    I have the Audified U73b, and i have been using it along side the FG-76 for a while, now i can just pull everything on the VMR. Great job to both your company's for giving the opportunity to those like me who could never afford the actual gear at this stage of my career to be able to compete in this industry and make the music i set my life out to make.
    GREAT WORK AGAIN SLATE, KEEP IT UP!!!

    AWESOME! I feel like my mixing improved a lot ever since I stoped messing with a bunch of different plug ins and started using slate for at least 90% of all my tracks. Now I just open VMR on every track and mix as if I was on an analog board. Everything I need is right there, makes mixing so much faster and helps me to focus on the creative aspect of mixing. Really great stuff! I never had so much fun mixing as I'm having now. Thanks for all these great products and for the creative workflow that they provide!

      It's just cos you changed your ways, you'd have found just the same had you gone back the other way.
      VMR actually sucks for mixing once you reach a 'pro' level because you need instant discreet access to bespoke plugs for bypassing, copy/pasting (only what you need), comparing, A/Bing etc. and esp for using pro surfaces like Avid S6/Icon etc which can't address VMR properly at all. It's a workflow killer and is frankly only good for somewhat 'noob ish' mixers to use heavily. It's ok here and there esp if you stick to just 1 or 2 plugs in the VMR, say a pre-amp and comp, because you can just say 'that's my comp with some pre amp built in' but anything more than that is going down a dead end.
      It gave you good results because the slate plugs sound great and are very well built/laid out and look good. They would be 10x better outside of the rack for sure.
      Oh and FTR it feels NOTHING like mixing on a real analog board, ironically it's that very thing (using a great pro control surface like S6 etc in Pro Tools) that is held back by RACKs within a DAW (same applies to the new waves omni rack! same mistakes over and over and over in the name of marketing, hype and noob appeal). Again, the plugs themselves are some of the best in the world, but the rack system sucks. Especially in pro tools, and especially if you aren't using a mouse and ACTUALLY mixing like you're on analog with a real full size 24+ fader control surface from avid! (they have trouble addressing plugs within plugs clearly and you lose context and flow of a mix too easily). So many drawbacks for so few gains, but so many people buy into the hype simply cos they got stuck in a rut mix wise, used that and thought it made everything better but it didn't, you just got a bit better yourself and the plugs sounded good, but out of the rack they would sound just as good AND you can properly mix/match with other even better sounding plugs not just slates all in one.

      The way you chose to say the things that you did make it clear that you are not worthy of calling yourself a professional. I am not saying you are bad at mixing by any means whatsoever. The thing that makes you seem unprofessional is the way you go about communicating with others. Saying that the VMR sucks for mixing when you reach "pro" level is not a valid statement because it is not up to you to decide what qualifies a "pro" mixer. Also just because the workflow does not work well for you and the equipment you use does not mean that it will not work well for someone else. And if you want better workflow my recommendation would be to try using Studio One 3 by PreSonus. It offers unbeatable workflow and does not cost an arm and a leg.

    Hey Steven, you know what would be really cool for VMR? An intelligent gain staging unit as the first insert. You set the desired target level (like -18db) then then it'll automatically set the gain to reach that level. Save messing around with gain or trim knobs when setting the faders to unity. Also, by having this it means the signal will be hitting the plugins are the right level so you can really hear whats going on as you work through different presets to get a starting point. Don't get why no one's done this already as a plugin or DAW feature...

    If, like me, you're obsessed with this song: The Promise (album/EP same name) by Beneath Between Beyond. It's on Deezer and Spotify, and probably everywhere else. What a song, what a mix and what a great addition to The Everything Bundle. Thanks as always, Steven!

    Many times a mix engineer will assume that if the snare doesn't punch through the mix it needs to be given more compression. That all depends on the frequencies that the snare hit gives out. Since this was a pre-sampled snare it already had compression on it. Adding more compression makes it sound thin and snappy. It might punch through the mix but it's not necessarily pleasing to the ear. The best way to remedy this is to augment the snare with a mid range snare sample, tune and mix down the two. This is not something a typical mix engineer would do but if he wants the best results possible he will offer this service.

    Slate makes revolution in audio engineering. I can't believe we have so much processing power for that cheap. And so many updates! Fantastic. Many years ago I was (in a way) a hater, when earliest versions of VCC and VBC came out. I was so wrong back then.

    • @the80386
      @the80386 6 років тому +1

      revolution? let's take it easy with the hyperbole, mate. it's just a compressor plugin among 200 others.

