in 1999... tough to get out rear facing scales on em but i never saw ant Mike
Browsing online, there are more extreme examples of this type of anomalous antler growth. It certainly doesn't look comfortable for the deer. I have never seen a porcupine here, but I'm told they're around. Ouch. Poor cat!
Well there was a pirate vibe for a while, now I think you are on to a Viking thing. Definitely, an unusual find, enjoyed the adventure!

Absolutely! Interesting idea. That makes sense. Flint knapping isn't something I've delved into just yet.

It's for sure the most interesting rack/skull I've found. Yep small critters love to chew on them haha
Over growing is unusual for the deer 🦌
Makes a nice bowsprit.
The funny growths are probably due to damage from fights or while younger.

Isn't there a nuclear power station around there.
