- How to open a door that's locked and cant be opened with the handle or knob. I will show you an easy way to remove the door lock and open it manually as this is a cheap option to open the door rather than kicking the door down. This way the only thing you will need to replace is the door lock which is about 10 dollars. Dont make the mistake of kicking the door down as this is very expensive to fix . By drilling into the back of the door lock we can access the back of the screws and threads, once this is done we then drill out the rivets holding the threads and remove the outer handles. Or you could weight it up if a trip to hardware store for the supply costs more than a emergency call out from a Locksmith or not?

You save my money to call for locksmith. I had been using credit card to unlock. Trying many different size of plastic still couldn't. I would recommend looking at the other doors in the house to see location of bolts mine were on the top and bottom. Also there's a little hole in the handle to help remove the handle then that plate is removable and you can easily see where the bolts are.this video helped tremendously. Thanks!

This worked wonderfully! Saved me a call to the locksmith. Note: You might want to add more about how to work the latch to retract the bolt. It proved so tricky to me that I nearly gave up when victory was literally around the corner (it was not apparent to me that I needed to pull two prongs away from the bolt).

Thanks for this great video but for the last part where you used screw driver to pull the latch didn't work for me. It kept circling in place but latch stayed stuck inside. I ended up using the drill from side to front and finally used a plier to pull it off. Is there any easier technique?

My drill is on the other side of the door and mine's a passage set anyway and if the knob won't turn the latch now, getting the knob off won't matter because I won't be able to draw the latch with a screwdriver. If I could do that, the knob would draw the latch. But it's a great video for another time.

Okay but what if the latch wont fully retract when using the screwdriver and door is stuck with no way to shim it?
I was able to succeed but it took me at least 30 minutes and I had to switch from a regular drill to a hammer drill.
Somehow, this just creates two ugly holes on my door knob and no further progress:( not sure what I’m getting wrong.
2:50 my cam Latch fell apart. There's only the cylinder/latch assembly left, and door is closed. What should do? :(

So, in stuck inside my bathroom currently... I don't have a drill with me. Also if a child was stuck inside and I was outside, I don't think I'd be going to the time and noise stressing the infant finding a drill and drilling out the lock. If I was on the outside I'd be kicking it in. But I don't think I can kick it out!
I know from the inside I'd only need a screwdriver but (unusually) I didn't have one in the bathroom either. Also didn't have a hammer and nail to remove the hinge pins. But I found a bit of metal and from the inside I was able to jimmy it open.
Now I'm getting a screwdriver to remove it before the door closes again, before my kids visit again.