    • @MortonStudio
      @MortonStudio 6 років тому

      Lots of compressors (SSL, 1176, distressor) + eq + saturation + mastering solution+ reverb + delay + deesser, all for 15 bucks per month. It is revolution in a way, because right now these tools are used by top level pro's and teenage beginners, for 50 cents/day.

    • @alf3k1
      @alf3k1 6 років тому +1

      Honestly, that´s not a revolution (creating something new and unique would imply that), but a perfection in a copying what was there already 70 years ago. If you are looking for a revolution, you´d have to look at things like the MSpectralDynamics plugin, for example, now THAT is a revolution.

    • @jimpanse3920

  • @funkyboss007
    @funkyboss007 6 років тому

    Can’t wait to use it. Everything bundle is best value in music.

    • @quarkyzarky
      @quarkyzarky 6 років тому

      It's not value, you own ZERO. It's actually a marketing trick you daft git. And FTR virtual racks are terrible for mixing, you'll realise that when you hit the barrier as you progress in your mixing. Then you'll come screaming back to discrete plugs. Slate's plugs SOUND great, I use them, but the rack sucks for so many reasons it's beyond doubt now. The sub model is also a detriment to every serious mixer out there and is a quick cash grab for the flaky mix noobs who dip in and out and never really finish anything. BUY your plugs, then plugs get cheaper, rent them and prices GO UP to force you into subbing! Don't use racks they are harming the industry and teaching very bad habits to new mixers.

    Installed the U73b, and it knocked out my VMS Classic Tubes. Re-installed the VMS Classic Tubes and it then knocked out the U73b! Afraid to re-install it fearing it'll just knock out the VMS again. What's going on?? I'm sure there's a minor work-around I'm missing. And Steven, I absolutely love the Everything Bundle, one of the best investments I've ever made.

  • @PavelPmusic
    @PavelPmusic 6 років тому

    it's only fair if you limit the output to the same volume as how it sounds without the plug in because then you can focus on the sound change cause a lot of times it just sounds louder

    However - can you offer any tips within the context of mixing for a wide dynamic range? I've been paying attention to Ian Shepherd's guidance and attempting to change ingrained habits - dialling up all those gorgeous compressors isn't necessarily a good thing to do! ... any advice?

    Slate, I wish you would update the Gobler DL links before posting these videos. I uninstalled VMR via Gobler then downloaded and installed - it took ages and I ended up with what I had before and no U73b! I know I can download it from the site, but as many of my plugin installs are managed through desktop vendor apps, being able to update through Gobler would be so much more efficient!

    really liking the first song, where can I get it??

  • @Rocksite1
    @Rocksite1 6 років тому

    To really compare apples to apples, you might consider a video to shoot out this compressor with your others, and a small selection of well-regarded 3rd party plugins. Maybe that might be the job of another reviewer, but nearly ALL compressors sound good when in vs. out, since louder material generally sounds better.

    i found out that the U73b is now part of Slate's VMR and i was wondering if you will give us an ilok code to access it in the VMR. i own both the VMR and the U73b (no subscription) and would like access to the U73b inside of the VMR. i tried to install the new VMR update and it kicked back on the U73b activation needing an ilok code for it so apparently the ilok license for the U73b does not get seen by the VMR. are you guys going to remedy this or just let us all hang?

    This is soooo great. Luckily I already own this plugin but never can use it as it's a huge cpu hog. Knowing that Slate has implemented this into VMR, I just smiled big time because they always come through with easy on the cpu plugins!!!!! Now, someone please tell Audified that they have it in the VMR, cause I have it on my iLok 2 but it doesn't recognize that I do. Keeps asking me for my serial and every time I try to put my ilok serial in, it says "The code redemption limit has been reached. Please enter a different code. Argh, so annoying. I'm excited but, now I'm starting to get un-exciting.
    What can I do? Help.... Great job Slate!!!

    Is this a tutorial about Gain Staging? I'm so sorry, but you can not enjoy the flavour of a piece of software when the only difference between on/off is just that the sample sounds 1-2dBs louder. As professionals we will need to try to do not add confusion. It should be mandatory!

      As a professional it wouldn't be a problem to distinguish the effect of higher loudness and the changed fletcher mundson curve you percieve, opposed to the changed ADSR attributes that a compressor creates + the higher level of THD and balance between 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. order distortion characteristics...but what do I know, I am not a professional :D

I opened Gobbler , and it shows me VMR ALL Modules (with FG-Stress) - Windows 1.8.4.1, but there's no info about Audified.
